Apart from some basic family details, I didn't learn much from this post at all.
why don't the reporters spend the same energy trying to find out who killed Evelyn? We all think we know, but no one is being charged.
Exactly.
DHS failed this child. And Vilsack needs to answer to this.
New Details In Miller Murder Case
We're learning more information about the kidnapping and murder of five year old Evelyn Miller of Floyd. She lived with her mother, Noel, and Noel's fiance, Casey Frederiksen. He's jailed on a child pornography charge, but no one's been charged with the murder.
On Sunday, our coverage partner, The Courier, will publish disturbing new details about the lives of the couple at the center of this unsolved mystery. It's a story about a little five year old girl, just an innocent kid.
Dozens and dozens of people in Floyd County say Evelyn Miller was born into a nightmare. And somehow, she ended up dead. Courier reporters knew they had their work cut out for them. They wanted to tell the story of Evelyn Miller's life. They wanted to sort fact from fiction.
Brian Spannagel is a Courier staff writer and says, "It seems like since nobody knows...who killed Evelyn that suspicion and speculation is swelling."
So Dennis Magee and Brian Spannagel spent two weeks talking to dozens of neighbors and people in Floyd and Charles City and sifting through police and court records. Magee is the Courier's regional editor and says, "The casual observer just reading the paper and just watching TV probably didn't get a clear picture of what this little girl was dealing with."
They say they heard very consistent reports of a little girl living life in a very dirty "drug culture." They say alcohol was clearly a problem too, for both Noel Miller and her fiance. Casey Frederickson. Evelyn spent many hours wandering the apartment grounds, even late at night, by herself, unsupervised. "We have half a dozen people saying that marijuana was a problem, drugs were a problem. Neglect I think, flowed from that."
"Now it's a crime you know, now we can't even go into our own home," said Noel Miller, right after Evelyn disappeared. When Evelyn went missing, Courier sources say Noel Miller was always very hostile toward authorities. Some officers asked to be re-assigned from the case. Even some volunteers who showed up to search, went home, turned off by what they saw and heard from Noel. "During the search, the comment was, 'wouldn't it be nice to be in an air conditioned bar? It might be our only chance to get free drinks," Courier sources say.
Again, nobody has been charged with Evelyn's murder. The story coming out Sunday in The Courier will certainly not help the case of Noel Miller and Casey Frederiksen. Noel and Casey didn't comment for the story. Nor did Floyd County Attorney Marilyn Dettmer. Dettmer has said she will not name any suspects in the murder of Evelyn Miller until someone is criminally charged.
Evelyn Miller ping.
