Yeah I see how well it is run every night, when I forget to turn the news channel.

BTW why would a tax payer want to live in that city, especially when you go outside the 294 beltway, prices drop 10 percent?

Odd.

No comments on the stupidity of the design? Converting to 6 E-W parallel runways.

Chicago is the windy city. Think back to all those clips of 747's crabbing at Kai Tek . . .

BTW you might want to check on how to use "to" and "too" since you obviously don't know.

As an elder, wouldn't this sort of "observation" be better left unsaid?

I'm afraid of those escalators...I'd hate to bet trapped in a power outage.

I must have missed something in the article, where did it state that the 6 parallel runways would be east-west?

What we definately don't need is an airport in Peotone.

Its 50 miles south of Chicago, and an absurd place to have another airport.

Expanding O'Hare is much better idea.

Say what you will about Daley, but he has done wonders for the city of Chicago.

Jesse Jackson Jr is probably next in line, so I'd stick with Daley as long as I can.

Never fear they will make out financially. Federally financed projects are under laws which make sure that they will. Even renters will be well compensated.

Because many neighborhoods in the City are wonderful places to live with far more options than the burbs. I have my choice of inexpensive restaurants, great stores, culture of the highest order, the Bears, the other sports teams. And I don't have to drive for hours to find something worth doing.

Of course the financial aspects are such that anyone willing to work can come here and make a good life for themselves. Opportunities abound. I know well the life of a small town and the limited opportunities for advancement and learning within them.

Cities have always defined civilizations and the American is no different. They are the producers of culture and the economic engines which power countries. In fact, the word "civilization" is derived from urban life.

The green lines are new runways and the brown lines are runways to be eliminated? Why eliminate runways? Or is that just Daley's "thing" as evidenced by Meigs?

Thank you for posting that. I looked for a diagram showing runway alignments at the O'Hare web site and could not find one.

Blue=Existing
Green=New
Gold=Removial
(This diag. does not even show 36 which is already closed)

That is my problem with his plan. In my view, there should be 3 runways in each of the 4 main directions.
36/18 - 4/22 - 9/27 - 13/31
Use L and R for landing, and C for takeoffs. This would minimize crabbing on finals with the large aircraft. Also would handle the numbers of aircraft going in and out of O'Hare. In chicago, the winds are not always east to west, or west to east. We get a lot of strong winds out of the North.

Food is the first requirement an advanced society secures. The first cities had walls that included their agricultural fields.

Cities are instrumental in the development of ideas and ideas control societies. Ideas are generated by the contact of minds and where thousands or millions are interacting the generation of ideas is speeded up. It is the ideas of science which have allowed agriculture to develop beyond poking a hole in the ground at a pre-selected date and praying to the gods.

Without the money and power of the cities agriculture dries up to basically a subsistence economy which would mean stagnation in every area. That was basically what the Dark Ages was. A reversion (because of the death of Rome and the network of cities associated with it) to local economy and cultural darkness. Only when the cities were reborn in Italy and gradually the rest of Europe did Western civilization resume its course of progress.

What Chicagoland needs is a 3rd airport out west, where a lot of the population is moving. Heck, the people of Naperville could probably support their own airport.

Northwest flies out of the Greater Chicagoland International Airport in Rockford. It's closer than you think, especially when the parking lot is 40 feet from the door (free parking, too!!)

Some of the best flights of my life were out of Rockford's airport!

(New Yorkers should consider Stewert Airport or Twwed, in New Haven Connecticut)
