My eternal gratitude to The US Marines, now and in the past, for all they have done for us.
Happy Birthday, to all of you, wherever you are.

The U.S. Mint recently released a Marine Corps 230th Anniversary Silver Dollar in tribute to the Marines. It was the first commemorative silver dollar minted honoring a branch of the U.S. armed forces. The U.S. Marines deservedly were the first to be so honored. Only 600,000 of these silver dollars were minted ... and the U.S. Mint sold out quickly ... which means the coin is now a collectors item. Being an astute individual, a quasi coin collector, and former Marine ... I ordered mine early. No bias here ... but it's one very handsome coin ... one of the best looking silver dollars coined in recent years.

Before I forget, I received my commemorative USMC silver dollar in the mail yesterday.
I highly recommend it. A beautiful coin!

Aren't they nice!
Was intending to carry it as a "pocket piece", but once seeing it - decided to just lock it in the gun vault for my favorite grandson..
YES - there is a favorite grandson -- He's the one who loves to walk in the woods with me and the dog, shoot, talk and just "hang together", which is his description I haven't quite decyphered.
The coins came about a month ago, and I sent one to my middle brother in Maryland (also a former Marine) --- but the damned ingrate hasn't even acknowledged receiving it or thanking me...
Actually -- I suspect his wife had heard from my wife that it was coming -- and set it aside to wrap as a Marine Birthday Gift, since it is so close.
Let me be the first to wish you and all the Jarheads in the forum a "Happy Birthday"!
I can't express how wonderful it has been to find this forum - where so MANY young and old Marine brothers come to talk.
Do you have, or know of someone who has a "ping" list that grabs all the Marines in the forum?
It sure would be nice to have before the 10th....
