They Said It!: Sens. Ted Kennedy (D-MA), Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), And Former Sen. Bill Bradley (D-NJ) On Samuel Alito
(title shortened for length)
SEN. TED KENNEDY (D-MA): You Have Obviously Had A Very Distinguished Record, And I Certainly Commend You For Long Service In The Public Interest. I Think It Is A Very Commendable Career And I Am Sure You Will Have A Successful One As A Judge. (Sen. Ted Kennedy, Committee On The Judiciary, U.S. Senate, Hearing, 4/5/90)
SEN. FRANK LAUTENBERG (D-NJ): I Believe Mr. Alito Has The Experience And The Skills To Be The Kind Of Judge The Public Deserves One Who Is Impartial, Thoughtful, And Fair. I Urge The Senate To Confirm His Nomination. (Sen. Frank Lautenberg, Congressional Record, 4/27/90, p. S5281)
FORMER SEN. BILL BRADLEY (D-NJ): [T]he Confirmation Of Sam Alito As U.S. Attorney For New Jersey Is Testimony To The Commitment He Has Shown And The Success Of His Efforts As A Law Enforcement Official. I Am Confident That He Will Continue To Do All He Can To Uphold The Laws Of This Nation With The Kind Of Determination And Vigor That Has Been His Trademark In The Past. (Sen. Bill Bradley, Congressional Record, 12/8/87, p. S17427)
I had heard that he was unanimously confirmed to his current seat.
Well this should be interesting to watch .. who's got the popcorn?
Teddy... Teddy... Teddy...
I can just hear him later today.
Teddy: "I was drunk at the time (duh) that I made those statements!"
I'm ready to rumble! Bring it on!
That was then, this is now.
Yes, but the O-Big-Wan Kennedy also said,
"It is a standard tactic to take someones proposal, misstate it, and then disagree with it. Its very effective. Ive used it myself.
No doubt the Lyin' Liberal from Massachusetts will sharpen his skills. Or they will be sharpened for them.
"In Justice Alito's America back- alley abortions.."
We all know that he is a tool of the Radical Right Wing of the party. He wants to turn back the clock...He wants to stop blacks from voting...blah blah blah
You all know the rest!
Senate starts @ 2pm BTW
We'll hear them flip-flopping soon.
I'll be eagerly listening as I'm carving my pumpkins for Halloween
Cool! I'd like to see Bush and other notable Pubbies repeat these statements every day till Alito is confirmed.
I'm sure the MSM will hold their feet to the fire now and constantly remind the American people that they all supported him in the past. :-)
Aren't any "front alleys" in America?
You got it, Senator "Chubby-Chops" will think of something rude to say about Judge Alito.
I head Cornyn on Fox about an half ago repeating Lautenberg's statements.
"I heard Cornyn on Fox about an half ago repeating Lautenberg's statements."
Great! That's good to hear.
No, No, No, I was misquoted and taken out of context. Besides I was having a bad hair day. LOL. Amen.
Can I say something? I just love Free Republic. I'm already hearing from my lefty friends about 'Scalito.' These quotes make for the perfect comeback!!
...and they think that's gonna hurt him???
Tag line for rent....
There you go... the only thing more factual than what you read on the internet... is an internet "tagline". :)
I really care less about what ole teddeeee thinks. He's so old hat anymore...so 60's...soooo kennedeee. I can't stand looking at him he is such a disgrace to our country
Ted Kennedy on Alito, from 1990
Alito has a distinguished record ... [w]e look forward to supporting you.
Well yeah, but that was then, this is now. Most of the Democrats who supported Alito in 1990 have taken a dozen different positions on every issue since then.
Wow! Was he really confirmed 100-0?
Do you happen to have the date?
I think we'll needs drinks before this is over...lol.
The fifth RC. Love it, Mo1.
EXCELLENT! I think I may bump this throughout the day.
This will be/is the dembos spin, talking points in today's environment. I've already heard 'em saying this. Since, 1990 these dembos in 2005 have a totally different play book...I think they've taken it out of the Communist Manifesto.
(I believe those numbers are correct - after a quick Google and Wikipedia search, but YMMV)
The Dems will still "Obstruct and Dissent"
The RINOs will still betray the President by not supporting him with the Nuke option.
We're about to see WHY Bush originally tried to choose a stealth candidate -- i.e., Bush can't get a conservative through a supposedly Republican Senate.
I sure hope I'm wrong ... but I'm not.
Thanks for the info!!!
fyi ping -
heard on tv news that Alito had been confirmd unanimously by the Senate twice before,
yet the media mongers are already turned turtle and screaming.
WTG, PRESIDENT BUSH!!
I've got popcorn, but I'm saving the butter for the Demolibs to slip all over.
Hee, hee, this is gonna be good.
Even before the dembos started their talking points...I knew those 15 yrs on the court...would be used against him. "We supported him once, but no longer due to his opinions on the court." Even though these dembos keep spouting we want someone who'll NOT legislate from the bench. Which I believe that's just what Alito HAS NOT DONE.
The dembos continue to prove they're liars...when in fact this is just what they want from the bleeding heart liberals on the bench.
You can now faint! :)
From RNC Email:
SEN. ARLEN SPECTER (R-PA) ON
JUDGE SAMUEL A. ALITO, JR.
Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA): "I've known Judge Alito through the better part of two decades. He sits on the Court Of Appeals for the Third Circuit, which includes my state of Pennsylvania. He brings to this nomination a very distinguished record: was in the Solicitor General's Office, was U.S. Attorney for New Jersey. He has been on the federal bench now for 15 years. We are in the process of assembling his opinions. It is estimated that he has been involved in about 3,500 cases, has some 300 opinions which he has written. So that we have a very good idea as to his approach to jurisprudence." (Sen. Arlen Specter, Press Conference, 10/31/05)
Thus their dem base will clearly see who they have aligned themselves with.
Thus, exposing the special interest groups that fund those scumbags.
Thus, exposing RINO'S.
Majority of AMERICA is Red States. (Wish I had a map pic)
Now take the CA Blue State, add in the TX Red/Blue state, and let's talk about illegal immigration.
Put that on the '06 and '08 campaign platform.
WHAMMO, you got Red States getting redder, and Blue states in trouble. (At least looking at the high electoral vote states).
It's called relativism...whatever works for the moment. It's standard operating procedure for the left.
