Was Massive Corruption the reason for holding off Federal assistance?
Vanity | 9/28 | Wil H

Posted on 09/28/2005 8:10:14 AM PDT by Wil H

There has been much made over the indecisiveness of Lousiana State and New Orleans Municipal governments in the run up to Hurricane Katrina, especially the resistance of the Governor to allow Federal assistance into the state to help with relief and recovery efforts.

Now it is discovered by the FBI that many of the police on the city payroll didn't "not show up for work" but in fact they didn't exist at all! One policeman has commited "suicide" and the Police Chief has already resigned.

How far up the administration did this scandal reach? One person couldn't have been pocketing 450 salaries of non existant police officers, a scheme like this requires widespread collusion.

We also know they couldn't find bus drivers to evacuate the poor, how many of those were ficticious employees? Were people trapped in New Orleans because someone has been ripping off the taxpayers by paying non-existant bus drivers too?

Maybe Blanco and Nagin must have known that they couldn't allow Federal command and control in BEFORE the storm as they would want to direct the deployment of assets that were on the books but didn't exist. Far better to stall until after the disaster when the discrepancies could be covered up by the "fog of chaos".

Did this massive scheme result in many unnecessary deaths caused by a corrupt heirachy that has been short changing the population and failing to provide the services they paid for for years?

Someone needs to shine a bright light on the Municipal finances in New Orleans.

Here's what I heard.

Hours before New Orleans Police Superintendent Eddie Compass announced his resignation, Tony Snow relayed some hot information he had heard from his Capitol Hill sources. It turns out that the FBI has launched an investigation.

Remember after hurricane Katrina, it became obvious at a large number of the police force had deserted? The estimates were 500 to 700 members of New Orleans finest that failed to show up for duty.

Well the New Orleans police department say it have identified 249 officers who left their posts without permission. These are officers who originally were excused by New Orleans Police Superintendent Eddie Compass, were just going back to help their families.

It turns out that the FBI has launched an investigation to get the list of name of the officers that disappeared, who didn’t show up. Turns out more than 500 names already investigated. The number of five hundred is much higher than the 249 as Eddie Compass suggested. It is more like five or 7 hundred.

Out of the ones have identified, 84 percent, 420 out of 500 already been identified. Guess what? They do not exist. They are phantom employees.

They were ripping off the people of New Orleans. They had fake cops and the money was going to pals of Eddie Compass and or the political establishment. Out of an estimated 1700 believed to be employees, it turns out that number is closer to one 1000.

This probably has something to do with the 2 suicides of police officers.

These officers where reportedly close personal friends of the now-ex Superintendent of Police (Chief of Police) Compass, right?

Story not sufficiently important to be covered by the MSM.

I would say this was exactly the reason. Then, after there was enough time and anger built up, they figured they would bring in the Fed. Now, people are good and angry, blaming the Fed, and they won't believe or care, if the Fed uncovers this recent corruption info.

Did not work however....

Corrupt criminals do not off themselves. They run with the money. Perhaps they had a "little help" with their suicide.

I want to see the mayor before Congress testifying under oath.

Makes a lot of sense now.

The MSM media was on a jihad against the federal government being feed lots of bogus information about the choas happening in the superdome and city. And this was all so some very corrupt things could attempt to be hidden.

I hope they blow the whole top off this story. The mayor of New Orleans would have to be aware of the 500 fake police employees. How could that go un-noticed day in and day out.
Where is Nagin right now? All I've heard is that he's been hiding out in Texas somewhere.
This could be the tip of the iceberg. Think about how many fireman, public, and government workers could be fake as well. No wonder the evacuations were fubar. Nobody was there to cordinate anything.

Follow the money.

While everyone is down on former FEMA head Brown, I think the hearings should not go too quickly. He may be proven right in ways that we can only surmise at this time. Are they in such a hurry to start the hearings before the investigations are complete? I suspect that they want to finish and conclude that FEMA was the problem before the investigations are truly complete.

Thanks for your comment. Lots of nonsense and untruths have poured out of the New Orleans story. I have not seen one documented news story on the fake-police issue. Not one.

Paranoia here, but this could be a planted story by our enemies, the Democrat party. If not, this is the story of the year. We must crush the corrupt Dems with all our might - they are truly enemies of the Republic.

"Remember also Nagin's bizarre comment about needing to send the police on vacation to Vegas?"

That would certainly help conceal the number of actual, live human beings on the police payroll ... as opposed to fictional ones, who'll manage (oops!) to all be on R&R in Vegas, whenever any inquiries are made.

Speaking on behalf of good, law abiding, union-belonging phantoms everywhere, I think you're picking on the wrong entities. I suggest someone look up Ann Rice...ask her what Lestat and the Mayfair witches are doing these days. Hint: If their names show up on a roster somewhere....just don't shine the sun on them!

Then I'm sure there is a logical explanation of why two policemen commited suicide and the Chief of Police resigned, especially after it was revealed that the crime and lawlessness during the disaster was far less than the media claimed.

Think about how many fireman, public, and government workers could be fake as well.

Would all of these types of people be likely to be union members? Do the cops have their own union? Would some of the others perhaps belong to The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees? Perhaps poking around in union records might be revealing.

Did the original money used to hire these fake cops come from the Clinton Administration's plan to put 100,000 new cops on the street?

How many fake cops are there in other Democratic party controlled cities?

What happened to the money paid for saleries, training, and equipment for these fake cops?

How much of it was kicked back to the DemocRATic Party?

Time for a Congressional investigation....

Probably at least some of it was federal funds. That is likely why the Feds are poking their noses into this so quickly.

Take into consideration this situation.

You claim to have 1700 cops on the payroll. Of course, 25 percent are upper management, admin or support personnel...so they don't really count. So as the chief, you have 1300-odd cops then. You can subtract 10 percent of this number as being cops on LV, injured, or under investigation...so you as the chief are down to 1150 cops to spread through a 3-shift period and seven days a week. For a town like New Orleans, that is sufficent.

But lets say that you really only have 1000 "REAL" cops, and you count out the 25 percent for management, admin and support. You really then have 750 to play with....and then you count out the 10 percent for injury or investigation. So you now only have 675 cop's to manage over a 3-shift period and seven days. And then, you calculate that 20 percent of the 675 cop's are corrupt and actually working against the system. So you only have 540 cop's then. Thats a big difference from 1150 that the top scenario posed. You start to think about all the crime that went on during the hurricane....these were people with no fear of the law....because they never really saw law in NO in the first place. The city allowed these people to become rough and dangerous...and never corrected the situation.

Obviously, you need to bring in a out-of-state team....to comb the entire force....and probably fire over 300 cops by the time you come to the end. There will need to be a massive rehiring situation by December...of at least 500 new cops for New Orleans. I'd hire some of the US Army and Marine Corp's finest who are leaving the service...and let them deal out justice to the town. To allow corruption to destroy the soul of a city like this...was wrong...and to let them continue to act this way...is just as wrong.

The problem also extends to other areas in New Orleans. It's well known that the miserable hellhole public school system paid millions to people who died years ago, and who don't even exist. The system is bankrupt, financially and morally.

I agree that this seems a bit much, and it may be a planted story to make us look like tinfoil loonies. Then again how many reporters would be aware of the "official" size of the PD that gets reported to Washington for grant purposes

If it IS true, though, then it's the end of the LA Dem party. Using fraud to obtain federal money will put you away for a long time, and the fraud would have to involve lots of people, high and low
