Shane Osborn Runs For Nebraska State Treasurer (EP-3E Pilot of Chinese F-8 Midair fame)
Campaign Web Sight ^ | 9/29/2005 | Shane Osborn

Posted on 09/30/2005 1:50:54 AM PDT by quietolong

Dear fellow Nebraskans; I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Treasurer of the Great State of Nebraska.

I am running because I am a concerned citizen who, like you, is interested in a responsible, efficient state government. I am running because America is the greatest democracy in the world and I believe in giving voters a choice of candidates. I am running because I have the background and experiences to be a great Treasurer.

I was Just reading his book:
Born To Fly.

And was checking the web out on what’s he been doing lately and came across this.

You Corn Huskers could do a lot worst.

Before you start to put him down. Read his book.

Yes he is a hero.

He saved his crew, Stared down the Chinese, And brought back his crew in good shape. The most important and valuable equipment on the plane.

We got the aircraft back. So the Chinese got a peek at some 20-30 year old technology.
We let China make much more sophisticated parts and circuits. Some residing in the apparatus you are using to view this.

Anything of value was, Erased, smashed, crushed, placed in heavy boxes and destroyed. Before being thrown out the hatch when they were still miles away from were they landed.

I was in the P-3 Navy for 10 years. And got to stand in the “tube” on a EP-3
There was nothing left on the plane that 24 people needed to pay the ultimate sacrifice for!

Sounds like they'll be an outstanding public servant. The "Anti-Blanco" or "Anti-Naigin" if you will.

And please forgive me, but this is the first thread I've read this morning. When I first clicked I thought I read "Sharon Osborne" and I thought: "Who let her out of rehab?".

Enough. BUMP!

That's not the way I remember it. Not to say that that isn't the way it was, but that is not the way I remember it.

If you are getting your information from Shane Osborn's book and campaign, you may want to beware the possibility that he is putting out a very self-serving version of events.

In any case, there are a few million Nebraskans who I don't have such uncertainties about, so I would be more inclined to vote for one of them!

Is he running as a Donk, a 'Pubbie, or is the Treasurer's seat non-partisan in Nebraska?

Looks like he is seeking the Republican nomination for Treasurer.

One of my pet peeves is Republicans who refuse to identify themselves as Republicans on their campaign literature. I can understand hiding the fact that you are a Democrat, if you happen to be a Democrat, but Republicans should be willing to support the party.

YOUR ARE WRONG!!!

He is not a "hero".

The men who died on Papa Romeo 26 are HEROs.

This guy wimped out big time.

His first order of business was to DITCH THE DAMN PLANE AT SEA.

Failing that, his second order of business was to make sure it self ignited on the tarmac.

This bozo handed the Chinese one of our most super secret airplanes in PRISTINE condition.

He was worried that the females on his crew would be mistreated if he did what he was suppose to do.

Papa Romeo 32 had incendiary devices on board. They were put there wayyyy back when. I know.

This sub standard puke makes me sick.

Leadership???? Not hardly...Anyone in the business will tell you that your aircraft NEVER falls into enemy hands. Never...

In the past many men died following that creed, this man gets a medal for "saving" himself and crew????

You're alive to brag about being such a bigtime he-man. That says you've never faced the situation that he faced--or that you did, and you're a self-sickening "sub standard puke."

Why are you attacking me? Run out of facts?

This puke is the subject of discussion, not me or who I am or what I've done.

Your idiotic attack on me is childish and ignorant.

But I guess I just have to consider the source.

"If you were never in that "business" you know not what you are talking about."

So, how many times did you destroy your aircraft to keep it out of enemy hands?

I thought so.

"This puke is the subject of discussion, not me or who I am or what I've done."

I'm saying that you have the luxury of making your judgement without ever having to have faced that concern--or that you did, and you failed to meet your own standard (since you are here and able to kvetch about it).

"BTW, where did I "brag"?"

When you trashed Osborn, you stated that you would have performed to a higher standard, despite never having done so.

"How do you know what I've "faced" and not "faced"?"

You're still alive; that tells me that you didn't face this decision.

Shows how very little you really know about the business.

A P-3 ditching at sea is a lot safer than landing on enemy territory.

You know nothing. I'll ignore you from here.

I had friends that were caught over Vladivostok, they managed to get their acft out of over water. No one survived. The Air Force gave a public statement that they had been "lost" while on a routine training mission. There were no medals for 40 years when the government finally admitted they were in Russian territory.

They were men, they did as their training told them to do.

Personal abuse will get you nowhere on this one. It is indicative of your own character.

Pappa Romeo 26 officially got "hit by lightning" for about 10 years till the North Koreans advertised and boasted about shooting it to pieces over the Sea of Japan.

I was a guest at NSA in Fort Meade a few years ago when Clinton authorized the military to acknowledge what one such crew had done.

For 40 years the families of those men knew nothing about their loved ones deaths. The pilot of the P3 dishonored the men before him that did what had to be done.

One final note, you notice he decided not to make the Navy a career??? I suspect he was helped in making that decision.

I've re-read my post many times now, I still can't find where I "stated that I would have performed to a higher standard". Not only are we ignorant, we can't read either.

Good point.

I remember when Clinton did that. Its one of the few things he did right.

If the truth be known, we've lost quite a few crews to lightning, bad weather, mechanical failures, etc. etc.

Funny how only pri 1 squadrons run into those problems.

As I said, I was at NSA the day those men were finally honored. There was not an empty seat in the place nor a dry eye.

Sadly, several of the men had no families there to see them finally honored. Some of the younger military and NSA staff had no idea of what those men had done, paid the full price and then forgotten with the stroke of a pen.

That is the nature of the business.

Bush made me sick when he gave medals to those people. Damned cowards.

Al, me boy...did you happen to notice that big mushroom-shaped thingie on the underside of the airplane, a good distance from the center of gravity? A P-3 is safe to ditch, but an EP-3E will cartwheel.

Wow. I am so impressed. You knew someone who did it.

However, you didn't do it yourself. And until you have, your argument cuts no ice with me. One cannot say how one will or won't do their duty until the moment of supreme test arrives.

Generally, the ones who most loudly castigated others for being cowards were the ones most loudly crying for their mamas during incoming.

Pale...You obviously have never been involved in such operations. That shows.

With that in mind, I might suggest you read up a tad on such operations as have been carried out in the past. If you really want to express opinions read them and then get back to us.

I will send you some good urls on such for your edification.

Why be personal? You have no idea of what I or anyone else has done. The question here is that cowards surrendered their acft and dishonored others from the past.

Is that so difficult to understand?

"Why be personal? You have no idea of what I or anyone else has done. The question here is that cowards surrendered their acft and dishonored others from the past."

No one can dishonor another person; one can only dishonor himself or herself. If the dead are dishonored, it was through their own dishonorable actions.

The situation with China today is not the situation with the USSR of the 1950s; we are not facing the potential of an imminent war for national survival against China.

"Is that so difficult to understand?"

Yeah, it's kind of hard for me to understand why so many armchair commandos masturbate to the idea of Americans committing honorable suicide for the National Security Agency.

No P-3 is safe to ditch in. ( 9 was our sister squadron)

"We are Ditching! Ditching! Ditching!"
http://www.vpnavy.org/vp9586.html

Notice All those big mouths can never say what was worth killing 24 men & woman for.

After I left active. I worked in defense electronics. It’s not hardware that makes thing happen these days. It’s software. Pull the hard drive or any other boot devices out of your computer and see how well it works.
How many parts in it. Were made in a fab in China.

Anyone who has been around P-3s would never say a P-3 safe to ditch in. Even with an intact airframe.

They must be dem a rats.
