Bill Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard, said he expects indictments this week in the CIA leak case involving White House advisers Karl Rove and Scooter Libby.
Kristol said "the mood is bleak in the White House today, and said the environment surrounding the federal grand jury testimony is "pretty grim. Although the indictments may not ultimately result in anything substantive, Kristol said there is a pins-and-needles feel to the grand jury investigation into the leaking of a CIA agent's name to the media in 2003.
"The net has been cast wide, Kristol told Fox News Tuesday. "Lots of junior aides have testified. Its been a very comprehensive investigation by the prosecutor. I think there will be indictments and the mood is pretty bleak in the White House.
As for what this means for President Bush and the daily working of the White House, Kristol said it is too early to tell.
"The White House has to ask, How do we segregate this? This is a problem, but the legal system has to run its course.
"Meanwhile, Kristol said, "the president has to take the initiative on foreign policy and economic policy and sort of set this aside.
How does Kristol know? Sources? Why would anyone in the White House leak to him? He doesn't have their best interests at heart.
He sounds like Saul Rosenberg from the Jerky Boys CD's.
The real question is whether or not Bill will bring all his shoes and glasses?
What is this man's problem? I haven't seen ANYTHING coming out of Fitzgerald's office, does he have some secret direct line?
Bill Kristol, the sunshine patriot. All for the War in Iraq, but just not in agreement with HOW the War is being run. OK Bill, just relax and take a deep breath.
LOL!
[pump, pump, pump, pump...]
Perhaps the messenger shouldn't be shot until we find out whether or not his message is in error.
Wonder how Bill Kristol enjoys being in bed with Pat Buchanan? I know politics makes for strange bedfellow but the most rabid Neo-Con holding hands with the Most Rabid Paleo-Con?
It's all gonna trace back to Joe "I'm a victim, really" Wilson.
kristolnacht is a flaming rino and even worse, in mcpain's back pocket. This semi-liberal POS has done everything he can to throw dirt on the White House. He knows nothing.
Kristol wishes. He wishes he had more influence with the american public than he does.
Mood is bleak you say? Geeeee...I guess this means he (Bush) won't get reelected...ahhhh...yeah...
We don't need to wait. We know the messager. Sorry the reality doesn't match little Billy's and your hopes
True enough, but honestly if you were under investigation and waiting to find out if you were going to be indicted, would you be in a hap happ happy mood? Kristol reporting that the mood is bleak is like saying that the sky is cloudy when it is raining.
[cue the Odd Couple theme]
Im getting a little tired of Kristol..
Kristol's simply beating the newest Dem Strategy Drum as reported minutes ago in the Am. Spect. re: The Whitehouse is in the Tank for '06... more "wishful thinking " by the hopelessly lost Dem so-called strategists.
I must admit this is getting better almost daily. Three years ago, when Kristol and his buddies were advocating the police action in Iraq, they could do no wrong. Now the same men who cheered for the administration dare to question it and they're thrown under the bus with namecalling.
Makes no difference to me, never liked Kristol and the cheerleaders. I just find it amusing
Oh yeah, Kristol has great WH sources. He's one of their biggest friends, trusted by all, unquestionable loyalty. Sheesh....
That's where my money's on.
I thought homo's were suppose to be gay?
Sounds like a fishing expedition to me. I think the prosecutor is trying to find something, somewhere, but has come up empty. If he had anything, there would be focused testimony. I think no indictments are forthcoming.
"Politics doesn't make for strange bedfellows...marriage does." -Groucho Marx
As for Bill Kristol, see my tag line.
He is?
I would prefer he hold it...there's enough hot air from his direction.
Wasn't there a story about Regan that when the liberals were all mad that his comment was: "I wonder what is bothering them?"
Are you confusing Kristol with Andrew Sullivan?
Now they are tossing Hannah's name into the mix . . . who next? Every day they have a new suspect; makes me think they know nothing.
The Weekly Standard has some writers I admire. Kristol isn't one of them.
Raw Story????
My dead dog is more welcome in the White House than the perfumed prancing prince Ballless Krystal. My dog died 15 years ago.
This sounds like the wet dreams that the gay writers for the NY/LA Slimes put out about GW for 5 years.
Krystal would be lucky to have the White House Rotor Rooter guy share his opionions with this worthless POS.
Bill Kristol was anything but universally admired on this website. To suggest the he "could do no wrong" is a stretch.
Hey, Billy thinks he was responsible for Bush ouusting Saddam still. He's part of the WH team. /sarc
I'm thinking Bush needs a call from Frank Rizzo to set him straight on this whole Miers.
Thanks for the Jerky Boys flashback, even though we're probably on different pages with this SCOTUS thing.
Humor, folks. Humor.
Excellent!!!
Kristol is rather myopic.
No, Kristol has the best interest of the UNITED STATES at heart.
Because Kristol has voiced vehement dissent against the nomination of Harriet Miers, and has disagreed with the Whitehouse on other issues, does not mean he wants to see the Bush Administration go down. BTW, there has also been times he has roundly supported them.
Like I said, the source is obviously questionable. Its just what I've managed to dig up online - I'm not saying I believe it. This whole thing should sort itself out very soon, now.
I listen to him on Fox News sometimes. He is humorless and silly at the same time.
this is a very funny thread. carry on.
Huh?
Kristol wishes......
He also wishes he had some influence in the WhiteHouse. Apparently it didn't occur to him that his insider might be leading him astray. What goes around comes around.
He also wishes he were really relevant. Truth is, he is not really required.
If fitzgerald was going to indict Wednesday, would he not have already issued 'target' letters to those to be indicted?
That certainly would have leaked.
