Mel's Passion--to Be Wrong
US News- Washington Whispers ^ | 10/24/05 | Paul Bedard

The man who brought religion to the big screen with The Passion of the Christ, Mel Gibson, is jumping back into the fray with his first-ever book endorsement, we hear. Friends say he's promoting the new book The Right to Be Wrong: Ending the Culture War Over Religion in America. The basic premise: When it comes to dealing with religion in public, you don't have to be right. In an E-mail provided to Whispers from the Becket Fund, a religious liberties legal group, Gibson says, "Making The Passion of the Christ taught me many things. One was just how scared some Americans are of religion in public. The Right to Be Wrong explains why they are scared and why they don't have to be."

I have a huge amount of respect for Mr. Gibson. He took an incredible amount of slings, arrows and mud from groups of every stripe opposed to "The Passion of the Christ" and, at the end of the day, it became one of the greatest epic movies of recent time - all beacuse it was based on truth - and substantiated by the Bible. If course it did. Look what it was based on. The holy Word of God. How could that ever fail??

Yup. He does it for my Baptist wife as well.

As long as he never shows up on our doorstep, I guess my marriage is safe.

America is not suffering from too much religion and there is certainly little danger of it.

What non-believers fear the most is Christ asking people to stand before a mirror to examine themselves.

Try telling someone, "I hope you get everything you deserve."

People don't like the ramifications of that statement knowing most of us have an immense fear of getting what we truly deserve.

My dear grandmother told me that even when you are on a diet, you can read the menu. Your wife wouldn't take even Mel over you. But she sure would take a long look at the menu! I would!
