NEW YORK (AP) _ For the second time in recent months, the dean of New York's congressional delegation has questioned whether Vice President Dick Cheney is fit for the duties of his office.
In an interview in August on NY1, the New York City-based all-news channel, Rep. Charles Rangel suggested that Cheney might be too sick to perform his job.
On Friday evening, Rangel was asked in a follow-up talk on the station if he thought Cheney should step down.
"He should never have stepped up in the first place," Rangel said. "He's too old for the job and doesn't have the experience."
Later in Friday's interview, Rangel finished off a list of problems he had with Bush administration policies by adding: "I would like to believe he's sick rather than just mean and evil."
The issue first came up when Rangel was interviewed on Aug. 27 and asked if he thought that President Bush was taking too much vacation time.
"Oh no, it makes the country a lot more safe," Rangel said. "The further Bush is away from Washington, the better it is. And sometimes I don't even think Cheney is awake enough to know what's going on."
Rangel then pointed out that Cheney has heart disease.

Maybe the old socialist should take his own advice...
But Charlie hopes Robert KKK Byrd will run again and again.
Now, were's Rather with that damned memo?
One of these days, Chuckie is going to finally learn the first rule of holes: When in one, quit diggin'. And quit letting Hannity give you new shovels. He's such an arse bonnet.
Lets talk experience. Let's see he has been VP for 5 years. I am sure he has done some other things in the past.
I am sick of these Lifer F*cks in the senate talking smack. I really think there should be discussions about term limits. I mean really what has Teddy K. done in life other than be a worthless senator? Oh yeah he is a lady killer on the side and I don't mean using his rotund figure to attract women. I mean killer!
Based on that criterion, I'd say all of the Democrats in government should step down...starting with Ridiculous Rangel.
He's too old ???
Gee Charlie .. that sure sounds like age discrimination
Few are as qualified to be VPOTUS or POTUS for that matter than Dick Cheney.
He served in the Nixon and Ford White Houses.
He was Wyoming's sole congressman.
And he was Bush41's Secretary of Defense.
This is one the most ridiculous critcisms of Cheney I have ever heard.
The age and experience objections are baseless, of course, though I can't say Bush deserves to be free of criticism for appointing someone to the job with health problems such as Cheney has.
Now they're complaining V/P Cheney isn't healthy enough ...
Go figure ...
Charlie Rangel is a lying racist pig. If he told me the sun shone bright, I'd still step outside to find out the truth.
If you took a cockroach or a rat from a NYC sewer, waved a magic wand and turned it into a human being -- what you'd get is Charlie Rangel.
Well, with that criteria to go on, we could call for every dem in Washington to step down LOL! We could say, "They are either too old or too inexperienced to do their jobs!"
Wait a minute! The dems haven't been doing their jobs anyway! All they ever do is obstruct! Obstruct! Obstruct! And then they blame the other guy!
Interesting. Cheney was born in 1941. John Kerry was born in 1943.
Cheney may have his health problems, and a senior seasoned mature VP, but, Cheney has one of the most sharp intellectual, and political minds in this country.
Thats Democrats/Liberals for you, not only double standard, but, double minded, and mentally disturbed.
So, Charlie. How about he steps down and Bush names a younger, popular man or woman who WILL run in '08?Be careful what you wish for, clown.
Charlie Rangel endorses the draft.
Cindy Sheehan is borderline daft.
The plans of this twosome
Are plain simple gruesome
Since they don't know their fore from their aft.
I am certain we all agree that the Vice President has health issues mainly ones that most people would class as hereditary vascular ones.
During his time as VP or for that matter during any office he has held it has never IMHO affected his ability to do his job.
One only has to look at his travel and work schedule to see that. Yes he has had a few procedures during his time as VP but the very quick timescale he is back working shows rather than that he is sick that he has a very strong constitution and a quick healing body.
For example when he had a pace maker fitted in July 2001 he had the procedure done I think on the Friday or maybe even the Saturday and returned to work on the Monday no mean feat.
Even in 2005 - last Saturday he has a 6 hour elective procedure to repair aneurysms behind both knees, originally only one was going to be done but it went so smoothly the docs were able to both together (not particularly life threatening but can lead to to complications if left). Not only was he well enough to be briefed at the hospital Saturday night but leaves on Sunday morning 27 hours after he arrived and walking and is one again briefed at home Sunday afternoon.
Monday/Tuesday he worked from home, by Wednesday he is back at the White House and able with the aid of a walking stick to appear in the Rose Garden during a press briefing. Thursday he is seen at the swearing ceremony at the White House for the Chief Justice. Friday he travels to Fort Myers for the farewell to General Myers and is seen sitting on the same seats as other guests. Next Tuesday he is once again on his travels to a military base where he will deliver a speech and have luncheon.
