Please explain this away Nancy.

The original article in no longer on the Houston Chronicle web page but here is a post from back in May. Prosecutor in probe of DeLay PAC raises funds for other side Houston Chronicle ^ | May 18, 2005 | MICHAEL HEDGES Posted on 05/19/2005 1:47:29 AM CDT by YCTHouston Prosecutor in probe of DeLay PAC raises funds for other side Earle's speech on political corruption keys on the GOP leader, whom he likens to a bully By MICHAEL HEDGES Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle Washington Bureau Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, who denies partisan motives for his investigation of a political group founded by Republican leader Tom DeLay, was the featured speaker last week at a Democratic fund-raiser where he spoke directly about the congressman. A newly formed Democratic political action committee, Texas Values in Action Coalition, hosted the May 12 event in Dallas to raise campaign money to take control of the state Legislature from the GOP, organizers said. Earle, an elected Democrat, helped generate $102,000 for the organization. In his remarks, Earle likened DeLay to a bully and spoke about political corruption and the investigation involving DeLay, the House majority leader from Sugar Land, according to a transcript supplied by Earle. "This case is not just about Tom DeLay. If it isn't this Tom DeLay, it'll be another one, just like one bully replaces the one before," Earle said. "This is a structural problem involving the combination of money and power," he added. "Money brings power and power corrupts." The crowd of 80 to 100 Democratic activists responded by making donations that exceeded the event's fund-raising goal. Reasons for speaking Earle and his staff of prosecutors have obtained indictments of three DeLay associates on charges that their political committee, the DeLay-led Texans for a Republican Majority, broke state campaign finance laws with the use of corporate donations on its way to helping establish Republican control in the state House. Earle said Wednesday he knew the group that met in Dallas was raising money for Democrats, but that it was not his reason for speaking. "I'd make the same speech to any group, Republican or Democrat, as long as the group was interested in honest, open government," Earle said in a telephone interview. The prosecutor said he did not recall making other fund-raising speeches for anyone besides himself since he began investigating DeLay. "We are investigating anybody who has committed a crime," he said when asked if DeLay is a target of the probe. Political analysts said Earle's appearance left him open to questions about his motives. "It may help Tom DeLay establish his case that Ronnie Earle's investigation is a partisan witch hunt," said Richard Murray, a political scientist with the University of Houston. "It clearly fuels the perception that his investigation is politically motivated. It was probably not a wise move," said Larry Noble, a former Federal Election Commission lawyer who heads the watchdog group Center for Responsive Politics. "It is somewhat less serious because he is a (Democratic) elected official," Noble said. "Otherwise, it would be a serious problem." DeLay spokesman Dan Allen said Earle has wasted public money on an investigation that has amounted to a public relations campaign, "and now a fund-raising effort for Democrats by Mr. Earle." 'Pot-and-kettle' comparison Allen said DeLay has not been contacted by Earle or any government investigator about anything related to the investigation. Russell Langley, a co-founder of Texas Values in Action Coalition, said Earle was among those who inspired formation of the committee and that the prosecutor's participation in the campaign was proper. "Throughout his career he has represented honesty and integrity in government. ... As long as he was raising money legally, we didn't see any problem with it," Langley said. He added that he was not concerned about whether Earle's fund-raising appearance might compromise his stance as an independent investigator of potential crimes involving Republicans. "We weren't worried about that, considering Tom DeLay's partisanship," he said. "That would really be a pot-and-kettle comparison." Title of address In his speech, titled "Public Safety and the Tone of Corruption in Government," Earle recounted some of his investigations of alleged public corruption by Democratic and Republican officeholders. "He talked ... about improving ethics in government," said Marc Stanley, who hosted the party at his Dallas home. "There were a few questions about whether he was receiving pressure not to indict Tom DeLay. He answered that he lives out on a farm and he wasn't worried about pressure whatsoever." Former House Speaker Jim Wright, a Fort Worth Democrat who was forced to resign from Congress in 1989 after the House Ethics Committee began investigating whether he improperly profited from a book publishing deal, was among those who attended the event. He is scheduled to speak at the committee's next fund-raiser in June. DeLay has become a lightning rod for criticism by Democrats in Texas and elsewhere, especially because he led efforts to change the state's U.S. House district boundaries to the electoral advantage of Republicans. Questions about his overseas travels, connections to lobbyists and political fund raising have become a rallying point for Democrats looking ahead to elections in 2006. "I think Tom DeLay ought to go back to Houston where he can serve his jail sentence," Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, told Massachusetts Democrats on Saturday. Dallas lawyer Ed Ishmael, another co-founder of the Democratic committee to which Earle spoke, is described on the group's Web site as "a leader in the Howard Dean presidential campaign" of 2004.

The DNC has been after Delay for years...why?? Because he gets things done. They have tried and tried, and this will go nowhere. Delay is probably the most honest guy in the House...baring none. Frist is on their hatchet block also...and they will keep after him the same way. It is Get Their Leaders time at the DNC, and this will be the first try of many. They still are after President Bush, and he isn't running for anything. I don't anyone told the libs!!

