Russia to launch Iran's first satellite

Sat Oct 22, 9:49 AM ET

Russia will put Iran's first ever satellite into space next week, with the device described as being for telecommunications and research on natural disasters.

Quoted by the Kayhan newspaper, Iran's embassy in Moscow said the "Sina" satellite would be launched from the Plesetsk launch site on Thursday along with three other devices from Russia, China and Britain.

Iranian officials have repeatedly said they were on the verge of seeing their first satellite launched.

In July, former deputy communications minister Hassan Shafti said a telecommunications satellite codenamed "Mesbah" (Lantern) would be launched this year.

He said that out of five Iranian satellites planned for construction, three are to be launched over the next three years.

Iran has been making continued progress in ballistics, a source of concern in the West along with the country's nuclear programme.

I am sure Iran's military communication will vastly improve. They may also have recon hardware on board or it would be on their next satellite.

Here is the July 21 article on Iran's space program.

Iran To Launch First Space Satellite In 2006

Tehran (AFP) Jul 21, 2005

Iran intends to launch its first satellite into space in 2006, and its sole purpose is to be for telecommunications, Iranian newspapers reported Thursday. "This is the first telecommunications satellite, code-named Mesbah (Lantern), to be launched this year, among the five approved to be built," Deputy Communication Minister Hasan Shafti was quoted as saying.

"This satellite was designed and built with Italian cooperation," he added.

It was to orbit at an altitude of 900 kilometers (about 560 miles).

The launch of the 60 kilogram (132 pounds) cube-shaped Mesbah satellite was delayed.

Iranian officials had said in September 2004 that it would launch in April 2005, but now they say it will launch by the end of the current Iranian year, ending March 2006.

Press reports in 2004 had said: "The satellite will be used to identify natural resources, control the electrical and energy network (gas and oil), and later on can be used by communications and crisis management."

Shafti said that out of the five satellites planned for construction, three will be launched into space over the next three years.

The second Iranian satellite is multipurpose and bigger than Mesbah, and is to be built by Iran, China and Thailand, he said.

"The third one, code-named Zohre (Venus), is the biggest national telecommunications satellite and it will be built with Russian cooperation in three years time," Shafti added.

Now all we need to develop is a lard-filled asat weapon.

Okay, so I'm reading "The Ezeikial(sp) Option" By Joel C. Rosenberg. This story has me quaking in my boots and makes me want to call JCR for more of his (amazing) predictions. He's the author of "The Last Jihad" and "The Last Days" Clancy has NOTHING on this guy.

True. This news is more scary than the Atom Bomb news. If we don't take on Iran right now we will live to regret it. Iran has the ability to build that Muslim empire they dream about, if left alone. These are perilous times for America.

re :Iran has the ability to build that Muslim empire they dream about, if left alone.

And who will actually build this Muslim empire.

Iran has a lot of internal problems, there is a real threat of revolution from below and a real fear of civil war.

Iran is spending most of her military resources keeping her own people in line.

There is a brain and technocrat drain as more Iranians with the necessary skills needed to build a country leave. The country itself has a aging infrastructure close to collapse

During the Cold War there was a real threat from the USSR, but that country and system collapsed because dictatorships by there very nature are prone to self destruction.

Most ordinary Iranians time is taken up just trying to survive, rather than have a taste for foreign adventure

Well, thank you for a more optimistic look at the situation. I guess I'm thinking that Iran will be the leadership/money/training, not to mention atomic weapons and now satellites, for the terrorists in all the other muslim countries. I hope you are right, that they don't have that kind of leadership, but that young terrorist they just elected looks an awful lot like a young Saddam Hussein.

This satellite has nothing to do with guidance systems for ICBMs.

I haven't read any of this work, but I have read the biblical prophecy about Gog & Megog in Ezekial.

It doesn't count as a national satellite unless they use their own rocket they built from junkyard parts. That's the rule. International law.

Building a satellite is something that the EE Dept of any major university can do. That means nothing. The important part is the rocket. If they have a rocket of their own that can launch a satellite, not just some rental from a real space-faring country, then they can claim the ICBM. The satellite could be a bag of rocks for all anybody cares.

I haven't read any of this work, but I have read the biblical prophecy about Gog & Megog in Ezekial.

There is only one "outdated" lexicon which interprets Gog as Russia, and that is Gesenius.

Some have interpreted the Hebrew word 'rosh' in Ezekiel 38:3, which is translated 'chief', to be a reference to Russia. In the Massoretic text the words 'chief prince' carry the accents Tiphha and Zaqeph-gadol.

The Tiphha appears under the resh of the Hebrew word 'rosh'; the Zaqeph-gadol appears on top of the sin of the Hebrew word 'nish'.

The Tiphha to the right, underneath the initial consonant of the word 'rosh', or chief, is prepositive and does not mark the tone syllable. See Kautsch and Cowley's *Grammar*, page 61 item 9.

The word 'nish' or prince has the accent Zaqeph-gadol which is disjunctive and indicates a pause. See Kautsch and Cowley's *Grammar*, page 60 item 4b.

So Ezekiel 38:3 should be read as follows: "Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the prince, {pause} chief of Meshech and Tubal:" Rosh is not Russia.

I remember seeing a show about Nostradamus in the late 1970's. His predictions about Iran are now starting to be eerily accurate.

Based on biblical prophecy and world events, I see a WWIII scenerio developing between 2012-2015. The axis would be China, Russia, North Korea, Iran & Pakistan for the major foes. The sequence of events would start with North Korea attacking South Korea, then a few months later China attacking Taiwan. Taiwan would be bait for the USA to have it's carrier fleet vaporized when we try to intervene. Russia and China would launch a first strike nuke attack on the USA after our naval fleet is crippled. It is at this time that Iran and Russia will attack Israel, when we are least able to support them. Israel will use her Sampson option and repell the invading hoardes.

Russia will conquer all of Europe and China the rest of Asia. Russia will control our country temporarily with it's air force and remaining nuclear force. China will turn on Russia during the latter part of the war which will ultimately allow us to regroup after a few years and defeat this foe.
