Republicans Ready for a Fight It has no been almost one year since the Republican Party received a huge mandate in the 2004 elections. The results: NOTHING. Not entirely nothing as some issues have progressed, but in moral and social issues we have gotten nowhere. By now you are probably either asking your self why or answering that question in you head. For those of you that might be a little bit behind, or are just preoccupied, here is the answer: Republicans in Congress and the White House are playing political games. With the exception of nominating Judge Roberts, President Bush is not pushing the issues we want to fight for: social security, school vouchers, Medicare and Medicaid cuts, less business restriction and tax reform. And neither are the Republicans in Congress, they are carefully stepping through the mine field not wanting to start a war. Well it’s time for that to end. We have been sitting hear for almost a year waiting and waiting. Our guns poised to fire and ready to fire, but no command has come down. No leader has taken charge and President Bush seems to be overly busy with other work. The Republican Party has fight in it, it just needs to be put to use, someone needs to light the fuse, and we need to stop wasting the precious months and years. Let’s Roll.
problem is we're not even moving in small steps.
The only steps we are taking is rather big steps in the wrong direction.
I know very well that the only way we're going to get back a constitutional government is by the same way it was taken from us- step by step.
But the two most important things to get there is A) Don't give up any more ground and B) actually work in that direction.
So far, I really haven't seen the republicans in power do anything like that. In fact, what they've seem to become adept at is spending like liberals and caving whenever the press turns up the heat.
I don't know how you imbue people with courage, but judging from Chris Shays' performance today, there are quite a few who are a lost cause. And spending in some areas HAS been cut; it's just that the total budget has gone up, and some of that simply has to happen because of the increase in population.
There are other conservative issues besides spending, you know. Personal responsibility is one of them. I thnk the President has made great strides in making people accountable for their behavior. There is more to do, of course, but to say we have had no victories is untrue and a pessimistic way of looking at things.
If you believe NOTHING has happened for our side, just shut up now. Right now."

And what has it gotten us? It's like he and no republicans have ever learned that you can't buy the adoration of liberals or the press by selling out. They'll demonize you no matter what you do - so you might as well fight for your agenda and be demonized, instead of fighting for the other side and be demonized.
I am absolutely sick of people making such foolish assumptions as thinking that President Bush is trying to buy the affection of the liberals. Do you think he just fell off the turnip truck?
He has plans that go far beyond what will appear on TV next week or next month. The GOAL is making a nation of people who are responsible for themselves, and when that happens, we will not have people thinking they need big government!

Your last statement says it all. RINOS and "compassionate conservatism" are killing the Republican Party.
What you hadn't said though is the GOP has appreciably compromised on principle in lieu of power at the expense of refusing to uphold American sovereignty, slacking on promoting conservatism tenets, infusing socialism, and caving in to globalist politics and policies.
With their so-called "domination of both houses AND the Presidency," they ought to have been shot-gunning their traditional agendae, but by now we know they're not AND won't.
The GOP has "won" alright, and it's called a "Pyrrhic victory."
I'd say the size of that entourage you described will be determined in 06 and 08.

I'm not worried. Not being conservative enough will never translate to a liberal vote.
No it won't. But it will cause others to look for an alternate solution, to break away from the two party grip. This is becoming all too clear.
We may be "winning" elections, but sliding into centrist ideology which dilutes the conservative principle the GOP is supposed to represent and manifest.
As to those SCOTUS vacancies, NO ONE seems to have a clue how it'll turn out.
Since the majority GOP House and Prez are so frightned to go toe-to-toe to fight tooth and nail with the Dems for their guy, history dictates the'll inevitably cave and compromise on at least one of the two Justices to be considered.
