The American public has more confidence in the military than in any other institution, according to a Gallup poll ...
Seventy-four percent of those surveyed in Gallup's 2005 confidence poll said they have "a great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in the military - more than in a full range of other government, religious, economic, medical, business and news organizations.
This year's 74 percent confidence level exceeded that of all 15 institutions included in the 2005 survey.
Police ranked second, with 63 percent of responders expressing "a great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in them.
Organized religion rated third, with 53 percent of responders expressing high confidence, and banks rated a 49 percent high-confidence rate.
The Gallup organization noted that public trust in television news and newspapers reached an all-time low this year, with 28 percent of responders expressing high confidence in them.

This is some of the best news I have heard in a long time. If the MSM has less than 1/3 of the people believing their lies than they have lost their power. And did anyone else but me notice that all of the items listed over 50% tended to be conservative and with the exceptions of banks, just barely below 50%, all of those below were liberal. OK I know congress is Republican, but between the libs and the Rinos most of the noise you hear from congress is from the left.

This is exactly why the Republicans should campaign on how the DemocRats have consistently acted to disenfranchise the military vote.

The American people are getting it more and more each day! With this poll being taken in May, 2005, I suspect the ratings for Newspapers are lower today than when the poll was taken. The MSM is living in a bubble that is dying every day. They are destroying themselves with each day that goes by.

That's after the alphabet Spews Channels and Print Spews trying everything it can to tear the military down with one imagined faux torrid scandal after another. Imagine how high it would be if the media had actually supported the military.

The Liberals' wacky stereotype of military people just joining the military "to go to college" or "because they can't find a job" is the largest load of horse---- I've heard in my 57 years. The "media" is clueless. They know absolutely nothing about the military and it's soldiers, Marines, sailors and airmen. Nothing.

I've known that like you for 57 soon 58 years as well. Worst part is they for the most part are too stupid to hire retired military to cover the military in the field, and in the pentagon; unless it's someone like Gen Clark. They need to hire Retired NCO's to cover the stories and not pampered princes fresh out of the pentagon.

Now if we can just get MORE military on the air and in news articles...wait...what am I saying? they would have to go through the MSM.
In light of the leftist, anti military MSM running the show...the favorable rating can be construed to be EVEN HIGHER for the military. After all, they can hardly get their great story OUT and the american people STILL RATE THEM THE HIGHEST!

Did anyone notice that the date on the article was June, 2005? First I heard of the poll. Good thing there's no media bias...

I can hear more leftist's heads exploding..
Their attacks since the 60's have failed....
Now all we can hope for is the loony left going Postal, doing something stupid and agressive - providing justification to finally shoot their sorry asses..
That would be good...

I wonder how long Gallup has been including the military in the answer options.
Kudos to: the CIC, the SecDef, and all those who serve. I'll even throw in a handclap or two for Congress, for funding military ops adequately.

And now a word from our real Sponsors of Free Speech
The Men and Women who serve,
and have served, our country
are the ones who make sure that
the Politicans and Judges are free to do their job.
We would not have a US Supreme Court
without the protection of the Military.
Politicans and Judges are safe
because of the Military who protect them.
TEST : Call your Senator or Congressman's office
AFTER 5 PM, or on the weekend.
IF you speak to an actual person, ask who's in charge today?
Now look up the phone number
of your local military base.
Call that number 24/7
and ask the live voice you get
to speak with the person in charge.
Send a Thank You while you enjoy your Freedom also.

In the Department of Defense there are:
34 - four star generals/admirals
124 - three star generals/admirals
278 - two star generals/admirals
439 - one star generals/admirals
Throw in the U.S. Coast Guard and you have 900 generals and admirals on active duty today. This is roughly the same number of generals/admirals who were on active duty in WWII when our military was 12,000,000 strong.
Given that on any given year 15-20% of those generals/admirals will retire each year it doesn't take much figuring to realize that the number of generals calling for Secretary Rumsfeld to resign is laughable.
