Rodney King held after daughter phones police
Dan Glaister in Los Angeles
Saturday October 1, 2005
Rodney King, whose videotaped beating by Los Angeles police officers led to the 1992 Los Angeles riots, has been arrested after an altercation at his home.
Mr King is accused of threatening to kill his former girlfriend and their daughter, Candace King, 23. Ms King called police, saying her father was armed. The gun turned out to be a toy, police said later.
Mr King, who suffers from the effects of a 2003 car accident, is being held in lieu of $250,000 (£142,000) bail. After his beating and the subsequent riots, in which 55 people died, Mr King received a settlement of $3.8m.
Apparently we can't.
...and, now he's completely broke and in-out of jail regularly.
"A fool and his money..."
Hmmm....when I did wrong as a youth, I got a whippin'. When I forgot the lesson, and engaged in bad conduct, I received another whippin'.
Perhaps Rotney did not receive a proper whippin'.
He certainly recieved a proper "settlement."
A toy gun?!
I love your tagline, but I must say that your observation about the coffee is dead on spot, but, they are beignets, and not donuts.
Suffers drom car accident when he was speeding...again, not from beating.
Ya know, if Rodney King's mother had gotten an abortion there'd be less crime. </sarcasm>
Individuals you do not want to 'hitch your wagon to' to advance your cause:
1. Rodney King
2. Cindy Sheehan
3. T Brawley (spell?)
many many others I cannot recall right now...
BTW, why is this reported from the UK?
Maybe Darwin and natural selection has a point here.
wrong... whitey fault... of course. Gee dont you get it?
Agree. The 3.8M simply thwarted the inevitable. Certainly wouldn't classify this case as 'Inteeligent Design'!
Apparently he can not just get along....
Use guys is jus' jealous. You wish you too had a quote in every famous quotations book out there!
I know that, you know that, and I'm pretty sure Jimmy Buffett knows it...but that's how he wrote the song.
King has a lifetime get out of jail free card and can commit any crime on the books and get away with it. I for one am sick of it. The entire video was NOT shown by the media which is WHY the first jury did not convict the police. This is one of the most shameful events in our history, but not because of what is popularly known.
Opps. I'm starting to sound like Bill Bennett.
Well, Just darn, The guy is a career criminal, period. And NO it has nothing to do with being black. ( my Bill Bennett theory:) he got a ton of money and used it for ill gain........Ill gains, he will get back.
You reap what you sow, and obviously he does not care what his children feel.
wow.I posted my comment before reading yours....Similar theories, I think :)
Your attempt at humor is lame at best. I don't think Mr. Bennet is the topic of this thread.
Now, crawl back to DU and assume postion.
You can't spell Brawleys first name. It defies the Oxford and Cambridge dictionary, not to mention all the commonly read books on "naming" your baby.
Although, if memory serves me, it is/was Tawana.
The derivation of Tawana escapes me. Not sure of spelling.
Sorry, just trying to help.
"BTW, why is this reported from the UK?"
To show that America is sinking into the same swamp England is now in.
Come on look at it from Rodneys point of view, " got these b8tches always hitting me up for cash then thay
always be naggin an hollerin, youd be pissed to then the little
b@tch goes an calls the cops on my own damn cell phone,
No kidding, give me 10 years and 3.8 mil to work with and they would have bail at 7 million just to be sure I wouldn't leave the country. And I would still waste the first million!
Knowing the scum in the UK press as well as I do, it's because (usually but not always) that even the scummiest of the assorted US press will not state matters forthrightly, whereas the UK press doesn't give a tiny damn; they just want to sell the rag, 25 or 50p a pop.
Dismissing outright the Economist (generally left-wing) and FT (really left-wing), the only bits worth reading from Fleet Street are on Page 3 of the Sun.
'Tawana' -- etymology: Daughter of illiterate mother, or, in Swahili, 'too dumb to breathe'.
Don't tell the world Rodney King is broke! The L.A. city council will vote to cut him another check for 3.8 million. Everyone knows that rock cocaine and PCP aren't cheap....
