A Swedish man who donated sperm to a lesbian couple will have to pay child support, the Supreme Court has ruled.

The man, from Örebro, is biological father to three children with the couple. The Supreme Court has now confirmed rulings by two lower courts that he is liable to support them.

The 39-year old man donated his sperm to the lesbian couple at the beginning of the nineties. Three sons were born between 1992 and 1996.

The man claims that it was never intended that he should take reponsibility for the children, but rather that the women would be their parents and he would meet them occasionally.

Under pressure from the women he signed a document admitting paternity, and on this basis the court decided that he had the financial duties of a father.

One wonders why the lesbians would abandon their 3 male offspring.

This is much fairer then Judges ordering support payments to continue even after an alleged father is cleared by DNA tests.

this is so screwy! Defies rationale. Leave it up to a liberal court to see this reasoning.

There once was a gullible Swede
Who was asked by two dykes for his seed
Now a weird Swedish court
Makes him pay child support
He got screwed without doing the deed

The man’s main argument in the Supreme Court was that his admission of paternity was invalid as the mother had become pregnant through artificial insemination rather than through sexual intercourse.

He did not have sexual relations with that woman. It seems like I've heard that before and it apparently worked.

It's not "gynocracy", whatever that is, it's just screwed up people doing things the wrong way.

FWIW, people I know personally who did something like this had it backfire too, at least it backfired on some of the parties... after the baby was born, one of the women, the one who bore the child, decided she was in love with the father, leaving the other mom in the cold, so to speak. The twist is, since she had gone through legal adoption of the infant, the second mom is now paying child support to the two bio parents.

and that's all she wrote, so to speak. He should countersue for custody though :)

With the logic that this court used, one is liable for supporting anyone that receives one's blood that allows that person to live. Just think, you are responsible for supporting someone for life because they got your blood.

That was his mistake! When you donate your sperm give them the cup and walk away. This guy wanted visitation rights which is probably why he had to admit paternity. I don't feel sorry for him at all. If you want to visit your genetic offspring then take some responsibility.

No. The moral of the story is to never give any woman your sperm. And if recent court cases are any indication, don't have sex with them, either.

You'll end up paying just because you're an evil man.

All i wanted was equal treatment under the law which I did not get.

Child support case law (particularly in the People's Republic of Maryland) is not father friendly.
