Mark Steyn: Wake up, Europe, you've a war on your hands
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | November 6, 2005 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 11/06/2005 3:14:50 AM PST by Puzzleman

Ever since 9/11, I've been gloomily predicting the European powder keg's about to go up. ''By 2010 we'll be watching burning buildings, street riots and assassinations on the news every night,'' I wrote in Canada's Western Standard back in February.

Silly me. The Eurabian civil war appears to have started some years ahead of my optimistic schedule.

the summation:

"If Chirac isn't exactly Charles Martel, the rioters aren't doing a bad impression of the Muslim armies of 13 centuries ago: They're seizing their opportunities, testing their foe, probing his weak spots. If burning the 'burbs gets you more ''respect'' from Chirac, they'll burn 'em again, and again. In the current issue of City Journal, Theodore Dalrymple concludes a piece on British suicide bombers with this grim summation of the new Europe: ''The sweet dream of universal cultural compatibility has been replaced by the nightmare of permanent conflict.'' Which sounds an awful lot like a new Dark Ages."

the man is bang on the mark.

Great article.
Just think the 'liberals' insisted that we must look to France for guidance on the Iraq War. Will they approve of a 'France War' that might come for America to save them?

France made their bed -- now they must lie in it.

Great column, just great. Will reread as an antidote to the Sunday shows where Bush and Cheney will be fried, fricasseed, grilled, broiled, and done to a turn while real news is made in Paris.

" ... As is the way with the political class, they seem to see the riots as an excellent opportunity to scuttle Sarkozy's presidential ambitions rather than as a call to save the Republic ..."

If I didn't know better, I would begin to believe that Mr. Steyn was referring to America's Democrats.

In fact, should one change a few simple words, you have exactly what the enemy Democrats are all about.

Anyone that doesn't realize this is a world war with Islamic fanaticism is a fools fool soon to be a victim IMO.

Don't look now, but we are making the same bed.

We have all the elements of degeneracy right here. Combined that with the aid and succor they will undoubtably recieve from the Democrat Party and you have exactly the same situation.

Perhaps the spark will be another Republican Presidency in 2008?

Mark Steyn says that Chirac is no Charles Martel. He is, however, very close to Jerry Lewis.
