The Cal politics is one reason I left California permanently for Arizona last year. Arizona today reminds me a lot of California when I was a high school and college student there in the 1970's. Politically conservative and sane, reasonble taxes, affordable housing, limited traffic congestion, lots of wide open space for building and recreation. The weather is too hot here in the summer and we're a long way from the coast, but otherwise it's a lot like California 30 years ago.

Next year I'm moving to the north end of the Phoenix metro area so I have a short drive to Flagstaff to cool off on the weekends. The summer is tough here for us warm-blooded northern european types of people: very hot and it never lets up except for a few cooler tropical storms. You have to get away to the mountains in the summer to cool off.

Arnold gave a very good concession speech, very moving, very positive.

I think we can safely say that the Democrats and their union masters have implemented a pay as you go lease of the State of California. I just hope that our side will make them repeat that $120 plus million dollar payment each year until they can't afford it any longer.

Keep the government away from me (social liberalism) and my money (fiscal conservatism).

We agree on the basic definition of fiscal conservatism, but social Liberalism is all about government interference into your life to make sure Liberal boards have more of a role in raising your kids and influencing your "beliefs" about gays, Muslims and other "special" groups...and making sure you can't smoke anywhere but in a specially-built lead-lined bunker 200 feet under ground.

It was Measure Q, by the way. Lost 59-41. I doubt the 3 precincts still out will change anything.

Oh, I don't intend to give up myself and I think most everyone here agrees, we'll lick and bandage our wounds, and pick up our pitchforks and pointed sticks and head to the next battleground.

It's in our blood, we don't quit, but oh man will we wail,

on ourselves and our "own" even .. and I wouldn't have it any other way. if things come too easy, we forget how precious they are, the left is oh so guilty of that and imperils us all with their reckless spending and social agendas..

It's all part of a learning experience and if we are lucky , we will pass on to those who follow us , the lessons of our mistakes and maybe one day, things will turn around and the true infidels will be cast out of the halls of power and sanity will prevail in a majority of the voters minds..

You get used to it. We always head north for ten days in August and it's a welcome relief; but you can't beat our weather in October/November and no June Gloom!

I apologize for the sarcastic and hateful tone. Didn't sound that way when I was typing it. All in good humor among like minded friends.

As for Arnold, I didn't vote for him in the first place. I voted for an actual conservative, not a Kennedy with an "R" by his name.

And you wonder why the RP has problems in this state...

Think positive.
Going into the election today we had NOTHING to loose. Starting tomorrow unless hopefully there's a miracle overnight we're at the same point we we're at yesterday.
Just try and look on this as a practice run for 2006.
We now know the mistakes that were made, so we have to fix them and charge ahead to victory next time.
The main thing on the agenda should be to make sure more Reps get out to the polls in 2006 even if we have to drag them there.

I think it is cheap enough to get these things on the ballots and if nothing else, wouldn't you all love to see the libs and unions spend a half billion dollars on defense? I sure love to see it and they can't keep that up.

I agree. We should avoid the temptation to beat ourselves up over this little battle, we clearly have the advantage.

The Democrats have demonstrated they have to spend like drunken sailors and lie like a rug to barely defeat some conservative propositions in the big "blue" state of California. 78 and 80 got smashed in that same blue state.

I don't even feel wounded here Norm.

Did we spend 200 million? Doesn't it feel good to know they spent 200 million on defense.

Let's do it again.

No way the opposition can keep spending on this scale without ending up like the Soviet Union. :-)

We were darn effective. Look at all the money we made them have to spend to keep things as they are for another year. :-)

They're going down.
I'm pumped, who knew we could force them to have to spend a part of a billion? Great stuff, lets make them do it again.

don;t forget, the Gub proposes the budgets, and he asked and cajoled many on the R side of the aisle to go along so they would have more time to battle for the reform initiatives.

in retrospect, I wonder if that was a prudent move... not that I agreed with the last 2 years of budgeting regardless and how things shook out.

I think you're right. I'd think social conservatism is more close to "keep the government away from me" than what would be considered social liberalism.
