3rd Man Detained in Connection With Terror Plot, Official Says By WILLIAM K. RASHBAUM and TIMOTHY WILLIAMS
A third man has been detained in a suspected plot to detonate explosives on the city's subway system, a government official said today, as police officers searched passengers' bags on subways, buses and ferries.
Authorities are holding three Al Qaeda operatives in connection with the suspected plot, although no details were available on who they are, where they were detained or what agency captured them, said the government official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information. Authorities on Thursday said two men had been taken into custody. A third was captured today, the official said.
The official said the informer who provided information about the men had undergone explosives training with them at an Al Qaeda camp in Afghanistan. Security in and around the city's transit network was sharply increased Thursday after city officials announced that they had been notified by federal authorities in Washington of a terrorist threat that for the first time specified the city's transit system.
At subway stations today, riders went about their commutes and said they were generally unworried about the potential threat. This afternoon, service on the Nos. 1 and 3 lines was suspended between 34th and 96th Streets, for about half an hour, after a suspicious item was pointed out on the track near 50th Street and Broadway. The No. 2 service was temporarily rerouted onto the No. 5 line, which travels up and down the East Side.

This guy was arrested in Iraq per other sources.

Our guys have made some good catches!
This one has the whole country spooked.
It would be a tragedy if these pieces of sh!t were accidentally beaten to death while in custody, after any valuable information was extracted from them in the most horrific way possible.
A real tragedy.
someone is down playing all this....3 arrests - go figure. If true I think they don't want them to run...
I heard a report that Ray Kelly called the Pentagon...and was told it was very serious.
This pooh poohing a threat is why people are ignoring these warning when they are issued.
Heard that Dope Savage ranting and raving that Bloomberg screwed up big time...every day, Savage becomes more and more irrelevant.....
" no details on...who they are, where they were detained or what agency captured them"
PERFECT!
I get so fed up with "they found Achmed Mohhamed going back to his apartment on First Street in Brooklyn . He may be part of a cell that is associated with the Mosque on Center Ave., so they will question him to see if there are any others so they can catch them by surprise too."
bump for later read
"Savage becomes more and more irrelevant."Maybe he's not taking his meds.
well if not true...just think the NYC crime rate went down for a couple of days (sic)...
Here where i live our subway system is not a problem. We don't hav one in our little town, but we do know how to handle a few Terrorists.
Bush won every county in our state:-)
I think there are those who want to cover this up because it validates our being in Iraq. An individual detained by our troops in Iraq gave the intel. Had we not been in Iraq we would have never captured the individual and not obtained the intel and therefore not thwarted a possible attack on the New York subway system.
Maybe they'll accidentally touch the third rail while trying to escape.
How did they find these guys? Were they wearing I love NY t-shirts?
No. I bumb NY in Arabic (they can't spell bomb correctly in Arabic -- and neither can I...)
(If I spelled bumb with an o it might be an oh no at my door later tonight...)
(Referencing a breaking story in Brooklyn a few months ago when some folks that looked like they were from ME were studying Subway maps when the NYFD had a fire inspection...)
