NORMAN, Okla. -- The general manager of a Norman feed store said Tuesday that Joel Henry Hinrichs III had inquired about purchasing a significant amount of ammonium nitrate, the primary ingredient used in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
Dustin Ellison, the general manager of Ellison Feed & Seed on Porter Avenue, said that a man matching Hinrichs' description had come into the store days before he blew himself up on OU's campus. Ellison said the man asked about ammonium nitrate, but couldn't offer a reason why he needed it.
After the bombing, Ellison said he thought nothing of it. However, when he saw Hinrichs' photo, it triggered his memory.
To this point, authorities still suggest Hinrichs' only motive for blowing himself up was suicide. The FBI released a statement Tuesday evening saying that "there is no known link between Hinrichs and any terrorist or extremist organization(s) or activities."
The release also indicated that the FBI believes there is "no known current threat posed by any additional explosive materials."
Ellison noted that his store doesn't carry ammonium nitrate any longer after recent legislation required new paperwork for stores to sell the product.
Stay tuned to Eyewitness News 5 for further details.
PING
MEGA-PING
I saw the original thread about this case but never have heard anything about it on the news.
where jayna davis?
Sounds like heavy BS to me.
Jayna is not a reporter anymore, sadly. Her book was excellent and she will hopefully get on this story independently.
"Joel Henry Hinrichs III had inquired about purchasing a significant amount of ammonium nitrate, the primary ingredient used in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing"
Well, it does look as if something bigger was afoot now, doesn't it?
Yep, and you are going to go to a crowded football stadium for the purpose of suicide by explosion, right? The fact that they found Jihadist materials in Hinrichs' flat is only a coincidence, too, right?
When McVeigh did his dirty deed, no stone was left unturned in outing white supremicists and militias. How many people were killed in OKC, 140? Compare that to 9-11 and expend at least the same amount of effort on the Islamofacists!
Is there any new/further info about him having a Pakistani roommate and that he (Hinrick's) frequented a mosque?
"Well, it does look as if something bigger was afoot now, doesn't it?"
Yes, it does.
This is the recurring phrase in most of the articles on Google News about this case:
"...died Saturday when a device attached to his body exploded".
There was much less hedging when the pizza delivery guy in the North East had his head blown off by a bomb that someone else allegedly locked around his neck.
Did Hinrichs blow himself up while the OU band played Boomer Sooner?
"When McVeigh did his dirty deed, no stone was left unturned..."
Plenty of stones that led to Iraqis were not just left unturned, but completely ignored.
Well, supposedly digitalbrownshirt heard the local CBS TV affiliate's reporters saying something about this about an hour ago, but it's nowhere to be found on the 'net or the MSM.
Thanks for posting this.
Maybe he wanted the AN to make his suicide bombing more effective.
They are saying they will have "more details" at 10 tonight. I'll watch to see what they might have.
Maybe the NYT and the WP will run banner healines tomorrow?
Naah!
"Maybe he wanted the AN to make his suicide bombing more effective."
Or, maybe a little of that, a little of this, a little diesel fuel and voila, truck bomb, act II in Oklahoma.
You're welcome. I just ask in return that you help keep the story bumped and ping your friends since MSM=MIA.
More like, turned back over so no one would notice.
The rumor that he had Jihadist materials was only footed by WND... hardly a reliable source for the past year, at least.
"More like, turned back over so no one would notice."
Why? That's what I've always wondered. So the economy wouldn't tank?
Ping to some of you who might be interested in this item. It's becoming more and more evident that this kid was not that tragic 'individual suicide' that the University President is so anxious to proclaim.
Certainly gives a whole new meaning to Boomer Sooner.
This came from freeper digitalbrownshirt's blog: Hinrichs bombshells
Local Oklahoma City CBS affiliate News 9 had a report on Joel Hinrichs this afternoon that said he had a Pakastani room mate. They didn't want to name him yet, but it appeared that they're going to actually cover the story, so President Boren better come up with a new story soon. They also said that Hinrichs tried to buy ammonium nitrate from a feed store a few days before his death. That's the same fertilizer that was used by Timothy McVeigh when he blew up the Murrah Building in downtown Oklahoma City. In additon the report said that their sources had seen Joel Hinrichs at the Islamic center that is located just a block from his home.
I'll post a link to the story as soon as it's posted on their website. Hopefully tonight.
Just a suicide my ***.
Let us not jump to conclusions. Depressed people often try to find an outlet for their depression by getting a hobby.
Oklahoma is known as being a state with a large Agricultural base. Hinrichs most likely had decided to take up farming and was laying in some supplies. He was also reputed to be unhappy with his major. I think it is not unreasonable to think he was switching from Engineering to Agriculture. OU does have its Aggies, does it not?
If you look at it with the calm rational eyes of Boren we might conclude that Hinrichs choose the open space by the stadium to commit suicide because it reminded him of his frustration of being taken away from his love of farming by the demands of his ME studies. Ok. We can remove the sarcasm tag now.
FYI re the best kept secret of the MSM this past week.
That would be a good first guess. Plus, their fear of mass panic and possibly reprisals.
"How many people were killed in OKC, 140?"

The media silence is DEAFENING! sending this on to Drudge, LGF, and others... you should too
Sooner Boomer? Yes, I know. Poor taste.
When someone is looking a AN, they thinking beyond just killing themselves.
Good for News 9! Is that KOCO? If so, kudoes to them for not knuckling under and burying this story, in fact for aggressively following up on it.
"beyond just killing themselves."
Maybe he was deeply nihilist, and fascinated with becoming "pink mist?"
He was a sick puppy.
Now we need to know was he sick by himself or did some imported jihadists make him sick.
I am listening to Rick Roberts subbing for Michael Savage today.
Roberts said Jihad materials were found in the bomber's apartment.
Someone posted in the live thread Saturday that they talked to the bomber's frat brothers and they said he was not associated with Islam.
===
Apparently, there is still more info to come to light on this.
"Now we need to know was he sick by himself or did some imported jihadists make him sick."
Predators are skilled at recognizing weakness. He was likely very suggestible and open to their efforts. Children of academic lefties are uniquely malleable in this regard, a literal empty vessel waiting to be filled; think John Walker Lindh.
"there is no known link between Hinrichs and any terrorist or extremist organization(s) or activities."
Neither was the unibomber or Eric Rudolph and according to FBI claims Tim McVeigh.
Which one? Too late for Hinrichs...
Maybe that's the out word on that one. Maybe they don't have any links that they want to KNOW for public consumption right now. That's ok as long as (a) they have a good but temporary reason for keeping people in the dark (to track down perps and build the links); (b) they come clean when they do know what's up.
Recent evidence suggests they may never let it out. But I think this one is just too public, with too many loose ends, they will have to release what they know because there are too many people who know pieces of it. There is also going to be heavy, heavy pressure from the Univ of Oklahoma administration to keep the wraps on this one.
Didn't he note during the Fraternity's minutes about trying to buy "ammo" on Ebay, and some guy maybe getting his address?
This guy was a Jihad terrorist.
