I sent you an email,
e-mail?
None of our base are belong to us.
Go to forum page and look upper right corner for mail..
Hope I'm around long enough to get to U.S. bases in Bulgaria and Romania...that would be fun....
I was stationed in Germany during the 1950's, liked the people and the country. Am told now the people have changed, a lot.
Actually Italy, Romania and Bulgaria. Closer to the theater of operations.
West germany was a wonderful place during 50's 60's. I was Navy Airdale (VR) attached to AF in mid 60's . We were based at McGuire and ran special missions for Navy as part of MATS.
I think the wall coming down in 89 changed the German landscape and attitude.
Sorry about email. Don't know what happened.
Were/are you FIS in AF?
Anybody know if Thule (Bluie West I) and SondreStromFjord (BW 8)on Greenland are still operational? Was at BW 8 in early 50s.
Well, they are closing Fort Gillem, but I expect Bragg, Benning, Stewart, and Hood will be open for a while. (You are talking about the Yankee occupation of the South, aren't you?)
Closing some of the bases in smaller towns will hurt, but this will actually benefit the local economy. The Frankfurt airport has wanted and needed the land for expansion for at least a decade.
The men and women who served here, ready to take on Soviet and Soviet-bloc armed forces--and our guys and gals were always outnumbered--to protect us if and when deserve our appreciate and thanks for your service and your commitment. We're glad we never had to use your services for our defense, and we're glad you were there just in case.
(I have not served. My tagline honors my son and my cousin.)
Good for them. Austin, Tx. did the same thing after Bergstrom was closed. After a bit of whining of course.
They have wante us gone forever. The SDP is and has been very strong in the area. The runways are adjacent to Frankfurt-am-Main airport and they can use the space. We are pulling back to the Ramstein-K-Town area, where we ARE a major force in the local economy.
Major build up at Ramstein. We were there until 1999. Fiends say we would hardly recognize the place. We hope to go back next year to take a look ourselves.
I remember Rhein Main.. I was an Army brat and lived in Germany for 14 years.. Used to go to Rhein Main all the time.. Only place better was Mainz Kastelle with it's fantatasic stereo shop which took up the entire top floor of a long building...
I hear that Spang is getting some of the traffic.
