Posted on 11/02/2005 8:21:52 PM PST by jmc1969
Thousands of protesters staged rallies on Wednesday across the United States against the policies of President George W. Bush, including the war in Iraq and response to Hurricane Katrina.
The World Can't Wait organization, a coalition of groups formed recently to stage the rallies, used the anniversary of Bush's re-election to call for his resignation in protests that took place in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco and Chicago.
In New York, students walked out of schools and colleges and joined other supporters as thousands rallied in Union Square before marching nearly 2 miles to Times Square along avenues lined with police on motorbikes.
"The Bush regime is out to remake the world with its policies," said organizer Sunsara Taylor. "From the war in Iraq to environmental policies to the remaking of the Supreme Court ... we are staring down the barrel of fascism in this country."
Olivier Martineau, 16, walked out of his high school with 17 others to join the march. "I am strongly against the war in Iraq," he said. "We are always sticking our noses into other people's business when we don't even realize our battles at home."
Student Tuarian Wolfe, 19, carried a sign reading "No Iraqi ever left me on my rooftop to die," to protest the slow response to help poor people stranded in New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina.
"This war is now resonating with youth with the military recruiting in their high schools and they know they are not far away from danger," she said.

Back in the day...we would have been given detention for walking out of school like that.
thousands of students from high schools and colleges wer encouraged to hit the streets for this BS. The schools should be fined for allowing them to skip class for such tripe.
Well, I was pretty much an idiot politically too when I was sixteen.
If I grew out of it, there's a chance some of these morons will too.
The young ones, I mean.
looks like the same recycled faces from the last protest
Sheer brilliance. And to think this little smartie pants is only 19 and already able to come up with such a profound statement.
On the other hand, MILLIONS of AMERICANS (the people that make America great) had to go to work on Wednesday.
Welcome to Free Republic!
Thanks! But actually I'm a retread.
I guess we will have to suffer these fools anytime there's a republican president. four years of demonstrating after losing the election.
By my math, that would leave hundreds of millions NOT protesting...
While the dead can be counted on to show up for elections consistently and vote liberal, they never seem to have the energy to make it to these loser-fests...
Whew, for a second there I thought I missed a protest about unprotected, unmonitored, unsupervised open borders by FReepers.
These losers are the same ilk that spawned Neville Chamberlin back in hitler's heyday. Totally irrational. Totally unable to deal with reality...looking for someone to blow smoke up their ass.
Welcome to Free Republic
if you're not a recycled FReeper with a new name and registration, you have, at long last, found your home!
Welcome to FR.
You beat me to it. I actually just looked up the current American population and it's over 295 MILLION, so at least about 295 million OTHER Americans stayed home, went to work or school or the beach or shopping or the movies and DIDN'T participate in some stupid "protest" or "demonstration.
Maroons on parade
Support educational choice candidates. Give the parents the right to choose their child's indoctrination.
I went to the WCW rally and march today here in FRisco. It blew. Small crowd, mostly kids. The whole thing is completely stupid. They have no agenda, except to "demand" that the President, and his entire administration, resign. Who will then lead the government is not mentioned. There were some communists there, and on another thread someone said that the whole thing is a front for the Revolutionary Communist Party. This would make sense. There is money and organizational skill coming from somewhere that seems all out of proportion to the triviality of the "movement" itself.
No mature adults, but kids would do anything to skip school. Heck, they probably don't even know who "Bush" is!
This can't be taken seriously. If I promised them all $1 to skip school, they'd do the same thing.
Ditto here. It happened all at once too, when I got my first big girl check and wondered who the h3ll was the FICA guy?
The DUmmies have been ballyhooing these protests for a week. Now that the numbers regarding attendanceare coming in they are not so mouthy.
My humble apologies.
Thanks for the first-hand report. If it was a dud in SF, you can be sure it was a REAL dud elsewhere.
Our Ideology is Marxism-Leninism-Maoism
Our Vanguard is the Revolutionary Communist Party
Our Leader is Chairman Avakian
Thousands rally? Big deal. Who cares? There are many thousands that support Bush. So...their point is??????
Had I not read this thread, I'd have no idea what you were talking about. I didn't see any liberal children dressed up in their disturbing, anti-American costumes today, and I'm in NY!
No, Iraq just murdered, raped and pillage but...she IS right...they never left her on a rooftop to die. :)
Ya know, these fools are in trouble if we ever decide to take sedition and treason seriously again.
Forgive my naivete or outright ignorance, but what does GMTA mean?
I didn't see anything and I live in SF! I saw some posters and wondered where the protest was.
Um, excuse me? I think you meant that for another poster?
"How North Vietnam Won The War," Wall Street Journal August 3, 1995
An interview with Bui Tin, a former colonel in the North Vietnamese army, conducted by Stephen Young, a Minnesota attorney and human-rights activist. Bui Tin served on the general staff of North Vietnam's army He later immigrated to Paris after becoming disillusioned with the fruits of Vietnamese communists.
"Q: Was the American antiwar movement important to Hanoi's victory?
"A: It was essential to our strategy. . . ."
[End of excerpt]
There's a difference between free-speech opposition to your government's policy and anti-government antics that help the enemy.
I believe that after the war the NV admitted that they were ready to talk serious peace by 1969 (after Tet) but they saw the "anti-war" movement growing in the U.S.
"Anti-war" equals more deaths.
Give victory a chance.
Kudos to you. I bugged out of work early as they were planning to close most of the streets and on/off ramps to the 405 freeway in West Los Angeles. The wild eyed leftists roaming the halls at work were so excited about the protest monkeys they were leaving snail trails.
Translation: It all -ALL of this rubbish- comes down to personal cowardice.
(acid quill, just for your delight, o my sister)
What if "progressives" held a protest and no one showed up?
In Cleveland, the commies and kids cutting school crowd were smaller than the number of police and newsies working the event. LOL!
So when Clinton was convicted of lying under oath we sealed the fate of "Bush the Liar" . If the next democrat president is actually CONVICTED of rape or theft or some other such nonsense, then the republican that follows him (or her) will be XXXXX the rapist or XXXXX the thief...etc.
I'm going to make a buck on the whole thing and start printing T-shirts now. Can anyone figure out how to make the idea 'Rice is a thief' rhyme with "Hey Hey ... Ho Ho...?"
Impatience is a serious disease.
The NYTIMES cut the dead marines' letter to his girlfriend to make him look like he was against the war. Freepers get out in the streets and stop these socialist now before it is too late.
after she's elected it will be: Hey, Hey, Ho, Ho; Condi Rice Has got to Go.
I am, indeed, delighted, my brother.
sehr gut, meine schwester
