Dear Mr. President,

I never imagined a day would come when I would disavow a Republican President, but that day is here. With your selection of Harriet Miers today, you have betrayed your word, you have betrayed me and you have betrayed every social conservative who ever worked on your behalf.

This was a historic opportunity for you to deliver on your campaign promises and finally give us a nominee in the vein of Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. Instead you fumbled. We know Michael Luttig, Edith Hollan Jones, or Janice Rogers Brown are reliably conservative. We have no such assurance with Harriet Miers. All we can do is read the tea leaves and pray for the best. With the abundance of highly qualified conservatives, your decision to roll the dice is, with all respect, inexcusable.

Despite misgivings, I have supported you through the increasing debacle in Iraq and the mushrooming federal deficit. The one and only thing I hoped for in return was a staunchly conservative Supreme Court nominee, as you promised. Like your father with his "no new taxes" pledge you have turned your back on your most reliable supporters. It breaks my heart to say so, but since you seem so interested in the approval of the Democratic party, let Ted Kennedy, Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton carry your banner from now on. Regretfully, I will no longer provide time, money, or support to you or your administration.

I personally know lawyers that worked with her for many years who claim that her personal philosophy is a strict Jeffersonian originalism. In my book, that is a very good thing -- we need more judges willing to pare down the scope and influence of the Federal government more than anything else.

This morning I overreacted. I heard donation to dnc candidates that was it. I had to remind myself I & my entire family were democrats (59 first cousins on one side) did not live my faith or walk with God. Harriet Miers may have gone through the same changes like I did. I applaud(sic) your attempt to try to stoke the embers of discontent, however, most on Free Republic know that nothing is really known this early and all of these embers are based simply on speculation. This isn't much different than those who come to stoke embers around immigration reform; simply infiltration to try to split the base.
