To all of you who believe that any Iranian actions would be short lived,

I thought about that, too, and believe me, I hope that you are right. The thing that gives me pause is the war game scenario in the Gulf in which the military officer commanding the defending forces did serious damage to the invaders with extremely creative, low-tech methods.

I don't think that the Iranians are stupid, and you can be sure that their best minds have been working on this for years. I think that they could cause many more problems than currently contemplated, although I believe that we will prevail in the end.

I also wonder whether such an attack would ignite Shiite Arabs living in the oil producing regions of Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to sabotage on the oil fields and processing areas.

If we should take Syria, we might be able to begin rejuvenating pipelines to Israel and to the Mediterranean through Syria. There might also be the possibility of vehicular transport of crude or refined products. That is if sabotage could be curtailed.

There are many, many variables here, and I believe that the U.S. must contemplate all scenarios.

Do the Iranians really have that much control over prices?

They have the second largest oil reserves in the world.

but make no mistake that at the very least Russia will help ensure it ...

Insightful. The role of Russia has been forgotten by most commentators, but they have strategic interests in the region - always did.

In an invasion scenario this woul be a very short term threat.

Even in a bombing campaign scenario, the Sunburns, or at least their targeting systems, wouldn't last long either. Even a guy in fishing boat with a radio to call in the targets is not going to be there for long.

Of marginally more concern would be the Kilo subs the Iranians got from the Russians. It's not a good area for sub hunting, especially diesel electrics on batteries... but then they have to come up before long, at least to snort their diesels to recharge those batteries, and when they do, Orion will be waiting.

We have been planning the invasion of Iran ever since the Shah was kicked out in the Carter years, probably before that.

The voice of the Teheran gov't may be right on this one - $ 150/barrel oil. What they don't seem to realize is that's because their oil along with their country might be glowing for 150 yrs. since we're a bit shorthanded when it comes to putting boots on the ground and would be forced to use what's left in the inventory.

"Hmm...$150/gal to drop the hammer on a few of those arrogant SOB's? There must be a negative side to this..."

A free Iraqi people, like America who gave them their freedom, has a responsibility to support an Iranian revolution.
Not even Tom Clancy could have envisioned American, Isralie and Iraqi jets bombing the crap out of Iran.

Precisely, they won't be selling much oil will they? Fortuntely because of our President, we own a country in the Middle East, we are Iran's neighbors and we own an oil rich country.

Like your handle!

Don't you think this is the kind of crappola were gonna continue to get from Iran for being so tender and kind to Iraq and staying so far away from outright taking enough oil to actually finance their liberation from a tyrant???

I mean Iran has been sticken their oily finger in our eye ever since Jimmy Carter floundered and fumbled everything to do with the middle east... geeze!!! This is getting really and disgustingly serious!!! Something is going to have to be DONE that supercedes endless, useless and dishonest diplomacy!!!

Iran is one country where I wouldn't mind us going in, cleaning out and using their oil fields to pay ourselves back.

Another thing is Libyias production is about
to dramatically ramp up, now that it is free
to buy new equipment, enter into deals with big
oil companies, develop their oil fields, many
who have lain undeveloped since the 80's...
