"This level of hysteria suggests anti-terror laws are sound"
The Australian ^ | 2nd November 2005 | Janet Albrechtsen
Posted on 11/02/2005 1:22:52 PM PST by naturalman1975
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "AUSTRALIA has a new measure of sound public policy. Called the Fairfax Index, it works like this. The more hysterical the hyperbole on a particular topic on the Fairfax opinion pages and the greater the number of progressive pen pals spilling their outrage on the Fairfax letters pages, the more likely it is that the target of their anguish is good public policy. Using the Fairfax Index, the latest anti-terrorism laws must represent very sound public policy indeed.
On Monday the index soared when The Australian Financial Review's Geoffrey Barker compared Australia, with its new "draconian anti-terrorist legislation", to Singapore as it moves towards executing Nguyen Tuong Van. "The Australian and Singaporean governments have basically similar authoritarian and retributive instincts," he said.
A rather low-rent comparison given that Australia is not yet executing people and, as far as I can tell, it's still legal to chew gum here."

WHY are they praying at a football game anyway? And coincidentally right next to the main air intake. Hmmmm. Then they are rewarded. Sheesh! How many of you think if we asked as Christians or Jews for a special room in which to pray that we would get one?
Coco is getting madder by the minute. We are so stupid!
And one more thing, they were noticed and reported during the first quarter and nothing was done until the third quarter. Just great! Dry run?
Ok then, "muzleems" work for me.
Thanks JP!
I'd love to see the Palestinians' definition of "charities."
It was reported today that this plan will take years to implement. Why am I not surprised?
Oh my, I've prayed at many football games. Especially when Elway was going for a long bomb. Bronco fans pray alot. But never wearing a prayer shawl, on a prayer mat, or facing Mecca. And especially never near a ventilation duct!
Speaking of football. My youngest son and my Dad are fierce Dallas Cowboy fans. My eldest son and Mr. RR are hard-core Bronco fans. They will all be here Thanksgiving Day. Guess who is playing each other that day! Hopefully, the L-tryptophan in the turkey will sedate them all a bit.
Evaluation of Foreign Student Program
SNIP:The following evaluation of the foreign student program concludes that:
The INS has little control over the number and type of students being admitted;
The program is littered with corruption and fraud;
American taxpayers subsidize a sizable part of the tuition of foreign students;
The benefits from the program are greatly exaggerated, and the program may well generate a net economic loss for the country;
The program is best viewed as yet another redistribution program, shifting wealth away from native workers and taxpayers and redistributing it to universities and
foreigners. Many foreign leaders, ranging from Pakistans former President Benazir Bhutto to Mexicos Carlos Salinas de Gortari, from Israels Prime Minister Ehud Barak to Philippines Corazon Aquino, obtained part of their education in the United States. One can easily argue that such training may be one of Americas highest valued exports. By giving future foreign leaders first-hand exposure to American democratic values and showing them how the system works, we are presumably building a safer and more prosperous world.
Another foreign student, Hani Hasan Hanjour, a 26-year-old Saudi national, got a student visa to study English at ELS Language Centers in Oakland, California, a Berlitz-owned school that leases space at a local college. Hanjour did not attend a single English class. Instead, he became one of the terrorists in the plane that crashed into the Pentagon on September 11. And two other terrorists including Mohammed Atta, the presumed ringleader were waiting for the official approval of their student visas to attend flight school, an approval that the Immigration and Naturalization Service dutifully mailed out six months after the attacks. Understandably, many Americans demanded to know just how many foreign students were present in the country, and how many of those students originated in the countries identified as "terrorist sponsors" by the State Department.
The INS, however, had not learned the lesson from the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979, when President Carter considered the possibility of retaliating by expelling all the Iranian students then enrolled in American colleges and universities. He too wished to know how many such students would be affected. The INS could not provide that number during the entire 444 days of the crisis. And the INS still has no way of determining how many foreign students are present in the United States.
Another reason to boycott most of the EU countries.
How dare they!
BTW. I just started reading John Gibson's book, "The War on Christmas". He really nails it!
>> Oh my, I've prayed at many football games. Especially when Elway was going for a long bomb. <<
ROTFL!!!!! Thanks for the laugh.
Oh my, that should be interesting!! I think I've mentioned it before but my favorite team has always been the Broncos from the short period of time we lived in Denver many years ago. Once a Bronco fan always a Bronco fan. [always hated the Cowboys for some reason] shhh don't tell anyone.
We have Nascar racing in Dallas this weekend! Dale Jr is going to make an appearance for the last Bud One Night Stand of the year. And if one knows a Budweiser type person you can get tickets. Wooo Hooo.
That escapade at the football game by the mooselimb prayer fakers is just one more reason why we need to be so vigilent. They seem to be scoping out a lot of places.
"Wooo Hooo"
Does this mean you know a Budweiser type person and can get tickets!
Sure hope so. That would be a better trip than Austin and the natural food market. A Bud and a cup of sweet potato strips. Nothin' better.
Naw, it's the "So Fine" Piper. Missing you!
Colorado Springs testing radiation detectors at intersections
SNIP:COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Monitors designed to detect and help track down radiation sources such as "dirty bombs" will be installed on traffic-light poles in an early test of a homeland security system.
The devices, made by Mobile Detect Inc. of Toronto, will transmit radiation levels to the city's traffic control center. High radiation levels will trigger cameras to start filming in an attempt to find clues to the source.
Reports of hantavirus in India
SNIP:The report is the first of its kind in India showing evidence of Hantavirus infection in the population. Researchers analyzed a group of 152 patients with symptoms of fever for antibodies against Hantavirus, out of which 23 (14.7 per cent) were positive for the infection. In contrast, only 5.7 per cent of healthy blood donors tested were positive.
Muslim Giants fans detained after standing near main air intake dut
SNIP:An FBI spokesman told The Associated Press the men were interrogated because they were congregating near the main air intake duct for Giants Stadium.
SNIP:Islamic fascists have declared war on American women, to turn the calendar back to the 7th century. Using the same tactics perfected in the 7th century, Islamic fascists infiltrate, intimidate, mutilate and dominate their unsuspecting prey. Professing to be religious warriors Islamic jihadists justify their use of the sword, fire and rape to impose their 7th century ideology on others for power and profit.
SNIP:Jemaah Islamiyah's bomb experts had hand-mixed the lethal chemicalsa cheap and easy-to-obtain concoction of potassium chlorate, sulfuric acid, and aluminum powder. Ali Imron testified that he bought 12 plastic filing cabinets and filled their drawers with explosives; the cabinets were then bolted to the floor of the van, alongside another drawer full of TNT.
Looking at your Godzilla picture and wishing we had one or two of these in Iraq and Afghanistan right now.

