Nothing To See Here - Move Along
By Michelle Malkin
October 12, 2005
Oct. 12 marks the fifth anniversary of the bombing of the USS Cole. Seventeen American sailors were murdered in the attack. They were casualties of a war with radical Islamic terror that America hadn't yet declared and which the mainstream media still refuses to acknowledge today.
Too many of us were blind in 2000 -- unable or unwilling or simply too uninterested to connect such blood-stained dots as al Qaeda's 1993 World Trade Center bombing attack, the 1996 Khobar Tower bombings, the 1998 African embassy bombings, and the attack on the Cole. After Sept. 11, 2001, all of our eyes should have been pried wide open to the evils of Muslim extremism that exist among us in both organized and freelance form.
The watchdogs in the national press, however, insist on clouding our vision.
Since 9/11, I've reported on the media's reluctance to highlight the convicted Washington, D.C.-area snipers' Islamist proclivities and journalists' refusal to call Egyptian gunman Hesham Hadayet's acts of murder at the Israeli airline counter at Los Angeles International Airport on July 4, 2002, "terrorism."
Middle East scholar Daniel Pipes noted how quickly the media sought to whitewash the bloody bus-hijacking by Croatian illegal alien Damir Igric a month after 9/11. Although the incident "echoed similar attacks by Palestinians on Israeli buses," Pipes observed, the "media attributed the violence to post-traumatic stress syndrome."
National Guardsman Ryan Anderson (a.k.a. Amir Talhah), a Muslim convert who allegedly attempted to pass sensitive military information to al Qaeda over the Internet, rated barely a blip on the media radar screen.
Similarly, press accounts have downplayed the disruption of terrorist cells on American soil: The Lackawanna Six were just nice Muslim boys led astray. The Virginia Jihad Network was just a group of weekend paintball enthusiasts. Those indicted imams in Lodi, Calif., are just misunderstood "moderates." Terror suspects deported on immigration charges are just victims of discrimination.
Now, many of my readers wonder why the MSM won't touch the strange and troubling story of the University of Oklahoma bomber, Joel Henry Hinrichs III. On Oct. 1, Hinrichs died on a park bench outside the school's packed football stadium when a homemade bomb in his possession exploded. The Justice Department has sealed a search warrant in the case. The university's president, David Boren, is pooh-poohing local media and Internet blog reports of possible jihadist influences on Hinrichs. The dead bomber was, we are being told, simply a depressed and troubled young man with "no known ties" to terrorism.
Never mind that, according to local news reporters, the bomb-making material found in Hinrichs' apartment was triacetone triperoxide -- the explosive chemical of choice of shoe bomber Richard Reid and the London 7/7 subway bombers.
Never mind the local police department's confirmation that Hinrichs had attempted to buy ammonium nitrate a few days before his death.
Never mind the concerns of Oklahoma University student journalist Rachael Kahne, who told me this week in a call for the media's help:
"I've been working on this story since the night it happened, and have been stonewalled at every turn. . . . Minutes after the explosion, police busted into a student's apartment and arrested four Muslim students who were there for a small gathering (the president of the Muslim Student Association assures me this was in no way a "party"). Among those arrested [and later released] was Fazal Cheema, Joel Henry Hinrichs' Pakistani roommate. I was baffled when I heard this. I didn't know how police would be able to identify who Hinrichs was, where he lived, who his roommate was, and then find where his roommate was in a matter of minutes. Something isn't adding up, and I've been wracking my brain for the past week trying to figure out what happened here. OU isn't saying anything more than the typical PR spin, and the FBI won't talk."
Nothing to see here. Move along. Islam is a peaceful religion. Stop asking so many damned questions.
Such is the attitude of the national media, which seems to believe that 'tis better to live in ignorance and indulge in hindsight later than to offend the gods of political correctness.

This is a new angle to me. Were the authorities already tracking Hinrich, and maybe don't want to admit that they screwed up once again, as they did when they let the OKC bombing happen?
Good article.
Well, yes and no. I work with many people who knew that, after 1993, the WTC would be a target again. Anyone with a New Yorker's sense knew it.
The exchange where I work set up a backup operation after 1993 which they moved smoothly into and resumed operations the week following 9/11, because they were prepared, and they were prepared because they knew it was a possibility. A number of people I work with either left the Towers or never entered them to begin with that morning because they knew immediately what was going on, because they knew it was a possibility.
