ISLAMABAD--An estimated 30,000 people were killed in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir by a massive earthquake, the region's Minister for Works and Communication Tariq Farooq told Agence France-Presse Sunday."Our rough estimates say more than 30,000 people have died in the earthquake in Kashmir," he said. Pakistan's military said earlier that at least 18,000 died in the 7.6 magnitude quake that hit Saturday.
"There are cities, there are towns which have been completely destroyed. Muzaffarabad is devastated," he added, referring to the capital of Pakistan's sector of disputed Kashmir.
10k dead in New Orleans as well according to the press.
Sorry, but I'm letting the 'world' take this one w/out my $$$. I offer prayers this time.
Anyone know if Nagin was consulted for this story?
You don't want your taxes raised so we can dump raw cash over the rubble from a B-52?
Hate monger.
Have you got a link? I'd like to post this elsewhere. Thanks.
This should work - http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle.asp?xfile=data/subcontinent/2005/October/subcontinent_October316.xml§ion=subcontinent&col=
Thanks. Prayers in the Name of Christ for those killed and their families and friends. This is horrific.
I hope we do send helicoptors. We can genuinley send in our best search and rescure guys to do good, find and help injured etc., but if we send thousands of people to assist it may be in our interests to slip in a couple of hundred CIA types amongst them to have a less restricted look round that afghan/pakistan border than would normally be the case. A win/win mission.
thousands of poor,
were swept into the swamp by raging floodwaters,
and eaten by alligators
Will the Clinton/Bush I tag team be out there asking for $$ again?
LOL!!! You know the media just wish this had happened. Geraldo's head would still be spinning.
LOL
haiku?
What assistance are the Arab countries sending to Pakistan?
This earthquake occurred over a large area, which included significant populated areas, so the number of casualties could well be that much and more.
The New Orleans mayor was clearly exaggerating things just to make President Bush look bad. There there was a lot of warning, and even afterwards people could be rescued. In an earthquake there is no warning, people can't escape and run away.

With any luck, UBL's hidey-hole has turned to solid earth with him in it...
Will any of our race baiters get up and blame Pervez Musharraf for this?
No way....Musharaf is a "person of color." LOL
I wonder how long before the Islamic Radicals blame America and our "Earth Quake Machine" again....Or the expolsions of American *slash* Zionist Nukes under Pakistan? I bet 400 quatlus...less than a week.
Of course not. Don't you know anything?
*hangs head*...I forgot.
they keep upping the estimate, there won't be any Pakistan left to mes with
it seems I remember readng long ago about Iran using an airplane crash to claim lives lost, that weren't, they were soldiers going out on covert ops
I believe the number in the Bam earthquake was over 40,000 killed.
This earthquake will easily result in 10's of thousands killed.
Sort of reminds me of some raghead imam in Egypt who claimed that Hurricane Katrina was the result of Allah's will to destroy the great Satan, the United States. Well, well. I guess the tsunami that wacked mostly Islamic countries earlier and this little earthquake in Pakistan were the work of the Great Satan and his little devil, Israel. Whaddyatink? It continually amazes me that these religious leaders have no rational, intelligence at all.
Perhaps, but the same MSM reported that, too.
And they didn't have the scrutiny or competative news source to reveal their lies.
Who knows how much innaccurate filth they have spewed that we have taken as fact, unchallanged.
From now on, my first thought given any sensationalist news will be to ask "So where do I get the facts from?". It will likely be here at FR and not some article sourced from the alphabet networks or other media.
As for the quake casualties, I'm skeptical.
It's not like they can accurately assess this through all of the chaos right now anyways. Who could possibly believe they could actually mobilized fast enough to get people in there to count? More than likely this number is an estimate from those in charge in Pakistan who have basically "written off" the lives of those in multiple towns and districts. They know they can't get help there fast enough and probably wouldn't if they could.
The story is already circulating out there on the fringes. Apparently Bush is attempting to make some gains in popularity and has somehow caused a large magnitude quake to a) cover up his inability to capture OBL and is using earthquakes to do it, b) redirecting the American public's gaze away from his Presidency, and c) developing technology that will scare the tin hat crowd even more.
Or some variants of each.
I pray for the people there and also that the Robert Fisks and Lew Rockwells and George Soros et al. cease and desist from turning this tragedy into yet another political strategy.
Prayers sent for the death of the innocents. Are they saying that the worst hit was the Kashmir ares? I heard it was as far south as Islamabad. More than likely, the most deaths were caused from collapsing buildings.
.....This earthquake occurred over a large area.......
....Where population densities are probably double the most densly populatrd sections of NOLA.
In a country with inaccurate census, the death toll estimates are pretty much without any basis in fact.
The total will never be known.
The one thing we know for sure is that the deaths are all the will of ALLAH.
Yes, very much so. I fear sending money and aid to Pakistan will be about as effective as sending it to Zimbabwe.
Perhaps we might send Bono? No, I wouldn't wish that upon anyone...