Memorize that .. it's the latest talking point.

During the WH press conference today, the idiot from ABC (Moran ?) made almost the exact same statement.

These people are so transparent.

This is the "politics of personal destruction" in full action. The dems have no agenda for 2006 so they think they can win if they smear the repubs. It's not going to work.

I'm worried about the Drier appt though .. too many of the House dems like him .. not a good sign.

If one wanted to see a "culture of corruption," a good place to look would be in Baltimore, under the administrations of Tommy D'Alesandro, Jr., and Tommy, III, both of whom served as Mayor.

Measured by indictments, the younger one was more corrupt. He beat a rape charge as a young man. Then as Mayor he was part of an indictment of several officials for corruption, including a City Councilman, the legendary "Mimi" DiPietro.

The corruption charges were dismissed, when the chief witness "disappeared and could not be found." About a week after the charges were dropped, the witness surfaced in Las Vegas, staying at a casino with purported ties to the (shh) Mafia (shh).

Why do I mention all this from a generation ago, now? Why Nancy Pelosi grew up as Nancy D'Alesandro (and was vriefly my next-door neighbor). She grew up in a true "culture of corruption" since she was the daughter of one and the sister of another Mayor of Baltimore who ran the cash-and-carry D'Alesandro machine in that City.

And now you know the rest of the story.

OK. We own the Justice Department.

Time to start investigating and indicting what has been going on in Lousyanna for the past 60 years. Then we should start on Chicago, San Fagscisco, Filthydelphia, Beantown, Washington DC, Lost Angeles...

There are plenty of genuine targets out there, chock full of genuinely corrupt Democrat politicians.

Oh, and we should reopen a murder investigation on Chappaquiddick Island which was conveniently deep-sixed 35 years ago. "Time passed" didn't seem to bother investigators going after Southern racists murdering civil rights workers. How about a Senator murdering campaign workers?

While we're at it, we should reopen the stonewalled investigations of Waco, Ron Brown, OKC, Chinagate, Riady,... the list is practically endless. This indictment/prosecution stuff is a truly target-rich environment if we go after the other side!

We should turn this into a can of whoop@$$ the other side begs for us to close.

Thank you, thank you. I'm not a native of Maryland but some of the history makes my skin crawl and the machine here is still quite strong.

With all of the corruption in the RAT party Pelosi has one hell of a nerve. Pelosi seems to have missed the theft of our future MD Senator Steel's identity and credit report by Schumer's staff. Schumer I'm sure is totally innocent...my rear end.

Maybe we can start a thread of RAT corrupt politicians but it would have to be trimmed down to a month or less because of all that's coming out of Chicago and LA.

Hmmmm.....

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helped secure $3 million last year for a nonprofit organization, WestStart-CALSTART, whose president gave money to her political action committee. The organization also paid for the European trip of one of Pelosi’s policy advisers.

Pelosi helped donor to PAC

Last week, the Washington Post reported that DeLay had accepted a paid trip from the Korea-United States Exchange Council (KORUSEC) in 2001. KORUSEC describes itself as a "nonpartisan, not-for-profit group that provides insight on various interests." Just days before DeLay's trip KORUSEC had changed its financial status by registering as a foreign agent. Under the new registration members of Congress are not allowed to accept such trips.

Pelosi responded to the Post's story by repeatedly insisting DeLay's involvement warranted investigation by the House Ethics Committee. Meanwhile, the media coverage of KORUSEC continues to focus almost exclusively on DeLay and any possible investigation of his trip by the House Ethics Committee.

However, buried in the 20th paragraph of last Thursday's Post reporting was acknowledgement that a Nancy Pelosi staffer had taken a comparable trip with KORUSEC in 2003. What's more, Pelosi's office had failed to file the required financial documentation for the trip until the Washington Post came looking for it. Other Democrats took part in KORUSEC trips as well.

Delay Tactics

Campaign finance experts and watchdogs are questioning the legality of twin leadership PACs that have enabled Minority Whip Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to double up on hard-dollar contributions she has given and received this election cycle.

The experts suggest that the use of the two committees, PAC to the Future and Team Majority, amounts to a probable violation of laws intended to prevent lawmakers from multiplying their leadership political action committees in order to defy contribution limits. The treasurer for the two committees, former California Lt. Gov. Leo McCarthy (D), acknowledges that the PACs are identical in all but name.

A controversial fundraising committee run by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was slapped with a $21,000 fine by the Federal Election Commission for enabling Pelosi to funnel more than $100,000 in illegal contributions to Democratic candidates in late 2002 as she was vying to become Democratic leader.

She should take a look at all the RATS under indictment at the state level. Op TN Waltz netted 4 sitting lawmakers, 4 are RATS, and 1 former state Senator, all but 2 are black. 1 is a County Commissioner. 1 RINO was indicted, 2 were money/bag/minions to the RATS. In all 7 or 8 were indicted. More indictments are in the works from what we are told.
