Should be interesting. Every time I get fed up with O'Reilly he turns in a performance like tonight. He gave the ACLU, the lefty judge and the useless Pentagon heck! I loved it and look forward to the segment on the NO police.

There is a story that almost HALF of the NOPD existed only on paper. Wonder who was cashing their paychecks?

Looks like they will discuss dissention between the mayor and the chief. This could be interesting as the corrupt powers that be turn on each other. It is obvious Nagin and Blanco are at odds, but nothing has been said publicly.

I posted this story on my blog last night but this morn the link was dead and no reference to it on google whatsoever....strabge

Corruption Charges Beginning To Surface In New Orleans Police Department

I have been referring cryptically to the so- called NOLA "phantom cops" recently. Well it appears to be a great deal more solid than mere blog scuttlebutt. That bizarro Compass presser is beginning to make a bit more sense now.

New Orleans, Louisiana (AHN) - Fox News reports an investigation is underway by the FBI as agents look into massive corruption on the state and local levels in the New Orleans Police Department.

Police Chief Eddie Compass suddenly resigned on Tuesday asking media interests to respect his right to privacy, but it appears that the former New Orleans cop has a lot of explaining to do.

"It's pretty much always been known, but never openly acknowledged, that NOPD's actual numbers were far below the "official" figure of 1500 - 1700," says the Fox News source.
The number of officers that actually are employed by the department are around 900 to 1,000.

The question now remains...where was all of that salary money going to?

The FBI began investigating the New Orleans police who had abandoned their post during Katrina and of the more than 500 screened so far, 84-percent don't exist.

The investigation is widening on Wednesday to include New Orleans Police Foundation and Elodia Blanco for hiring practices as well.

sorry....very disappointing. Douglas Brinkley (not the Presidential historian) a local NO reporter simply stating Nagin scapegoating Compass. rehashed a lot of history about federal takeover of police dept. years ago, but no mention of ghost employees. O'Reilly did not mention Tony Snow's work.

Whenever I see Nagin I see fear in his eyes. I think he is afraid the Feds are going to find out just how corrupt his city was, and a lot of it will lead straight back to the Mayor's office.

OR has got some guy on there (the guy who wrote kerry's bio) and he is reaming Nagin a new one. He won't a federal investigation of Nagin NOW. He doesn't want any money to go to him. Says that Nagin wants to be the quarterback of rebuilding NO with all that federal money. He says the feds need to pull the quarterback before any rebuilding. Says the police dept. is in shambles and someone (historian) needs to go back and find out exactly what happened before Katrina hit. Why wasn't Nagin holding press conferences? Or why wasn't he evacuating people, where was the food and water at the astrodome? Where were the police? He was ticked off and wants a federal investigation.

INteresting......I thought he was pretty much a dem. First time I heard a dem call for an investigation for Nagin. ummmmmmm

I'm not surprised. If you check BOR out very closely most of his topics are "after the fact", it's rare he actually has anything "new" or innovative. He is the worst copycat there is on the air.

True, and he takes credit for everything. Still claims he could have gotten Gore to win in 2000.
And that "lookin out for you" BS is sickening. The last thing I need is O'Reilly lookin' out for me. Plus he is a pervert.

Actually .. for as incompetent as Nagin was on this entire hurricane business, he had been working to clean out the city government ... exposed a good bit of corruption, including particularly at the school board. The corruption DOES go back to the mayor's office .. except, in this case, it was the Mayors Morial and Landrieu. Nagin himself actually isn't so corrupt as incompetent.

"where was all of that salary money going to?"

Don't forget the costs of benefits (medical, taxes, Social Security, etc.) and of outfitting those "Phantom Cops" (uniforms, weapons, belts, vehicles, etc.). A million here and a million there will soon add up to real money.

It's not just the paychecks -- how about all their benefits, from pension to health care, etc.?

This is just scratching the surface in the corruption of LA.

The New Orleans D.A.'s office also laid off a very high percentage of "non-essential" employees! LOL

Did these employees really exist -- only time will tell if there really is an investigation into this.

Harry Connick Jr.'s father was the D.A. in New Orleans for 32 years. Very big supporter of Mary Landreiu -- helped with the buses in 1996 elections.

Well---he may be in your opinion...he certainly doesn't seem to favor any one group...or party. And I WANT him to favor Conservatives...lol! He just doesn't seem to care about my wishes, how dare he be his own person?

That said........I was jumping up and down and SHOUTING with complete agreement during his opening segment...he was on FIRE! And his HATRED of the ACLU is shared by me...100% and then some.

He LEVELED that screwball liberal judge for ordering the release of more abu garibe prison pics of the USA soldiers who taunted the muslims...BOR was FURIOUS...I thought he was going to lose it and I would not have cared if he did...he is RIGHT...releasing more of those photos will incite more terrorism and further endanger our troops....the people who did the wrong, the soldiers who did the crappy taunting are ALREADY being sentenced or in jail.

There IS NOT PURPOSE in releasing more photos.........HELL...this would have NEVER been done during WWII and BOR pointed that out to the man he had on to debate the issue...some liberal idiot.
