Listening to Toledo PD right now....400+ crowd involved...will keep you all updated.

So far one officer casualty earlier....took a rock in the head. Many damaged police vehicles.

DAMN...I completely forgot about this today...

Not every day you get a chance to throw rocks at Nazi's...

Sad reality is...the nazi's got more police protection than the people in the neighborhood they came to march in...

Throwing rocks is so stupid.

Take that crowd and have everyone LAUGH. Hundreds of people laughing at the nazis. On TV. Point and laugh and mock. Holding signs of Hitler taking it from the rear by a giant black man (head pasted on of black American gold medalist from Olympics held in Germany). Hitler in a pink dress.

Laughter will kill their cause. They are all small people.

Nothing really started happening til after a while into and after the march....the nazis themselves have pretty much left as far as I can gather. There weren't many of them -- 25 or so.

Would Toledo have given a permit to the KKK?

Heckler's veto is alive and well in the "free speech" nation. Regardless of their message, this march must be rescheduled and allowed to proceed. It's their constitutional right. The protesters need to be arrested and charged with civil rights violations.

Perhaps -- there was supposed to be a counterprotest but the situation has descended into riot more or less. Toledo PD is calling back some 911 callers in the area and are informing them they are on their own. Situation is not under control.

I'm assuming you are just trying to be funny. Ha Ha. Otherwise, I beg to differ. Nazis, lesbians, "peace-nicks", heck, even "boys who want to have sex with poodles" have a right to protest in this country without the threat of violence. If it were a legal protest, you or anyone else who wanted to "throw rocks" are wrong. These groups are extreme and can only be laughed at by the rest of us. Let them have their 15 minutes. Then they just might go away. :)

Toledo groups plan rally to counter neo-Nazi march 10/9/2005, 1:29 p.m. ET The Associated Press

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Twenty educational, religious and community groups have organized a rally they hope will take the steam out of a neo-Nazi march through a north Toledo neighborhood. The Erase the Hate event on Saturday will counter a National Socialist Movement march scheduled for the same day. Members of the neo-Nazi group planned their march through a neighborhood they say has been beset by gang violence that threatens white residents. "We believe the Nazi group does not represent anyone in this community," neighborhood resident Tina Gott said. "We will stand against this Nazi rally, and we are asking people not to go to their event."

The unity rally will give residents and community leaders a chance to change minds about the neighborhood, said Terry Glazer, head of Lagrange Development Corp., a group that promotes economic and ethnic diversity in the area.

The leader of the National Socialist Movement's chapter in Roanoke, Va., said the rally won't sway the movement's support base.

"We stated repeatedly ... that the local blacks and their political leaders are a bunch of loudmouthed cowards, and that we expect that, when confronted with their criminal behavior by strong and organized white people, would run, hide, and whine. And it appears that is exactly what is happening," Bill White said in a statement.

City officials have urged the neighborhood residents to ignore the march, which White said will last about an hour.

But the Rev. Mansour Bey of Toledo's First Church of God said that would tell hate groups that their protests don't bother the city.

"Sure, there will be police protection, but what about moral support?" he asked. "Toledo is not a magnet for these hate groups. Toledo is a place where we love and respect."

Officials in Lincoln, Neb., countered a similar rally last year with a diversity rally.

About 50 members of the National Socialist Movement rallied on the Capitol steps while some 1,200 people celebrated at a park more than four miles away.

The senior center where the Toledo unity rally will be held is less than a mile from the planned march.

A white resident's complaints to police about gang violence in the neighborhood got the movement interested in Toledo, White said.

The neighbor, Thomas Szych, has said he did not solicit the group's support, and he doesn't expect its march will alleviate the racial tensions. ___

Absolutely. I want to know how many of the rock throwers were also the ones who show up with the "we support the troops when they kill their officers" banners at "peace rallies"...and would scream to high heaven about their own free speech rights being violated, if looked at with an 'agressive' eye roll.

I'd also rather have them all in the open, so we can point and laugh.

Yup, definitely worthy of getting my knickers in a wad. We should protect the right of animals that espouse genocide, that deny the genocide of the Holocaust, that idolize Adolph Hitler. We should definitely become terribly upset because someone takes issue with the fact that animals who advocate mass-murder should be given a platform.

Freedom of speech? To promote hatred and murder? Sorry, there is always a line that cannot and should not be crossed.

right to protest in this country without the threat of violence.

There aren't many folks around, these days, that recognize the importance of freedom of speech. When such freedoms are denied to one group, whatever their merit or lack thereof, then the right is diminished. That's too high a price to pay.

How often we forget key constitutional issues due to the passions of the moment!

These particular Nazis and the LLL rioters who opposed them obviously have not gotten the word about the coming thing in radical protest: the Red-Brown alliance. Just as David Duke went out of his way to show solidarity with Mama Moonbat Sheehan, the LLL vermin and Nazi vermin would have marched shoulder to shoulder if this had been a an anti-war demonstration or an attack on administration policy.
Throw in a few Islamic students and dreadlocked Mumia-cong, and you have a perfect storm of evil and drooling stupidity.
All the destructive, crazy, psychotic forces in the world seem to be concentrating on the same side of a variety of issues. Let it be so, a target-rich environment for the coming showdown.

Would Toledo have given a permit to the KKK?

Apparently, this group is KKK with a new name. Toledo has no choice but to allow them to assemble. The constitution guarantees them this right.

The "protestors" were Black Panthers and Anarchists. Looks like Toledo is in for some rocky times.

Opposition Planned to Neo-Nazi March in Toledo

On Saturday October 15th, the National Socialist Movement - better known as America's Nazi Party - has announced that they will be marching through North Toledo to "protest black crime." The march route they have chosen takes them directly through a predominantly African-American and Polish community, where residents are preparing to oppose these fascists.

Anti-fascists from the Midwest are planning to join local residents in protesting against this neo-Nazi invasion of a Toldeo neighborhood. A counter-demonstration has been called for 8:30AM at Manhattan Plaza (near Manhattan and Stickney Avenues in the North End). Local anti-fas have received word that they will be joined by members of Anti-Racist Action and other organizations from all over the country.

Organizers of "Erase the Hate", a collaborative effort of 20 area educational, religious, and community organizations, are hoping for public support for their event--a counter-rally some distance for the neo-nazi march. It will be held at noon on Oct. 15 at the Zablocki Senior Center on Lagrange Street.

While it may appear that the NSM is just a fringe group, and that it is not worthwhile to oppose such a group, it is important to note that there is currently a power vacuum in the white power movement. With Matt Hale, the leader of the World Church of the Creator in jail, and the death of William Pierce, the founder and head of the National Alliance, other fascists are feeling lost without any strong leadership. Other white power organizations like the NSM realize that this power vacuum exists and are attempting to fill it. It is for this reason that the NSM will attract fascists of all stripes – in numbers – to their demonstration in Toledo. Neo-Nazis are currently seeking organization, structure, and public organizing – all of which they will be looking to the NSM for on October 15th.

For this reason alone, it is important that anti-fascists show opposition in Toledo. This is not a time that we can we can sit back and ignore the organizing fascists are currently engaging in. We CANNOT give the neo-Nazis any room to organize and recruit. We must not allow the existing power vacuum to be filled. We must be there on October 15th in Toledo to take away any illusion of organization and power the NSM is trying to present. We must stand up and join together, sending a clear message that such activity is not welcome in our communities.

For more information, see One People's Project
For a more humourous take on this event, see Toledo Tales
There is always more to the story than the press ever bothers to share, investigate or understand. A classic example of one hate group clashing with another.
