Up the Creek: Out to Embarrass Bush Over Alleged Video Stunt, Today Gets Caught in Stunt of Its Own
In a deliciously ironic twist of fate, shortly before airing a segment aimed at embarrassing the Bush administration by suggesting that it had staged a video conversation between the president and soldiers in Iraq, the Today show was caught staging . . . a video stunt.
...
Today's timing couldn't have been worse. A preceding segment focused on the incessant rains and ensuing flooding in the northeast. For days now, beautiful, blonde - and one senses highly ambitious - young reporter Michelle Kosinski has been on the scene for Today in New Jersey, working the story. In an apparent effort to draw attention to herself, in yesterday's segment she turned up in hip waders, standing thigh-deep in the flood waters.
Taking her act one step further, this morning she appeared on a suburban street . . . paddling a canoe. There was one small problem. Just as the segment came on the air, two men waded in front of Kosinki . . . and the water barely covered their shoe tops! That's right, Kosinski's canoe was in no more than four to six inches of water!

The Today Show is the epitome of staged events and photo ops.

I hope somebody comes up with a better screen capture. I really want to laugh at her expression.

Makes you wonder for how long they've been doing things like this and getting away with it before there was the internet, blogs, and FR to call them on it.

Shades of albore in his canoe on the Connecticut River during a drought emergency. He convinced the powers that be to release desperately needed water for the photo op.

So, whats new. If you are aware of the industry, timelines, etc., almost all news broadcast are staged. It's just the way it is. Even reporters are basically selected to ask questions on most all interviews. Watch the hands and what is in them, a script of questions. Damn! Even the Democrats stage events on the Senate floor. Both sides do, but the CRATS are so predictable it is a joke.

I can tell you that during a hurricane watch in Corpus Christi (the hurricane actually hit far to the south, in Mexico), some newsies were taping while being "rained" on with a water hose off-camera. It was cloudy that day, but dry.

The funniest thing is that the dingbat just plows on ahead, talking about how it's difficult to control a canoe, even after the guys walk by her!

I saw this today also. Actually the Today Show made fun of themselves this morning by showing the footage again. They had just finished an interview with the mother of 17 kids and Al Roucker came on and Couric was standing there with him with the weather map in the background. Katie was acting like the weatherman and said she had not done that before and then they showed the video in the background of the canoe with the 2 men walking by and everyone laughed. It was pretty funny.

She doesn't even think to change her script and goes into how hard it is to paddle a canoe in waters like this.

I'll never forget catching CNN in a hotel room around 3/22/04 and the talking head was grilling Gov. Murkowski about off shore drilling he had just opened off of ANWR. All the while the grilling was going on CNN was showing pictures of bambi and beautiful Alaskan valleys and what not.
Only thing is, these pictures had to be several hundred miles south of ANWR. They sure were not pictures of ANWR which is arctic Alaska and its biome is tundra.
The propaganda emanating from our TV sets requires eternal vigilance to watch it and find any real truth from what is seen.

PS: it is so frustrating to hear Rush just this minute say he'd like to find examples of the media staging events. As others have mentioned, it would be great if someone could get the story to Ruh.