TMers will appreciate this joke:
A Somali arrives in Minneapolis as a new immigrant to the United States.
He stops the first person he sees walking down the street and says,
"Thank you Mr. American for letting me in this country, and giving me housing, food stamps, free medical care, and free education!"
But the passer-by says, "You are mistaken, Señor, I am Mexican".
The man goes on and encounters another passer-by, "Thank you for having such a beautiful country here in America!"
The person says, "I no American, I Vietnamese."
The new arrival walks further, and the next person he sees he stops, shakes his hand and says "Thank you for the wonderful America!"
That person puts up his hand and says, "I am from Middle East, I am not an American!"
He finally sees a nice lady and asks suspiciously, "Are you an American?"
She says, "No, I am from Russia!"
So he is puzzled, and asks her, "Where are all the Americans?"
The Russian lady looks at her watch, shrugs, and says ... "Probably at work!"
Thanks Liberty Rocks.
You're welcome. (o:
*snickering* Shoot, I'm not a Human Resources Manager anymore I can *LOL* at all jokes now ;)

LOL
I was just reading another thread where our Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff was visiting El Paso. He said he didn't know the Minutemen had been there and also said it would take a long time to secure the border. Double DUH! Then something about the guest worker program. I can't figure out why the DC folks continue to hang their hats on this stupid guest worker program because we have enough legals here already on welfare, they should be put to work. We don't need no stinkin guests.
I know it's supposed to be a joke.
The best humor has its foundations in truth.
However, I'm still laughing.
Thanks.
I really cannot believe Chertoff did not know about the Minutemen. Where has his head been!
My biggest disappointment in President Bush has been his border control policy.............or lack of it.
IslamCommentaries.com
A must read from my friend William Welty's website.

The Cell
As many of our readers of these Islam Commentaries know, the Zionist Enemy of Islam's twin brother Charles is a screenwriter. A member of the Writers Guild of America, West, he has written a number of world class motion picture scripts, not the least of which is Ameristan, which portrays the takeover of the United States by conservative, Wahhabi-type, radical Muslims. In Charles Welty's Ameristan, the United States of America becomes a conservative Muslim state where Islamic Sharia is the law of the land. You still cant post the Ten Commandments in public schools, but Allah help you if you dont recite the Quran three times a day.
Yesterday evening I was discussing with him the October 2005 issue of Written By, the official magazine publication of the WGAw. That issue contains an article that highlights a screenplay written by Mark Legan and Mark Wilding, entitled The Cell. It's a comedy.
Yeah, I know, there's nothing funny about the goals of conservative, Wahhabi-type, radical Islam to subjugate the West to Sharia.
Then again, as the WGAw magazine article points out, Charlie Chaplin made his classic anti-Hitler film The Great Dictator while that maniac was at the zenith of his power in Nazi Germany. Television's Hogan's Heroes, a sit-com set in a German prison camp, became a hit TV series only about twenty-years after the end of World War II. Nobody thinks twice about Mel Brooks (and he's Jewish!) and his comedy motion picture and subsequent hit Broadway musical, The Producers.
Screenwriter Wilding has written for the television series Jake 2.0, among other projects, and Legan has written for ... uh, come to think of it, the Written By article doesn't mention anything that he's done lately. So never mind. According to the piece:
Homeland Security has little to fear from this terrorist cell in Chicago. Yes, its leader Abu hates "the depraved" American pop culture and plans to "teach the western dogs a lesson," but he's also helplessly devoted to a local bowling team. While "gathering information," Musab Khadjimuirbaradi has fallen under TV's spell, discovering that "Judge Judy is stern but fair," and unable to resist impulse buying or binge eating.
Yeah, I thought so. You're probably as sick as I am, so you're dying to read The Cell. Okay, it just so happens that the article on WGAw's web site contains a link to the complete screenplay in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. Click here to download it from their web site. Or click here to download a copy from our own web site.
Here's the link to the play:

Looks interesting.
Good one Lucy!
Thank you for yet another great thread!
""We used a little innovation to update our 1960s-vintage SAMs to detect the Nighthawk," Dani said. He declined to discuss specifics, saying the exact nature of the modification to the warhead's guidance system remains a military secret.
It involved "electromagnetic waves", was all that Colonel Dani who now owns a small bakery in this sleepy village just north of Belgrade would divulge."
Well, Tesla did come from that neck of the global woods.
LOL... Looks like they both could use a few acting lessons! (o;
