Congresswoman: Three Al Qaeda Caught in U.S. After Crossing Border with Mexico
Wednesday, November 9, 2005 | Kristinn

Posted on 11/09/2005 4:49:04 PM PST by kristinn

Rep. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) let slip a bombshell disclosure at a news conference today to announce a bill targeting states that allow illegal aliens to get drivers licenses.

During the Q&A with reporters, Myrick gave as a reason for proposing the bill the recent capture of three al Qaeda terrorists at the U.S.-Mexico border.

A check of Google News turned up no references to this incident, yet Myrick stated this was a 'given fact.'

No reporter asked her about this revelation, but it was noted at the end of a Charlotte Observer article by Tim Funk.

Two Representatives from North Carolina, Virginia Foxx (R) and Patrick McHenry (R) stood with Myrick at the press conference. Neither commented on her matter of fact statement.

Rep. Myrick's remarks can be heard online at her Congressional Website here. the statement is made at about 8:45 into the press conference.

A call placed to Myrick's office in D.C. was not answered as the office is closed for the evening.

Transcript:

"Our main concern is, who's in our state? I mean this is a critical issue today. I mean they just arrested down on the border, what a couple of weeks ago, three al Qaeda members who came across from Mexico into the United States. I mean that's a given fact. They were holding them in the jail down there."

It's been 4 years since 9/11. There's no change at the borders....they doors are open.

He and all the other elected officials have done crap about the borders.

Good point, Mike, and I suspect most AQ operatives already here came in legally.

OTOH...that Mohammed woman who was arrested in McAllen Texas walked across the Rio Grande carrying $8,000 cash and an altered South African passport.

The fact is, they're coming in any way they think they can. Chances are pretty good she was on a watch list that prevented her from coming in on a visa.

yeah...

like I said the border way is certainly possible, but it involves more complications than other ways do.

BOTH need reform. Some of it is simply not adjusting the laws and regs to the times, some of it is pure slovenly government and part of it is, well I don't know what it is, dereliction comes to mind.

In the interviews of "experts" in the security field on Fox today regarding the danger of an attack here, a couple of them opined that the hard part would be getting into the country, but we have many soft targets after that. I almost fell off the sofa to hear any so-called "expert" say that it would be hard to get into the country when caravans of illegals enter over the Mexican border day and night. We are doomed.

The question is whether Myrick knows what she's talking about. There's no IQ or competency test required before becoming a congressman, and I don't believe I'm familiar with her.

I enjoyed reading about the Grannie Brigade, too; you're saying there was such a group a year ago? I thought they were brand new.....or this is another group of ladies?

Things that make you go hmmmmm ...

And let's go back to August 2004. Remember this?: Officials in Indiana and Washington, D.C., said they were dumbfounded by a statement U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris made about a terrorist plot to blow up a power grid in Indiana. (Maybe she was right after all.)

I don't think you have to choose between one source of danger or the other. Sure, some terrorists are already in place, living and working in various parts of our country. Others have come in from Canada, with Seattle and Detroit as probably the major entry points. Others are coming in from Mexico.

This is partly a Border Patrol problem, partly a Homeland Security problem, but we shouldn't let our guard down with either. Yet we surely are.

We also need to watch out for prison conversions and for radical mosques and madrassahs that seek to make youthful converts to jihad.

Of course, NC is the state known for easy liscenses for illegals.

Actually I am a mexican and my green card expired 20 years ago. I make $2 million US per year tax free and send it home to pay for family and friends to buy new hiking shoes....

Oh and I also get food stamps and medicaid. for life.

So by your thoughts, Osama Bin Laden attacked America and killed thousands of people....because the US - Mexico border is - what - unpatrolled?

You people have lost sight.

Is it your opinion that because there are terror cells already in the U.S., and other ways for terrorists to get into this country, we need not worry about the border? Sort of a "who cares if a few get across the border when we already have some here anyhow" kind of mindset?

I respect your opinion, but I strongly disagree with your perspective on the matter.

Total agreement with you. I just think people who say Al Queada are coming to America because of "open borders" are not seeing it like you (or I) do. Their goal is to kill Americans, not to test the boundaries.

Why send your operatives in the hard way when the easy way is just as wide open?

Do you really believe that operatives (terrorists) who would come across the border would be doing it the "hard way"? I do believe there are thousands and thousands of illegal aliens who have proved that theory to be incorrect. :)

This one is good. Right from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

Bout time Republicans start talking and not waiting for approval from democrats.

That is not my perspective nor is it what I wrote. You're putting words in my mouth. Only folks who are going to blame "open borders" for problems would do that. Read it again this time try to focus on the fact that AL QUEADA WAS NABBED. Who cares where it happened; the topic is they were caught.

"Hey Vern, mah dog has fleas. Whaddya think about that?"
"Gosh Vern, I dunno but I know it's the fault of that dagnabbed RedBloodedAmerican and his beaner-loving President"

I think that is more into an operational question....

First you would have to fly an operative into a city somewhere North or South of here. Get them through customs there, and hope they can trek up to the point of attack relatively quickly and safely (at least for their mission) or you could just drop $1800 for a Business Class ticket from the ME to Dulles and get them there in 48 hours....

You are aware, aren't you, that the nineteen hijackers who murdered 3,000 innocent Americans were here legally.

Although that is true, do you honestly believe that just because the 9/11 terrorists were here legally means that ALL future terrorists will be here legally? Is there now some written rule that terrorists will now abide by because the first set did it a certain way? Or do you think it is possible that terrorists may choose to do it differently next time?
