"Those cared for by friends or grandparents or other relatives did a little better while those looked after by nannies or childminders were rated second only to those cared for by mothers. "

I am confused. Are they saying nannies are second best to moms and that friends/grandparents/relatives are third best?? If so, I agree that it's total BS. I work (sorry but no choice) and my kids are either with my mom or their dad during the day (and school for the older two when applicable). I don't see how a nanny is preferable.

The economy would come to a grinding halt, and we can't have that now, can we?

No, it just means we'd start living within our means, and all that nasty consumer debt, trade deficits, and bankruptcy jazz would...diminish.

Cheers!

You and I are on the same page, but we are totally way beyond the current "think".

I hate being older, wiser, and knowing what really matters in life. There are so many labels that can be easily applied to us older folk, so I mostly talk to myself.

You moms out there who absolutely need to work to feed your babes, I have been there and done that. I am telling you straight out that they need you more than clothes, sneakers, cars, iPods, nice furniture, and a "classy neighborhood".

Examine your priorities, think hard about what you really need to have a happy life, calculate how much money you "could" save by staying home, shopping yard sales, learning to cook, sew, knit, garden, etc...

You might be surprised, particularly if you give up that second car payment, fast food, work clothes, day care/after school care, and move into a much cheaper, smaller house...

Reminds me of that stupid study I had to learn about in the 70's. They prepared two surrogate mothers in a cage with a baby monkey.
One surrogate was a stupid fake head with a wire body and the other was the same stupid fake head with a terry cloth body.

Now which surrogate mommy do you suppose the baby monkey preferred?
Only a "genius" would surprised by this one.

First you must become stupid so we can educate you and make you feel smart.

Can you spell D-U-H?

Much as I agree with the results, I didn't need to spend a quarter million dollars (what the heck - let's just call it a million) to help me decide.

Another universal truth known to mankind throughout history: "Babies do best with their mothers."

The UK, who has been muddled in socialism since 1945, is just now finding out that the socialist "family village" is somewhat flawed and that sometimes the important one is the individual.
