Man killed in alleged carjacking attempt of FBI agents
California Wire ^ | October 01, 2005

Posted on 10/02/2005 2:01:58 AM PDT by bad company

LOS ANGELES (AP) One man was shot to death and another wounded after they allegedly attempted a carjacking against two FBI agents who were conducting surveillance, officials said.

The FBI agents apparently were targeted randomly and the incident remains under investigation.

FBI officials Friday declined to identify the slain suspect pending the notification of his relatives. The identity of the wounded suspect also was being withheld, along with the names of two others who were arrested because they are minors.

Both agents were assigned to the FBI's Los Angeles field office. The agency did not disclose their names.

The bureau said in a statement that the two agents were in a parked vehicle in Reseda during an investigation of a violation of the Hobbs Act, which concerns extortion and robbery.

The agents were ``accosted by four young male subjects, at least one of whom was armed'' about midnight and an altercation ensued when the four suspects allegedly tried to take the agents' vehicle, FBI officials said.

Authorities did not say how many shots were fired or how many individuals had guns.

The wounded suspect was hospitalized in stable condition. The other two suspects were in the custody of the Los Angeles Police Department.

FBI officials said a special team will investigate the shooting while local officials will consider criminal charges against the suspects.

The dear departed gangbanger will unquestionably be in the running for the top Darwin Award for 2005. But there will be people who (incredibly) did even stupider things in their efforts to leave the gene pool, so this guy will probably only get an honorable mention. But you have to give him an A+ for originality as I have not seen a previous Darwin competitor who tried to carjack FBI agents.

Your quip reminds me that even if only a small percentage of the populace is armed, it discourages crime against the rest of the population too as long as the criminals can't reliably guess who is armed.

Ok, that's weird. Apparently, I only thought I had copied the text I wanted to quote into the copy buffer.

What I intended to quote was ""That's funny, everyone else we robbed didn't have guns."

Personally I think undercover cops should go cruising the neighborhoods where carjacking is likely.

That would be a public service.

The agents were ``accosted by four young male subjects...

I'm a little ashamed to admit it, but even before I read the above article I said to myself, "I bet they were male!"

I hate being so judgmental., but it looks like in this case I was right. At any rate, I hope no gender profiling occurs in the attempt to apprehend these chaps.

"Noisy Quarrel".

I bet it didn't look too much like a noisy quarrel at all, and the the guy with gun probably didn't live long enough to blink twice, and the two unarmed carjackers probably hugged pavement and squealed a little.

Too bad there isn't any video for other potential carjacking idiots to watch.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that LEO types generally are against citizens being armed, it is just amazing that they would value some replaceable property over someones life.

Don't get me wrong I am glad they got their shots in the thieves. Just kinda funny about practicing what they preach.

Is Raseda a bad neighborhood, I wonder? Were the carjackers white dudes, hispanic or Afro-Americana? Boy did they pick the wrong car to hijack. DOH! Federal charges since they were FBI, or maybe they will catch a break because they didn't know they were G Men?

That's almost as good as trying to rob a bar full of cops.

My son who is a cop was attending a seminar at a local hotel when an idiot robbed the hotel clerk. The lobby was full of civies clad and armed cops from all over the area. They couldn't do anything while the robbery was happening because the idiot criminal had a gun pointed at the clerk at point blank range but they took him down before he made it to the door, without firing a shot.

Few years ago, perps robbed the Chemical Bank branch in Queens, NY, in lobby of office building that held Queens FBI field office. Feds let them get out near street before they shot them so blood wouldn't stain nice marble floor in bank.

Seems they picked the Friday lunch hour when 22 Fibbies were in bank depositing their paychecks.

Paging Dr. Darwin!

Reminds me of the scene in the "Miami Vice" TV show where some thugs try to rob Tubbs while he's on a stakeout. The guys approach his car window and demand his money and credit cards. He refuses; the leader of the gang says "This dude be thinking he's Michael Jackson or something. I'm gonna cut you good, man."

Tubbs lifts the sawed off double barreled shotgun he's holding in his lap and points it at the guy's belly button (the gun's cut off right in front of the forestock - you can damn near see the ends of the shells at the bottom of the barrels) and says "Can it wait? I'm a little busy right now".

I still laugh when I think of that scene.

If there are two guys sitting together in a car at 12:00 a.m. in a rough neighborhood, any reasonably smart person, criminal or cop, has to suspect strongly that they're either thugs or cops; hence, armed. It's a bad idea to try to car jack either type.

You're right. That's why it's a great idea for everybody who can legally qualify, and doesn't have a compelling contrary family reason, to get a CCW permit and carry. As far as I'm concerned, I'm using my carry weapon every minute simply because it's there in my car's glove compartment.

Paging Johnnie Cochran ... Oh wait he is daid and even he would be having a laugh at these dumb [fill in the pejorative]. Still you are right, some bottom feeding lawyer will try to make his year with the chance at the right judge and jury of their 'peers'.

When and how did it get to the point where jury duty had to be based on matching or contrasting selected demographics. How about a genuinely random sampling of unassociated adults or is that too logical?

VPI and the Chief's orgs portray that as a case. Law abiding citizens with guns, not a problem. You NEVER hear about them. Drunks with guns, Adam Henrys with guns...

Many rank and file cops are NRA members. It's not an accident.

MSM is not interested in a real image of cops, just the ones that make a good (sale) story.

Immediate lethal force is justified when there is an imminent threat of lethal bodily harm.

Pointing a gun at an innocent with an expression of a threat to kill legally justifies defensive guns blazing. No brainer.
