Ronnie Earl's case against DeLay, reminds
me an awful lot of the recent case by the
California prosecuters case against
Micheal Jackson, only a lot weaker.

I'm not saying Micheal Jackson was
innocent, but that it became quite
clear long before the case was given
to the hury, that the cornerstone of the
Prosecuters case, was based on victim & witness testimony..of a family of known grifters...
and would be thrown out for the fact that
the DA could not prove beyond a resonable
doubt...

a conclusion i publicly stated long before
the "mother" ever testified.

I'll bet the same thing happens here, and
it could jst end up blowing back on Earl, for
malfeasance.

After doing some looking around myself, I found this post from RatherBiased.com about the same fundraiser :

Barnes, Rather Daughter Co-sponsored Fund-raiser.

Written by RatherBiased.com

September 12, 2004 | 10:22:08 EDT

Ben Barnes, the Democratic lobbyist and former lieutenant governor of Texas who was featured prominently in the 60 Minutes report that triggered the Memogate controversy, was the co-sponsor of a fund-raiser for a liberal district attorney in Texas along with Dan Rather's daughter Robin. According to the web site of Ronnie Earle, district attorney for Travis County, Texas, Ben Barnes and Robin Rather were among a the small group of sponsors for an October 3, 2000 fund-raising event for Earle's reelection campaign.

In 2001, Dan Rather was the keynote speaker at a Travis County Democratic Party event. He spoke there at the behest of his daughter.

I love this forum and am embarrassed by the attacks on Rather's daughter. Really guys, it is beneath you to attack her and ridicule her physical appearance.
Don't get me wrong, I hate Dan Rather and was sickened by his interview the other night. He is an imbecile.
But we should stick to criticizing people on their actions...not their looks.

I was reading in an earlier thread Dan's comments that no one has 'disproved' what the NG memos purport. Of course it is my contention that Dan Rather arranged the assassination of President Kennedy to boost his career. And unless it can be proved otherwise I think we all ought to hold it to be factual.

ditto - but here is criticism of Robin Rather that is appropriate: it's pretty certain she was mixed up in the bungled hit-job on Bush last fall. She had to know the lies behind what she was leading her dad into, but she let her blind hatred of Republicans and her lack of integrity overrule her responsibilty to her dad. The result was, daddy Dan Rather deep-sixed his career in the worst way imaginable. She is a horrible excuse for a daughter.

Okay. Robin Rather "looks" like a partisan political dirty trick operative for the Democrat Party. A James Car-vile with hair. A Dan Rather with an double X chromosome. A Craig Livingston minus the giant cigarette costume. A Mapes 60 Minutes secret source, complete with Kinko's fax number. That's what she "looks" like to me.

I agree... Just because she looks like the practice dummy for the prototype of the ugly stick, doesn't mean it's a reason to attack her. Especially, since the fact that she supports a POS like Rancid Ronnie, her looks is one of her redeeming qualities.

I wonder how many times Dunga Dan reported on the Bush girls getting caught doing something underage kids are not suppose to be doing.

Funny I never even knew he had a daughter - I wonder if she ever smoked any pot - got caught drunk - ordering drinks while under age - speeding the traffic kind or the other kind.

I never saw her ugly mug on the 6 O'clock news.

I guess Republican's kids are only fair game.

Woah there! I know Robin Rather. I worked down the hall from her when I did contract work for a graphic design business in Austin.

She runs an organization that's trying to get the communities around Austin (Kyle/Buda, Georgetown, etc...) to develop comprehensive development plans for their future so they don't lose their outlying large properties to the sort of expansive suburban development that's taking over hill country.

Say what you want about Dan Rather, but to my knowledge, his daughter is very focused on what she does and has never used his name to do anything, from what I remember.

This Earle guy is slick operator just like his buddy Clinton.

From Houston Chronicle - 1992

Republicans asked Earle to investigate ethics charges against Land Commissioner Garry Mauro's flagrant abuse of campaign financing for Clinton.

"reports in the Houston Chronicle that Mauro (Dems operative) used state telephones and employees to help run Democrat Bill Clinton's presidential campaign.

This is the same Ronnie Earle who not too long ago loudly
preached for strong governmental ethics in his well-publicized investigation of House Speaker Gib Lewis (Republican) for alleged improper ties with special interest lobbyists.

Shortly after the 1990 election...Earle took
Lewis' case to a grand jury and, 12 days before the 1991
Legislature convened, won some misdemeanor indictments alleging that Lewis had received an illegal gift in the form of a $ 5,000 tax payment made on his behalf by a San Antonio law firm. Earle admitted the indictments were timed to give House members second thoughts about re-electing Lewis to a fifth term as presiding officer.

But Lewis overwhelmingly won re-election and, in a plea
bargain a year later, succeeded in getting the indictments
dismissed in return for a slap on the wrist for some unrelated, minor financial reporting violations.
