Clinton aides battle Freeh over '60 minutes' book

Under strong pressure from former President Bill Clinton's advisers, CBS's ''60 Minutes'' has agreed to read a statement denying an explosive charge being made on Sunday nght's program by former FBI director Louis Freeh, the WASHINGTON POST reports.

In the statement, Samuel ``Sandy'' Berger, Clinton's national security adviser, challenges Freeh's assertion that Clinton failed to press Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah to cooperate with an investigation of the 1996 bombing of Khobar Towers in that country, and used the occasion to ask for a contribution to his presidential library. The Saudis made such a donation last year _ six years after the 1998 meeting.

Berger, who was at the meeting, said: ``The president strongly raised the need for Saudi officials to cooperate with us on the investigation into the attack on Khobar Towers at the time when the FBI was attempting to gain access to the suspects. The president did not raise in any fashion the issue of his library.''

Clinton spokesman Jay Carson said he told CBS's Mike Wallace that he had supportive accounts from five other former officials at the meeting, including those briefed about a private conversation between Clinton and Abdullah.

``The fair journalistic question is why they didn't call and get comments for their story from people who were in the room, such as Sandy Berger, and why they took until Friday afternoon to get that done,'' said Lanny Davis, a former White House lawyer, who tried to persuade ''60 Minutes'' producer Jeff Fager to allow him or another Clinton spokesman to appear on Sunday night's segment.

Carson, who called the Freeh book ``a total work of fiction.''

Amazing that Clinton would recruit another criminal to try and rebut the words of the former FBI director, huh...

Carson, who called the Freeh book ``a total work of fiction.''

I want to know what Carson said or did. Finish the sentence, Drudge!

Let me guess, all of the notes from Klintoon's meeting with the Saudi prince have disappeared from the National Archives.

So if you take clinton's rebuttal at face value what he is saying is that he was totally ineffective at pursuing America's case with Abdullah and it was left to George Bush senior to get the job done.

Is that what he's trying to tell us?

the WASHINGTON POST reports

I have not been able to locate the story that Drudge is referencing on the washingtonpost.com website. The site is displaying "washingtonpost.com is undergoing maintenance and some sections of the site are temporarily unavailable" messages when I try to go to the Politics page or to perform a Search. Maybe it will be posted later this evening...

Too bad this story is coming from CBS 60 minutes. If it was otherwise, there may have some hope that is a glimmer of truth in the story.

I don't care who 60 Minutes is wack'n, they is still ly'n.

From the internet:

"Former President Bill Clinton has hired a new spokesman, a veteran of the Howard Dean 2004 presidential campaign and New York City's 2012 Olympics bid.

Jay Carson was also a former press secretary for Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., and has worked for the Democratic National Committee. Clinton's office announced Carson's hiring Tuesday."

With that kind of self destructive background Freeh has nothing to worry about!

Sort of. They provided copies to the WH, who rope-a-doped
them. Had the WH demanded equal time, I suspect CBS would
either have granted it, or not run the story. Instead,
the WH set a bag of dog poo out, and CBS stepped right
in it (although it took bloggers to report the stench).

Anyhow, that BJ has dispatched the Bergler to make this
statement is hillarious. Sandy may report to prison
shortly for busting his parole, and all politically-
aware viewers know this about him.

I wonder if the Berger docs are part of this. The timing of his crime can't be a coincidence.

The Kurintong Kabal wants hearsay evidence to override the FBI director's word.

This report from 60 Minutes PROVES that they may as well be taken as seriously as The Onion. For Clinton to bring Sandy Burgler forth to vouch for him and lend him any credibility is hysterical. Seriously, this needs to be on a Saturday Night Live skit!

Ole Loui sure stuck a pin in the party doll now. If his book is fiction then the Clintanistas can prove it wrong.
