Why chest compressions for 40 minutes? Was there no EMT service available? No defibrillator?

Good question. In a young, healthy person who has suffered an electrical shock or lightning strike injury, resuscitation efforts should continue longer than 40 minutes and include plenty of attempts to defibrillate. People have been revived without permanent damage 2 or 3 hours after such an injury, if they received proper care.

Something is wrong with this story. I would have thought that they would all have dropped to their knees and prayed. No mention that.

they just probably kept doing the resuscitation for 40 minutes... it was a "witnessed" arrest. The thing that folks don't realize is a lot of times with electricity, an area of the brain that controls that breathing is affected for longer than the cardiac muscle... that's why you keep plugging away with electrical injuries..... or so I've heard.
