yep. I guess I transitioned from my senator bash to my arrogant liberal bash and got Dukakis in there by mistake. And I left out Mondale too.

No, just kidding with you. Didn't mean any harm. Age is a state of mind anyway, and I have some good taglines that could apply (see below).
You can ask Guennie, she'll tell you...... and once I start, I usually remember very well and will pop up on threads all over the place reminding you, all in jest of course.....

You know how it is, Ali. Both sides do it. They just can't share their information with the dim witted public. Why, we might panic. So instead of mobilizing the best resource they have, the public, they work clandestinely in their bureacracy and then wonder why something like 9-11 went undetected.

Not going to comment on 9/11 because it's so much more complicated than that.
But as for the recent events in NYC, somehow I don't believe for a New York Minute that it was a hoax, and that some guy in Iraq "made it up".
I know how many times the tiniest piece of information is checked, vetted against other pieces, checked again - in fact, everything is checked so many times, it's a miracle that there are ever any warnings at all - part of what happened with 9/11 is buried in what I just said.
If the Intel types only checked their information once or twice, and then had the courage to believe what they were looking at and IF all of the agencies were sharing information (dream world, I know), then we would have a much better chance of being ahead of the game as far as warning the public when something "might" happen.
Now, here's the rub.
You never know that if the information comes out that something is going to happen that the perps will change the date/time/place of said event because well, hey, the truth is now out of the bag. The element of surprise is gone.
If the public gets tired of warnings that never turn into dire events, then there is another problem. But I know for a fact that there have been events that were "supposed to happen" that didn't, simply because the Intel types let drop a significant piece of information to the press, in order to let the perps know that "we knew", and thus, it never happened. I hope that the HBM doesn't harp on those who drop these pieces of information so badly that they stop doing it because it sure has been an effective way of getting 'them' to stop planning on doing what they were planning on doing.
Man, I really hope I made sense. It's not easy to write this stuff without saying more than I'm supposed to say.

You did good. You come from a different perspective which you can't always share; I am not so inhibited. The point you make about the plans of bad guys being changed because the public was alerted is to me a good thing. Complacency shouldn't be as big a problem as in the past because folks have seen the saga of the two [that I know of] attempts on the Twin Towers and now have a better appreciation of the vicious enemy we face.
Cell phones, family and community networks of vigilant citizens are a powerful antidote to terrorism and a great resource for our government. And face it, if you are a person anywhere in this world, what would you choose; personal freedom or domination by vile people who will cut your throat or worse and follow the most evil of human practices.
The following phrase has never been more true:
"The cost of freedom is eternal vigilance."
