FAMILY DEMANDS THE TRUTH
San Francisco Chronicle ^

Posted on 09/26/2005 9:59:59 AM PDT by Perlstein

What's up with Pat Tillman? Yesterday's San Francisco Chronicle article includes the following: To: Coop The quotes above from the article are very selective. I'd like everyone's response to some other revelations in the article: •"He was an avid reader whose interests ranged from history books on World War II and Winston Churchill to works of leftist Noam Chomsky, a favorite author....Mary Tillman said a friend of Pat’s even arranged a private meeting with Chomsky, the antiwar author, to take place after his return from Afghanistan — a meeting prevented by his death. She said that although he supported the Afghan war, believing it justified by the Sept. 11 attacks, 'Pat was very critical of the whole Iraq war.'" •“I can see it like a movie screen,” Baer said. “We were outside of (a city in southern Iraq) watching as bombs were dropping on the town. We were at an old air base, me, Kevin and Pat, we weren’t in the fight right then. We were talking. And Pat said, ‘You know, this war is so f— illegal.’ And we all said, ‘Yeah.’ That’s who he was. He totally was against Bush.” •"Senior Chief Petty Officer Stephen White — a Navy SEAL who served with Pat and Kevin for four months in Iraq and was the only military member to speak at Tillman’s memorial — said Pat “wasn’t very fired up about being in Iraq” and instead wanted to go fight al Qaeda in Afghanistan."

"and instead wanted to go fight al Qaeda in Afghanistan."

I thought he did die fighting al Qaeda in Afghanistan. This story smells funny.

Attributing quotes of this nature to a dead person, especially considering the source of these "quotes" is at the least suspect and at the most a sleazy attempt to capitalize on a soldiers death by politicizing it.

This is something the left does frequently and without shame. Remember the Paul Wellstone funeral

It could be that the left arranged to have Tillman killed for antiwar propaganda benefit and they are creating a false perception about him to throw off any investigation.

Who cares what Pat Tillman's politics were? The fact of the matter is that this fine young man heard the call of duty and answered it. Period.

According to the Pat Tillman Foundation, he was in Iraq:

Pat and Kevin joined the U.S. Army in July of 2002, committing to a three-year term. They were assigned to the second battalion of the 75th Ranger Regiment in Fort Lewis, Washington. They served tours in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, and in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2004.

Please tell me your post was an attempt to be humorous. If it was, it failed miserably. If it wasn't, you win the Monday Tinfoil Hat award AND the Comment without Knowledge award, which is the first time both awards have been given out to one person on the basis of one post.

You wrote, "It could be that the left arranged to have Tillman killed for antiwar propaganda benefit and they are creating a false perception about him to throw off any investigation."

I detest the article, particularly where words are put in the mouth of a dead hero by questionable sources, but arguing that a sinister left-wing operative--part of a larger, superbly organized conspiracy--arranged to put himself in a combat zone in Afghanistan in order to bump off a nominally known sports figure in a contrived friendly fire incident beggars the imagination.

If you're not joking, I make custom tinfoil hats for 'special' customers at a very special price. Interested?

I understood that Kevin Tillman's enlistment ended in July. His comments and/or actions would be VERY interesting to learn.
