Not sure what has happened yet. But there appears to have been a very large explosion in Choctaw, OK. Choctaw is just East of OKC and NE of Norman.
Define "very large."
Oh crap. Near Norman you say?
Any refineries or chemical plants? Compressed gas storage facilities?
Gotta assume industrial accident unless evidence points to something else.
Well we know it can't be terrorism.
Great minds...
bump for future reference.
The FBI has already faxed the press release to the MSM.
I have a LARGE blister on my big toe.
The explosion was heard in West Norman which is about 12-15 miles away.
Ping
As per what source?
$hit happens.....
From another board...
"Channel 5 in OKC interviewed a man who said he called police after he heard a very loud explosion. He said that after the explosion the smell of burnt gun powder hung heavy in the air.
Police have apparently cordon off an area at or near the Indian Meridian School in the Choctaw area.
More details will follow after the football game"
Another football game? Can anyone say soft targets?

Yah... well known big Al Queda target: Choctaw.
I'm sure they've been dreaming of this for years.
Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge.
And how much have you heard of Beslan, until the terrorists decided to take school kids hostage?
Indian Meridian Elementary School
Grades: K-3
Type: public
Enrollment: 470
1865 S. Indian Meridian
Choctaw, OK 73020
Oklahoma County

Well the beauty of such a strike is the "Why there, and why not here?" of the matter. Plus the effectiveness of cells in the structure of a organization like Al Qaeda is that they can focus on such areas on a wider terror plan. Not saying this was terrorism, but not a suprise if so.
...pass the bisbuits, please....
My son went to school there in kindergarten. At that time (18 yrs ago), there wasn't much around it.
If it smells like gun powder I'm betting someone dropped a lit cig in the box of post-game fireworks. No modern explosive used blasting pros smells like gunpowder.
It's, what, Midnight there? I don't think there are many kids at the Elementary School.
Now, if it's a High School, I suppose there might be a dance or something, I don't know.
Meant to say...
...pass the biscuits, please....
the footbal game in reference was tonight's NFL game, not an OU game.
Sorry folks, I just have a touch of gas. There may be a few more explosions before the night is through.
I wish the op had said as much...
Does nothing to my original point that no explosive in commercial or terrorist useage smalls like gunpowder.
Come to think of it even gun powder does not smell like gun powder any more...
You never had a lick of sense!
Sounds like there might be less now.

Is there any EAS/EBS information, or a local link. AM radio, or local TV.
These are not the explosions you are looking for.
Thanks for putting this up...
I'm sure it's just another "isolated incident"... < /sarcasm >
Indcons: Please ping the OU list... I tried to remember a bunch of people, but probably forgot some - my apologies...
Maybe so. Maybe not.
In Oklahoma? Shirley you jest?

Make that a KABOOM for future reference
Hello Arw3a.
That link needs registration.
Could you tell me what the local news url would be?

Did you hear about Billie Jo McAllister?
Nothing on Channel 9 yet ( http://www.newsok.com )
Still checking other local links...
This is what I know:
At about 10:10 CST there was an explosion that was heard in Norman. Channel 5, out of OKC, broke into the MNF game around 10:30 and reported that an explosion had happened in Choctaw. They followed-up after the game and reported the gunpowder smell and the elemtary school. There is nothing on either Channel 5's or 9's websites about the incident so I can't offer anything further. This is all I know.