So not everyone had their eyes closed. Pity that the leadership did for so long.
Great Post. I have pinged the OU Bombing master pinger(indcons).Good for Malkin! I hope this gets some press.
But Malkin did not say "everyone" was unaware, she said "too many of us were". That's hard to disagree with.
Well, I pointed how some people were quite aware. Anyone who wanted to be, was. The one's who should have been, chose not to be.
I didn't know this fact before reading the article. It's interesting that this young guy wanted to commit suicide by blowing himself up with a bomb he already had in his possession, but apparently wanted to make sure he was really, really dead by blowing himself up again with an amonium nitrate bomb. That's quite a 'suicide' plan.
Anyway, most Americans don't believe the ridiculous spin the media put on this (likely) terror attack. What I don't understand, however, is why Michelle didn't also attack the closed-lips government along with the lying-lips media.
save
bump for a good one.
He was spotted a day before trying to buy the fertilizer. So he was on the radar at that point. When the defecation hit the mechanical low air pressure actuator, they jumpewd on leads.
CRAP!! some of my best posts are ruined by a lack of spweeeelll chek!
For several years they sang his song
he was a hero to their cause
In denial many lived
he placed himself up above the laws
He knew all of the right things to say
down through
hell and then back believers would go
In eight long years he's done to us
more damage than you know
For his neglect we would finally pay the price
the count's three thousand dead
We know just where to place the blame
it is on Bill Clinton's head
When the Cole was hit and brave men died
there is no doubt that he hadn't cried
He looked at his polls and sighed
Now this is the end
this is the end
of his legacy
At OKC he saw his chance
he needed to divide us all
He would create the vast right wing
and his mind-numbed fools would pick up the ball
So we'd fight among ourselves
and the
grand scheme had worked, he got his way
With our attention diverted he
would gut the CIA
For his neglect we would pay the price
the count's three thousand dead
We know just where to place the blame
it is on Bill Clinton's head
When the Cole was hit and brave men died
there is no doubt that he hadn't cried
He looked at his polls and sighed
Now this is the end
this is the end
of his legacy
We endured a psychopath
who saw himself as the Rockstar Prez
We had sent the warnings out
watch what this man does, not what he says
For neglect we paid the price
when those great buildings fell with many dead
And we know just where to place the blame
it's on Bill Clinton's head
When the Cole was hit and brave men died
there is no doubt that he hadn't cried
He looked at his polls and sighed
Now this is the end
this is the end
of his legacy
She forgot the muslim sniper outside of the CIA offices during Clinton's watch.
>>>>This is a new angle to me. Were the authorities already tracking Hinrich, and maybe don't want to admit that they screwed up once again, as they did when they let the OKC bombing happen?
Did authorities actually screw up? The bomb only took out Hinrich. Maybe the tracking was a success.
She sure did! That was Langley, right? Some people got hit,I can't remember if anyone was killed.
Here we go again................
A CURIOUS SUICIDE IN SAN DIEGO
By Michelle Malkin · October 11, 2005 12:28 PM
Bunch of readers and bloggers are sending word of this weird story:
A man who fatally shot himself in his University City condominium during a standoff with San Diego police was identified Saturday as a 29-year-old student.
An autopsy is scheduled tomorrow on the body of Khaled Yasufi, medical examiner Investigator Sal Rodriguez said.
Police were sent to the 8700 block of Costa Verde Boulevard after someone reported a strong odor coming from a condo about 1 p.m. Friday, SDPD Sgt. Jim Schorr said.
A man in the condo told officers everything was fine and shut the door, Schorr said. Within a couple of minutes, a gunshot was heard, prompting police to clear the building, Schorr said.
Police eventually sent in a camera-equipped robot, which transmitted images of a body in the unit. When officers made entry after a standoff of about six hours, a chemical lab was found in the bathroom of the condo, police said.
Smash asks: What's going on?
Maybe CBS News will look into it.
The Clinton Administration evaded reality as much as possible. He and his cronies had facts galore. Their only goal was to avoid having to act. So squelching the facts was big business to them. Right out of Atlas Shrugged.
I think Bush is slightly better on this one. However, he wants to avoid anything religious, which prohibits him following the Radical Muslims to their leaders in Iran.
