British banks are banning piggy banks because they may offend some Muslims.
Halifax and NatWest banks have led the move to scrap the time-honoured symbol of saving from being given to children or used in their advertising, the Daily Express/Daily Star group reports here.
Muslims do not eat pork, as Islamic culture deems the pig to be an impure animal.
Salim Mulla, secretary of the Lancashire Council of Mosques, backed the bank move.
"This is a sensitive issue and I think the banks are simply being courteous to their customers," he said.
However, the move brought accusations of political correctness gone mad from critics.
"The next thing we will be banning Christmas trees and cribs and the logical result of that process is a bland uniformity," the Dean of Blackburn, Reverend Christopher Armstrong, said.
"We should learn to celebrate our difference, not be fearful of them."
Khalid Mahmoud, the Labour MP for a Birmingham seat and one of four Muslim MPs in Britain, also criticised the piggy-bank ban.
"We live in a multicultural society and the traditions and symbols of one community should not be obliterated just to accommodate another," Mr Mahmoud said.
"I doubt many Muslims would be seriously offended by piggy banks."
Amen to that. I agree.

As someone who until recently lived near Birmingham, Britain's second largest city with an asian population approaching 10% I feel qualified to comment. Firstly, this decision was made by a bank, not by anyone elected. Secondly, I have several muslim friends and have done lots of business with asian owned enterprises over the years and to a man they find this kind of nonsense ridiculous - they are not offended by piggy banks! What must be remembered is that 3% of the UK is muslim and that 1% of them are trouble-makers, the rest just want to get on and make money, the reason they came here in the first place. I am no muslim apologist,but lets get some perspective on this - there are nutters out there who need culling, but if we treat all British muslims as 2nd class UK citizens, then we deserve to reap what we sow.
None of this surprises me. When are people going to wake up and admit that Islam doesn't want to coexist peacefully but rather wants to dominate?

Islam is not a religion of peace; it never was and never will be. It is a fascist retrograde ideology masquerading (poorly I might add) as a religion; making it far more dangerous and destructive than all previous fascist ideologies.
The ONLY way to defeat Islam is to destroy it. Like all falsehoods, it cannot stand up to truth and reason. It needs to be shown for what it truly is…as cult of death and slavery of the mind. Islam must be humiliated, universally condemned and destroyed as was Nazism.
Furthermore, I’m sick and tired of all the crybabies out there who think that losing 2000 soldiers in Iraq is too many. While I feel saddened by any loss of life, we haven’t even begun to fight the REAL war yet. Islam is on the march all over the globe bringing death and destruction, nowhere is it sowing peace. The USA is not strong enough to stop it with military might alone and our PC leftist media, judiciary and politicians are preventing us from waging the ideological war we need to wage in order to win.
It’s time to throw down the gloves, break free from the shackles and fight this thing with all our strength. Otherwise, I fear it will take a BIG moment such as a nuked US city or two to finally drive the point home. We are witnessing WWIII and there is no way to stop it now. How many innocent people need to die before we take this fight seriously? One…two million? How many people need to die because middle-east oil has our country’s nuts in a vice?
The sad thing is that all our weakness is coming from home. The socialist left, the PC ignoramuses and tree hugging dopes are fighting for our enemies. What we need is to develop alternate fuels here at home, start drilling for oil in the Gulf and ANWAR, and another ‘Manhattan Project’ to develop advanced power technologies like fusion and zero point to free us from the tyranny of fossil fuels that are financing our enemies. Only then can we fight this thing for real.

Things like this make me mad against Muslims. They can't tolerate anything and get offended pretty easily. Sounds like these mental cases should take it easy.
