BUFFALO NY--A pregnant woman was arrested Sunday after she left her four young children home alone to attend her own baby shower.

Lillie P. Maxwell, 26, of Buffalo, was charged with eight counts of misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

Her children, who range in age from 5 months to 11 years old, were left in an apartment strewn with rotting food, open liquor bottles and decaying uncooked beef in the kitchen sink, police said.

Her 22-month-old son suffered from a possible abdominal hernia and was taken to a hospital, police said.

Police said the children were so cold they raised the heat themselves, placing it at 80 degrees.

Maxwell was arrested when she returned from the shower. She is being held on $2,500 bail.

"...it's considered tacky to give an expectant mother a baby shower for her 5th pregnancy. Sorta like, by #5, you should have all the baby stuff you need by now."

You're missing the point....it's an excuser to PARTY!!!!

My MD sister-in-law delivered the eighth child of a woman who was 20. No twins.

I have five babies. I was thrown a baby shower for my fifth baby. He was a complete surprise. When we moved, not knowing I was pregnant we threw out all our baby things (don't they say that's the way to ensure pregnancy?). I asked around my church if anyone had anything I could borrow. Instead I wound up with a baby shower and a lot of new friends.

Agreed,

I've seen it done many times with a later baby or when it was pretty apparent that no baby things remained.

In this woman's case, I go for 'excuse to party' reason. :)

Sorta like, by #5, you should have all the baby stuff you need by now :)

The previous baby is only 5 months old, so she probably needs duplicates, like if she had twins.

We give away baby things when we move, too, and then end up needing more!

"It Probably Felt Right At The Time".

She replied, "No, its indecent. You know, when it is long enough and hard enough and in far enough.. it is indecent!"

I'm being bad again! < slap>

Seems like she could also be registered as the incoming president of the Young Democrats Club. She has all of the qualifications for it,,,she is young, rather dimwitted, does not care about anyone but herself, likes to party, and leaves the work to others to take care of. She should run for public office with those virtues!! (please excuse sarcasm, but I really feel sorry for the little kids involved with this POS Mother they have!)

Don't like it spelled Lillie. Don't know why. Just don't. So they are both off.

I understand completely...I look at my kids and can't imagine subjecting to the conditions that are described. I keep my rotting beef in the bathtub, like any good Mom! ;-P

Seriously, 'Mothers' like this make me sick.

LEL's Krafty Kitchen Hints:

Infusing your moonshine with rotting beef gives it a nice musky 'edge'!