And this has nothing to do with anything, but it's really bugging me! Why the heck doesn't the United States use every drop of Iraqi oil for ourselves? We certainly have invested enough money in freeing those oppressed people. We are owed it. Not to mention it was stolen from our oil companies in the 50's by those Arabian thiefs. We are now fighting the war that Eisenhower should have started.
Thanks for the link! Our local media has been stonewalled is an understatement. FBI/OK Homeland Security/Boren are attempting to cover this up -- it has got to be kept alive until the truth comes out. Those of us in the stadium that night along with everyone else in this Nation are owed the truth.
The Bush administration has been closed lipped on everything from the Gore team trashing the White House before leaving to the fraudulent photos the Boston Globe ran from a porn site as "Abu Ghraib abuse".
It isn't always a "conspiracy of silence". This administration has been quiet about a lot of things. Why weren't they active in finding out who forged the National Guard memos?
They move forward and don't dwell on the past when they should.
I will add that both the left and the right try to (wrongly) claim that there have been no attacks on US soil since the 9-11 attacks. The left wants to push the idea that we are paranoid and that it was an abberation that we were attacked, we are only infringing on rights, waging war, and making people angry. The right (at least the administration) likes to be able to claim "it's working".
Unfortunately we suffered the anthrax attacks almost immediately after (and if it wasn't Atta's work, then the murderer is still at large, unless he accidently succumbed to his own weapon). And Charles Bishop/Bishra crashed a plane (and praised OBL) in Jan 2002. And we had the DC sniper duo, and the shoe bomber, and a mysterious plane crash on takeoff, and the LAX counter shooting...
How many other OU type local only stories have there been?
Ping to thread and note post 21
We don't know that they move forward. I know it does seem that way. But we don't know what is going on behind the scenes. There could be reasons.
I think there were a few dead from those attacks (over a couple weeks I think). Certainly nothing the left would shed tears over, they worked for the CIA, after all.
I won't be hard on her for forgetting, so much has been swept under the rug, it is difficult to try to recall all of it.
Nothing else I read or heard drew attention to this being the 5th anniversary of the USS Cole attack.
Will the US media note the passaing of the Beslan anniversary the way they did Columine?
I know we will at FR ;)
I'm sure the Fox Hole and Canteen will have nice tributes.
:)
saw this article on Michelle's website earlier today .....I try to get to her site every day .......lots of stuff you don't find elsewhere ..........I don't always agree with her,but more often than not ......BTW...didn't she report a while back that the cresent design at the memorial was killed?
But they keep us well informed that Islam is a 'religion of peace'. We hear that all the time.
You're correct about using Iraqi oil. At the outset of this war I believe it was Rumsfeld who stated that their oil would pay for our expenses incurred. I highly doubt it will ever happen. BTW-I thought prices at the gas pump were bad-we're going to get raped this winter on natural gas prices(50% higher than last winter I just heard on Fox). The balanced billing option with our power company looks like a damned good idea.
Bump for the morning.
Ping
Thanks for the ping!
MUST READ PING!
Thanks for the ping Julie! Glad to know Michelle Malkin isn't letting this one go! (o:
I won't be holding my breath while waiting for that to happen.
http://www.warriorsfortruth.com/islamicradicalnews.html
The Site above has the sad story of the Pakki sniper. I can't copy it due to the site's copy right requirements.
This *may* be the actual original article. Since it has no attribution, while the other says it's from wire reports?
http://www.10news.com/news/5072984/detail.html?rss=sand&psp=news
In any event, I can't find any follow up, maybe someone else can. If so, please ping me.
It's the same address so I think you found it! (o:
They were not tracking him -- don't know where that rumor got started but that is not factual. NPD didn't even get the paperwork to anyone that would have made a difference on the attempted buy of ammonium nitrate until AFTER the bomber blew up.
Can guarantee that our local FBI would never have been tracking a student from OU that lived with a Pakistani. That was never going to happen.
Is this part true then?
>>> identify who Hinrichs was, where he lived, who his roommate was, and then find where his roommate was in a matter of minutes.<<<<
That was only my guess from that statement.
Thanks for ping and BTTT.
She also didn't mention the Murrah building.
Thanks for bringing that up. That was the building where my mom works.
Bishara's father is Syrian. Local news reports brought this up, and after that, nothing.
