Update from BBC News World Edition:
Saddam trial lawyer taken hostage
October 20, 2005
Gunmen have kidnapped one of the lawyers involved in the trial of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. Sadoun Nasouaf al-Janavi was taken from his office in eastern Baghdad.
He is acting for one of Saddam Hussein's co-defendants, Awad Hamed al-Bandar. One report said seven other people were seized at the same time.
In a defiant appearance at his trial on Wednesday, Saddam Hussein pleaded not guilty to charges over the killing of 148 people in a Shia town in 1982.
He refused to confirm his identity, telling the presiding judge: "Who are you? What is all this?"
All eight defendants pleaded not guilty to charges of ordering the killing of 148 Shia men in 1982. If convicted, they could face the death penalty. The trial was adjourned until 28 November.

Maybe he had him kidnapped to delay his trial. Or extremist behead the guy . I think if the Iraqis had found Saddam, we wouldn't be going through this American Like Judical system. He would have suffered the same fate as his sons.

Wasn't one of the Guardian's (anti-war leftist fishwrap)kidnapped recently?? Now this.... maybe some Iraqis are simply tired of the terrorists' apologists and abettors??? Or maybe just some professional, nonpartisan enterprising thugs at work??

Could also be a Saddam opponent who has a personal score to settle with this attorney.
I'm sure plenty of prominent Ba'athists have just "disappeared" in the same way that plenty of prominent Nazi collaborators disappeared in France after the liberation.
