Had the Scooter Libby indictment come down in October 2004 it would have indeed been a FitzXmas for the 'Rats ... however, I think NewsMax (as they're inclined to do) have taken Fitzgeralds comments out of context. I listened to a good portion of his post indictment press conference and didn't come away thinking he was some partisan hack. Overzealous ... but a reasonably straight shooter.
You were all on top of this story a lot sooner than I was and had more of it figured out than anyone in D.C. from what I can tell.
This story seemed so silly to me that I originally paid very little attention to it. Shows what I know :-)
And I think you're onto something with that Mandy Grunwald connection.
We'll never really know. What I still haven't figured out... Joe Wilson talked to Novak in connection with his article before it was published. Neither Wilson or Novak is called before the Grand Jury. If Fitz was really investigating the outing of Plame, why not put them under oath and on the stand? I also get the impression that Wilson let slip to Novak that his wife was involved and just didn't mention her by name. That's why he was so po'ed when Novak mentioned her by name. Perhaps he was using her wmd job to bolster his claims. Novak was not the pushover for the story that the lib writers were. Seems to me that Fitz was investigating classified info being released, because the outing had bombed. (why he questions Miller about how he handled info, and why she was so vital even though she wrote no article. I also believe that she got the info on Flame from Wilson, and he used the word Flame so that he could say he never said Plame. seems like the kinda thing that stuffed shirt might try. I also think Rove is only being investigated on releasing classified info and that Scooter gets in the way of proving it)
Oh my God! I woke up to hear a snip of an interview with him this morning on the local public radio. It was unbearable. Maybe I was influenced by him. The horror!
It shows dude.
" Which was the first time Wilson began peddling his story to Pincus (Washington Post) and Kristof (NY Times). The "I debunked the forged memo" story."
The Wilson timeline may be shifting , again.
The American Spectator blog has a plea for the internet savvy.
" This story popped up today on American Thinker.
Apparently, Wilson outed himself far before Novak ever did, and the site which normally carries the program and the speech is down. Does anyone have the mp3 in which Wilson gives his speech? Please, please, please email us at editor@spectator.org if so."
Wonder if Ted Wells and the folks at Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison can have better luck finding the speech ?
I think Joe asked his attorney for advice "before" Novak's article came out because of the "FRIEND" who ran to Joe's house and told him what Novak had "supposedly" said. Joe and "friend" wrote it all down. Joe didn't run to his attorney for advice? (privileged information).
My contention is that the "friend" who approached Novak and Joe's attorney are the same person and perhaps WHY the FBI was in the neighborhood at the last minute which made no sense to us.
If it had come down early, it would have SPOILED Hillary's plan. She would heve had to wait until 2012. She should have run in 2004 as VP. Of course, Kerry would be one scared President with Hillary covering his back.
I believe they are the same person, also, and that Joe is that person. No reporter reveals to anyone what is in an unpublished story, unless that person already knows and has reason not to go public with it first. I also think Fitz knew right away that Joe did the outing, and at the end decided to do the neighbor interviews for a little CYA, just in case Joe had already told the whole neighborhood.
