"How the liberals and Commies helped overthrow one of the greatest allies of the US in the mideast"

An ally who stayed in power with torture and didn't have a democratic bone in his body. And when he was overthrown the people didn't just hate him - they hated us too.

You would think we would have learned more from that situation.

Yes.

I also read that the Shah was unpoular with the most radical of the lunatic Muslims in Iran as he was toying with resurrecting Zoroastrianism as a state religion - Zoroastrianism was the first Monotheistic religion and had its origins in Persia.

I also read in one of the postings in this forum something about Jimmy Carter having a personal vendetta with the Shah over some personal economic details, but can't recall the details.

Under the Shah, its true they had a brutal secret police, but SAVAK was hardly more brutal than what they have there now, and probably a lot less effective and intrusive in the personal lives of individual Iranians. There was also a thriving, educated, middle class adn a lot of pro-western thinkers there.

Jimmy Carter and the French - who provided Khomeni with asylum - helped unleash a nuclear mightmare on the world.

Last night he said that a boycotte on the 1980 Moscow games was a much stronger detterence than invading Iraq to prevent a threat

This idiot caused all the problems we have today in that region. I do believe your comment is a tad simplistic

No I tend to agree. He is an idiot. But seriously, while Jimmy didn't cause all the troubles, he sure as hell didn't do a damn thing to make things better. I saw an interview where he said his most proud moment was not succumbing to pressure to use military force - no mention of burned helicopters in the Iranian desert. My impression is that he was inept, lost his nerve and then was paralyzed with fear.

The number one reason I despise Carter. I saw it happening back then and I never changed my mind. Carter started this and now he sticks his nose in criticizing.

We did. And THAT is precisely why we went into Afghanistan and Iraq and may have to make other "visits".

Do a search for "real alternative" or go to this site:

http://www.codecguide.com/about_real.htm

It's a free codec that plays real audio files without installing the real audio player.

There is also a quicktime alternative available so you don't have to install that either.

LMAO

Carter was blaming Reagan for Iran-Contra too, last night but there was no one, almost no body, to remind the old idiot that Iran became a mess due to his stupidity!

Until the end of the Shah's rule, God continued to bless Persia/Iran because one of the Shah's predecessors, Cyrus, rebuilt The Temple in Jerusalem. (I will bless them that bless thee)

The Shah was just as bad as the rest of them. Unfortunately, Carter let someone even worse take over.

Actually I was thinking about our relationships with Saudi Arabia and China.

Not true!

=========================================

Absolutely true. We put the exalted Reza on the throne in 1953, almost against his own wishes, and in the process threw out the only legally elected leader Iran ever had. Under the FOI act CIA docs that were formerly classified are not available to anyone who can google. The docs describe blow by blow what Ike did, how we had to use Reza's own sister to shame him into action and how he fled to Italy when the first stage of the coup didn't go too well.