On top of this his average daily schedule begins at about 7.00am when he is briefed at home, arrives at the White House for further briefing with the President at 8.00am, 9.00am further meetings and sorting out urgent issues of the day before embarking on the day to day work which may entail visits to the Hill; in his capacity as President of the Senate or as the President point man. He normally returns home between 6.00 and 7.00pm hardly the schedule of a sick old man.
Here is the most recent photo of him quite remarkable if you consider less than a week ago he had 6 hours of surgery. I would say it shows a strong alert man who has a few health issues which he has learned to live and conquer over 25 plus years
Mary Jo Myers, wife of retiring Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Richard B. Myers, and Mrs. Joyce Rumsfeld, wife of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, talk with Vice President Dick Cheney during the Armed Forces Farewell Tribute and Armed Force Hail Ceremony at Fort Myer, Va. on Sept 30, 2005
I rest my case - What is your schedule Charlie Rangel?
Thanks for the ping, see my post 27
Middle Age... discrimination
I find it hard to believe that Rangel says these ridiculous things without a purpose in mind.
These are timed events normally before hit pieces put in the press by the liberal sycophants. Look for major stories on Cheneys health because of his recent operations quoting Rangel as a reference point.
My guess is this an attempt by the democrats to isolate President Bush and make it seem he's weaker because his evil puppet master Dick Cheney is now feeble and doesn't hold as much influence over the affairs of the country
After all, all the democrats think Bush is idiot moron and needs help from Rove and Cheney to know which hand to wipe himself with
Chage his oil, rotate his tires and Cheney's good for another 100,000 miles.
Great post! I KNEW you could do a better job than I could -- and also that you would have been upset if you hadn't been pinged!
There must be some professional term for this continued practice of extending to others that which best explains ourselves.
I remember a Sociology class 4 decades ago where we discussed the thought - "We dislike in others, what we hate in ourselves"
Whenever we observe liberals making charges, we quickly know it is the pot calling the kettle black. When democrats trumped up phony National Guard charges against a standing president, was it not because they could not swallow the fact that their candidate had a terrible military record, a man that was such a coward that he sought phony medals just to save his hide?
I suspect it relates to their world view. Most liberals can not accept their morbid selfish nature. Their motto is: "What's in it for me!" John Kerry was their poster boy
The conservative is more often the one that will reach into his personal pocket and help someone in need, while also helping them find a way out. The liberal will use their influence to reach into your pocket, dragging money through a bureaucratic process resulting in a fraction of the original funds reaching in the initial intended target.
The conservative understands that they have a responsibility, before God, to consider others better than themselves. The liberal sees everything through a mirror of their own reflection.
Could it be that many of the loudest Democrats are truly Narcistic - Narcissistic Personality Disorder American Description Diagnostic Criteria A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

9. shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes
How many spot-light loving liberals does that definition describe?
besides which, he appears to be able to hold the ladies attention with no problem! ; )
Sure Rangel is older, but you don't need to be young or chipper to be one of our fine state misrepresentatives. You don't even need to be present. You don't need to vote on things. You don't need much intelligence; no need to take action. All you need is to put your hand out, or stick your thumb up your...
"I'm convinced that John Edwards is a fantastic vice presidential candidate. We're on a roll."
Dude. You haven't seen the picture of him in a bathing suite that some of our brethren here have so carelessly posted. Seeing him in that bathing suit almost killed ME. UGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!
But a couple of the left's heroes weren't? I am thinking of Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt. Not to mention JFK who was on so many pain killers it makes me wonder how he could even walk and talk.
No doubt Rangel's hero, FDR, was just fine in his wheelchair while he and the media covered up his paralysis.
I think Charlie Rangel is a bitter angry old racist who can't get over the fact that he will never be Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Ignore him.
hey charlie, bull o'connor (sic) lived to be seventy-six, so the clock is ticking on you.
go back to your plantation and take care of your slaves, because the more you open your mouth, the more they are running away from you and your fellow plantation owners:
master jesse, master rev al, master swimmer, madame beast, etal.
True, Rangel is 11 years older. But VP is a demanding job. OTOH, it does not take any intelligence, ability, or awareness of the World to be a Congressman. Charlie Rangel proves that every day...
Rangel&Company are afraid that after all, Cheney just might be the next Republican nominee. They are trying to hustle him off the stage early.
This is why the democrat party is falling apart. With no policy ideas on the major issues facing the nation, all they can do is toss silly rocks at republicans.
Rangel's too obese.
We attack those we fear and the left fear Cheney he is far to alert, intelligent and with it for their liking.
Thanks on both comments.
