I feel your pain. I still intend to write my senators though for the following reasons:

1. Simple therapy. It will be good to get some things off the chest.

2. To outline and highlight Alito's good points, and to counter some of the spin that will undoubtedly come out of the left. By doing so, it will let them know that at least someone here in the socialist republic of Maryland is keeping track of these things, and isn't some mindless, vote for anyone who sounds good on TV lemming that I'm sure they think populate this state.

I think we should be contacting our DIM senators. Most of the Pubbies will pay with their base if they go against Alito but the DIMS need to know that we're watching and we care and we will fight against them at election time.

The problem we have here in Illinois is that Chicago is its own state aside from the rest of Illinois. Durbin knows and my guess is Obama does too from his state government experience. Simply put, neither one cares. They count on their votes from Chicago and they do Chicago's bidding regardless.

I would love to see durbin ousted. Maybe then Illinois can join ranks of states that have SANE representation!

Byrd will vote for a strict constructionist, being a constitutional scholar. He voted Roberts out of committee. Rockef##ker wouldn't vote for anyone to the right of Maurice Strong.

Love to, but I only have a couple of looser dim Senators in my state.

Same here.

In fact, mine are even worse.

:(

Best to call their offices in home state, not just send email or call a flunky staffer in DC office.

Hi, Meg!

It won't change the vote but it will annoy them.

I'll do it anyway, of course. But even then, they are too clueless to be annoyed.

Although, maybe if I showed up on their respective doorsteps with a bushelbasket of money like WEAC (Wisconsin teachers' union) or the Tribes (casino gambling lobbyists), I, too, can own my very own Wisconsin politician!

Conservative values are mainstream (ol Chucky Schumer is lieing when he claims that the party of pervertism is mainstream).

Bring it on! - lets go Freepers and get this justice confirmed.

We have the same problem in Maryland. Baltimore (and Prince Georges county) basically decides our statewide (and national) elections. I live in Baltimore though, so perhaps my letters might carry a bit more weight, but I doubt it.

It's all about rejecting anything conservative with these people, no matter where you come from in the state. I don't have any illusions to the contrary. I still think it's a good idea to write to my senators though. It's the same concept as the "Chinese water torture": A persistant drip drip of contrary opinion can be rather annoying, when done consistently over time. ;)
