Kenneth Tomlinson, the head of the federal agency that oversees most government broadcasts to foreign countries, including the Voice of America and Radio Free Europe, is the subject of an inquiry into accusations of misuse of federal money and the use of phantom or unqualified employees, the NY TIMES is set to report on Page Ones Saturday. "People involved in the inquiry said that investigators had interviewed a number of officials at the agency and that, if the accusations were substantiated, they could involve criminal violations," the paper claims.

Indeed. I wondered how long it would be before they went after him. I hope he's not in the wrong on this, because he had it right about what needs to be done with PBS. I say, quit funding it altogether.

Here's an entry from Wikipedia.
Kenneth Tomlinson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

This article documents a current event. Information may change rapidly as the event progresses. |
Kenneth Tomlinson was the chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a position he was elected to in September 2003. [1] He also served as the chairman of the Broadcasting Board of Governors.
Tomlinsone resigned in early November 2005, after an internal CPB investigation into Tomlinson's controversial use of outside "bias ratings" to make executive decisions regarding shows such as NOW with Bill Moyers, found incriminating findings. In a statement the board said:
- "The board does not believe that Mr. Tomlinson acted maliciously or with any intent to harm CPB or public broadcasting...Nonetheless, both the board and Mr. Tomlinson believe it is in the best interests of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting that he no longer remain on the board.

Wikipedia says he resigned in early November 2005 due to the internal investigation. Is this true?

Without knowing any details, I can confidently predict that this is either a frame-up or a smear-job put up by PBS Demo/Commies who feared that their hegemony was being challenged and undermined by Tomlinson.
We are seeing glimpses of an organized Demo/Commie syndicate afoot that is as unprincipled and ruthless as any that operated out of the old KGB or Stasi, with similar goals and methods at their disposal. See Ronnie Earle, for example.

Note to self and other conservatives .... If ever called before a grand jury repeat alternating phrases of I can't remember and I'm sorry but I do not recall, so you won't get accused of covering up a non-crime. Make them work for it at least.

I guess it is.
Here's a UPI article. It says nothing about missing funds. And that Tomlinson strongly disputes the findings of the yet-unreleased Inspector General's report (from which the NYT will likely quote).
(My link in the previous post goes to Source Watch not Wikipedia... oops! Both say the same thing.)

I'm just recalling some misuse of funds by Moyers, if I'm not mistaken...can't quite remember what it was...overpaid himself or something like that.
I don't recall any criminal investigation, but of course, that's the liberal way.

That only works if your boss is a justice-obstructing perjurer like Bill Clinton. Our President directed his employees to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. As he should have.

I despise Tomlinson, but can't imagine him misappropriating funds.
