DETROIT (AP) — Voters gave Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick the second chance he asked for in a come-from-behind victory, although he said he recognized that his tough re-election bid sent many supporters fleeing.

The charismatic 35-year-old credited the support of those who remained loyal — religious leaders, campaign volunteers and family — as he gave thanks to God in an early morning speech Wednesday.

I wonder how this factors in in defeating Grandstander next year, not sure it is a good sign.

"Yesterday was a cluster-screw on every front, save Ohio...."

ATTENTION GOPers..... those of you who did not vote yesterday...shame on you all. To not cast your votes and let 'Rat influence drag this country down the toilet is pathetic... We will not take back this country if you don't at least vote on election day.

I posted this last night in reference to NJ, but I think it is even more applicable here.

The line "they're animals, so let them lose their souls" comes to mind at a moment like this.

If so, here's the article: Poll finds 33% of Detroiters want to leave

Great. More sprawl.

If they all come out to my area, I hope they don't bring Detroit politics out here and mess everything up.

Well 49% of Detroit voters cast ballots against the current corruption, so its quite likely that many of those who leave will come from that crowd.

They're still democrats. (Hendrix was a dem too, just more competent than Kwame)

ast areas of the city are reverting to wasteland and fields as the human population and business flees the corrupt democrat party.

Yeah, but it makes such a good backdrop for dystopic scifi flicks.

Being that anyone who lives in Detroit and HAS A JOB works for Mayor Kilpatrick, why should we be surprised?

See America's Ancient Ruins: Detroit

Seriously, can't the Feds come in and turn it into a National Historic Park? I would love to see River Rouge (out of the City Limits, I know) turned into a National Monument myself.

Early returns had shown Hendrix with a 12-point lead, in line with some pre-election polls.

That was before the Necro-American precincts reported in.

Sounds like you are a former listener of the Late Mark Scott.

For you non-Michiganders, The FBI is all over this election and the head election official was beaten and was in court (all over local Detroit TV).

By the looks of it, she may end up in the bigga-house.....

BY the way, the Reelected Mayor is in for a rough road, they are so broke receivership is an option with the state taking over.

The bad news is Gov. J. Grandholm would appoint a crony liberal lackee and status quo nothing would continue to be done.

Kwame helped get the ship sinking so maybe it's only fitting that he'll be running the ship when it soon goes under.

I live in Detroit. While I voted for Hendrix, I'm not that upset at Kwame's win. His personal issues aside, Detroit looks better than it ever has in my lifetime. Belle Isle has been immaculate for the past three years and I've never seen so much construction downtown. In the middle of an awful local economy, we have two office towers and two hotel projects going on. (Not including the casinos.) Almost every abandoned building downtown has been rehabbed, being rehabbed or will be in the next two years. The city issued over 1000 new house permits this year. They'll issue 1000 more next year and the year after that. A lot of that was the fruit of Archer's labor, of course. But Kwame willed the Riverfront Conservancy to action and raised almost $100 million in private donations to reclaim the riverfront.

I don't want to sound pro-Kwame because the man really is a creep. But by and large he got things done amid a terrible local economy and a half-wit city counsel.
