CA: Simon out of treasurer's race
Sac Bee Insider Web Log ^ | 10/25/05 | Daniel Weintraub

Bill Simon, the investor and philanthropist who was the Republican nominee against Gray Davis in 2002, has sent a letter to supporters informing them that he won’t be a candidate for state treasurer next year as he had planned.

In the letter, Simon cites the oft-used “personal” reasons for backing out, saying he wants to spend more time with his family. But this is one case where that might actually be true. Simon has confided in friends in recent months that the unanticipated pressures involved in caring for their developmentally disabled 17-year-old son have been all-consuming for him and his wife, Cindy. Still, Simon says he hopes to run again for public office again in the future.

I am very sorry to hear that. I think the Treasurer's office would have been a great position for him, and vice versa.

Time for Tom Campbell to run, perhaps.

Not sure if he would be interested in it tho.

I would move back to Cali if I was able to vote for Boxer as treasurer. Think about it, the country would be better off

Nyaahhh,, Lt Gub, even if its mostly ceremonial, is a better slot. but who knows. Sometimes, things can happen suddenly in Sacramento.

I think being a treasurer would give Tom McC a better springboard, because he could actually show accomplishments and fiscal responsibily.

As if his existing experience had not already demonstrated such "accomplishments."

Anything for a demotion, eh FO?

So a treasurer's job is good enough for Bill Simon, but not for Tom McClintock?

I thought you said that Tom sold out to the RINO-s for political reasons.

Contrary to what many people think, Cali went from being a swing state to a Dem state NOT because of an increase in Hispanic voters (they have been slow to register and have low turnouts), but because of an outflow of conservative whites. That leaves white liberals, Asians (who lean Democratic), Hispanics and blacks, with white liberals still calling the shots more or less.

Give me a break. The governor's office was a gimme for him and he found a way to throw it away. His incompetence forced the People of CA to run a recall! He's a boob and should never, ever hold high office.

Do you think BS would be great as our Treasurer just coz daddy was Secretary of the Treasury under Nixon & Ford?

Tom's running for Lt. Governor the last I'd heard. That's fine by me although I don't know just what that office's holder can actually accomplish.

I'd vote for him for Lt. Gov. Or perhaps Treasurer if he's the most qualified in the GOP primary.

Some people can be great treasurers, but lousy politicians.

Simon should never have been the R nominee for governor, he has zero chance of winning.

But in any case, he is not running for treasurer either anymore.

Considering that Bill Simon has never held elective office, yes.

I thought you said that Tom sold out to the RINO-s for political reasons.

Well you go find where I said that while I get some sleep.

...because of an outflow of conservative whites.

Pretty much. That's why San Diego city itself is moving more and more Democrat while the *county* continues to overall tip Republican.

The Dems depend on making cities into unlivable areas to concentrate their power by driving the more conservative and traditional types away. They do it through taxation and social policies. By changing the make-up of the city and pandering to the new "left behind" demographics. Join our socialist utopian metropolis where you don't even have to learn English because we'll accommodate you, you don't have to get an education because it's not your fault we can't spend $100K per student, etc. And then they demonize Republicans (or racism, or big business, or the rich, or big oil, etc.) with the usual class warfare, race-card, hate-filled victim-mentality pandering and the city turns to CRAP. Look at most of the largest cities in the North East or Upper Mid-West. Or L.A. Who runs them, what's their economic situation, how much power do the municipal unions have?

What we desperately need to find is an Attorney General candidate to get behind. It's a very important office that we can't just write-off.

I think ol' Jerry Brown is running for A.G. oddly enough.

We have Chuck Poochigian running for AG.

For Treasurer, there's Claude Parrish or RINO Keith Richman.

For Controller, we have Tony Strickland as the best choice (over Abel Maldonado).

For Insurance Commissioner, we have either Phil Kurzner or Gary Mendoza (or RINO of RINOs Steve "I supported the Gore recount" Poizner).
