China Says It Has "Better Vaccine" for "Bird Flu"

BEIJING, Oct 15 (Reuters) - China has developed a new and better vaccine for use on birds against the avian influenza strain that scientists fear could cause a global pandemic among humans, state media said on Saturday.

The vaccine had the advantage of fighting another common bird disease, as well as the H5N1 influenza strain that has spread from Asia to Europe, state television reported. It identified this as avulavirus APMV-1, also known as Newcastle disease.

Earlier this year, I voiced suspicion China was manipulating avian flu,and planned to create a worldwide pandemic...for which it would have the only vaccine.

I was called a nut by many; and some offered suggestions as to how to improve my tinfoil hat.

Others blustered to the effect China wouldn't DARE do such a thing: we would destroy her !

Sometimes I wonder if China may have created the bird flue. Or perhaps France. France is nasty. The KFC in Saigon (probably like many KFCs in Asia these days) is serving fish on the menu instead of chicken. Perhaps the French developed this Bird Flu so they could increase their chicken exports to Asia. Hey, it's a heck of a lot less far fetched as the "bombing of the levees in New Orleans".

Once the bird flu has left the chinese borders, they lose control of the situation. That is a single sick bird or person outside of china will have billions of live viruses inside, any of which can mutate to something china does not have a vaccine for.

In my other posts about avian flu, I've been saying that what we need is a vaccine for chickens and turkeys, not a vaccine for humans. My guess is that if this avian flu thing blows up in Bush's face, it will be because it destroys our poultry industry, not because it kills millions of people.

I don't think you can vaccinate the chickens because the vaccine costs a lot and a chicken costs about 2 dollars at wholesale. Several years ago, Hong Kong had a chicken problem and they killed every last chicken, about 20 million I believe, but it did not sink the economy because this was only about 20 million dollars.

It does seem somewhat impractical, but you've got to remember a couple things. First, the virus attacks humans by getting into the chickens. Second, the poultry industry is a multibillion dollar industry in the US. You're probably talking about 500,000 to a million jobs. And that doesn't consider the vast increase in food prices that would result.

Actually, the Chinese bird flue vaccine is an attenuated, live New Castle Disease virus (a paramyxovirus) frequently used to prevent New Castle disease in birds. That vaccine can be administeed in drinking water, aerosols and by injections. The bird flu is due to a myxovirus type A with hemaglutinin5(H5) and neuraminidase1(N1), 2 distinct proteins on the viral surface envolope. The immunization of the birds with New Castle Virus does not confer immunity against bird flu H5N1. The bird flu H5N1 is not danger for human unless the virus infect people and mutates - that is not very easy to happens. However there is a potential and a potential is a potential...

Let's just say that genefromjersey is right, and somehow, China has developed an actual vaccine for the human-to-human bird flu that threatens to encircle the globe.

I tell you right now that me and mine will take our chances with nature and with nature's God. NO vaccine developed by the Chinese to blackmail their way into world domination will EVER enter our bodies.

I have heard that China has gone to a kinder, gentler coercion in such cases. For a steep fee, they will permit additional children to the initial one. Otherwise it's still abortion millsville.
