Skip to comments.Congresswoman: Three Al Qaeda Caught in U.S. After Crossing Border with Mexico
Posted on 11/09/2005 4:49:04 PM PST by kristinn
Rep. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) let slip a bombshell disclosure at a news conference today to announce a bill targeting states that allow illegal aliens to get drivers licenses.
During the Q&A with reporters, Myrick gave as a reason for proposing the bill the recent capture of three al Qaeda terrorists at the U.S.-Mexico border.
A check of Google News turned up no references to this incident, yet Myrick stated this was a 'given fact.'
No reporter asked her about this revelation, but it was noted at the end of a Charlotte Observer article by Tim Funk.
Two Representatives from North Carolina, Virginia Foxx (R) and Patrick McHenry (R) stood with Myrick at the press conference. Neither commented on her matter of fact statement.
Rep. Myrick's remarks can be heard online at her Congressional Website here. the statement is made at about 8:45 into the press conference.
A call placed to Myrick's office in D.C. was not answered as the office is closed for the evening.
"Our main concern is, who's in our state? I mean this is a critical issue today. I mean they just arrested down on the border, what a couple of weeks ago, three al Qaeda members who came across from Mexico into the United States. I mean that's a given fact. They were holding them in the jail down there."
Of course, NC is the state known for easy liscenses for illegals.
Actually I am a mexican and my green card expired 20 years ago. I make $2 million US per year tax free and send it home to pay for family and friends to buy new hiking shoes....
Oh and I also get food stamps and medicaid. for life.
So by your thoughts, Osama Bin Laden attacked America and killed thousands of people....because the US - Mexico border is - what - unpatrolled?
You people have lost sight.
Is it your opinion that because there are terror cells already in the U.S., and other ways for terrorists to get into this country, we need not worry about the border? Sort of a "who cares if a few get across the border when we already have some here anyhow" kind of mindset?
I respect your opinion, but I strongly disagree with your perspective on the matter.
Total agreement with you. I just think people who say Al Queada are coming to America because of "open borders" are not seeing it like you (or I) do. Their goal is to kill Americans, not to test the boundaries.
Do you really believe that operatives (terrorists) who would come across the border would be doing it the "hard way"? I do believe there are thousands and thousands of illegal aliens who have proved that theory to be incorrect. :)
This one is good. Right from the horse's mouth, so to speak.
Bout time Republicans start talking and not waiting for approval from democrats.
That is not my perspective nor is it what I wrote. You're putting words in my mouth. Only folks who are going to blame "open borders" for problems would do that. Read it again this time try to focus on the fact that AL QUEADA WAS NABBED. Who cares where it happened; the topic is they were caught.
"Hey Vern, mah dog has fleas. Whaddya think about that?"
"Gosh Vern, I dunno but I know it's the fault of that dagnabbed RedBloodedAmerican and his beaner-loving President"
I think that is more into an operational question....
First you would have to fly an operative into a city somewhere North or South of here. Get them through customs there, and hope they can trek up to the point of attack relatively quickly and safely (at least for their mission) or you could just drop $1800 for a Business Class ticket from the ME to Dulles and get them there in 48 hours....
Although that is true, do you honestly believe that just because the 9/11 terrorists were here legally means that ALL future terrorists will be here legally? Is there now some written rule that terrorists will now abide by because the first set did it a certain way? Or do you think it is possible that terrorists may choose to do it differently next time?
(squint) Freedom......(incongruous smile) Freedom.....we're winning! (squint)
I haven't ever read a post that said AQ is coming to America BECAUSE the borders are open; I have read about logical concerns that America is leaving itself more vulnerable, to AQ and other criminal elements, i.e., millions of illegal aliens, because the borders are OPEN.
Where there's smoke there's fire!
If you were a terrorist wanting to spend time and money without getting caught or drawing attention, you wouldn't come across the Mexican line.
If you wanted to steal millions from a company and have a good chance at getting away with it, would you walk in and hold them up at gunpoint or would you get a job as an accountant and start embezzling funds, transferring invisible money into an off shore account?
Don't answer that. I think I know. You're no accountant.
Thank you much for the ping...
I wonder why this wasn't in the news? < /sarcasm >
19 of 19 of 9/11 hijackers were here before 9/11. Please don't feign ignorance. I would like to think that we can progress. Visas and airports are being diligently watched. I would go thru the area that isn't.
I also drive a low rider.
Not really that hugh.
Oh, yeah, I forgot: deport all the known and verified Reconquistadores and their fellow-travelers. After that, we can deport all the other illegals.
Subversives and traitors first, other lawbreakers next.
We NEED to Protest!
No, separate issue...this congressman mentioned terrorists crossing the border into Texas.
Please add me to the Ping
You mean the place where MILLIONS OF ILLEGALS come through?
North Carolina is a mini version of France. Islamofacist beachhead.
heehee. Yes I can see it; the hijackers had pilot identities on them. Can you see an American Airlines 757 captain walking thru the desert? "Honest Officer, I am late for my plane!"
In reading this thread I must have missed the post where someone said that Al Queda is coming to America because of open borders. I know that's sure not what I am saying. Everyone knows why Al Queda wants to attack us.
The crux of this issue is that we know there are terrorists who want to successfully attack us again. We know the different options they have for getting into the U.S. We need to secure ALL of those "options", not just a few of them.
I know I'm not the only one who can see that this is such a simple case of "commonsense", that it's downright amazing that anyone would even argue against it. wow
ohhhh....gotcha...thought you were referring to the grannies....if you remember about/find that other article at some point...I'd appreciate a ping.
Of course, no TSA employee is here illegally, either ;)
Some of live near the borders and have to deal with the "rabouillet" from points south, daily.
A brother of a RINO Congressman has found diaries written in farsi and arabic along with the rest of the trash in a pasture in southern arizona.
Bush has done more, DHS has policies which protect the illegals.
DHS only shows concern when it's not Mexicans.
The Bush administration and possibly President Bush himself do not have the best interests of middle class americans on this issue and has repeatedly made statements negating concern about illegal migrants.
The data is here, just look at the aliens list, read and learn what's really going on before you dis someone who disagrees with you, or at least give a rational argument without the ad-hominems.
Good thing were catching 100% of these guys at the border.
In case you didnt forget the sarcasm tag, let me point out a couple things. A small percent are caught at the border. Shipped out? They dont ship out OTMs..(other than Mexicans) They release them! Hundreds of thousands of them.
Visas? LOL! We have 3.6 million visa overstays that the government will acknowledge. They have no idea where they are. This administration had 51 agents assigned to find those MILLIONS. Its not happening.
This isnt the first instance of terrorists found operating near the border. Rumsfeld has warned about it, as have many others. Its all on Free Republic. Amazing what one can learn. If you can't find the links, let me know.
It is definitely not that hard to cross the border... Too many achieve their goal to say otherwise.
As far as Al Qaeda using the borders - my guess is that these people are the "expendable" type of operatives. IMHO we have to start breaking up the cells of operatives who have been here legally for years - some of whom are now citizens - if we want to end the threat from Al Qaeda.
I will admit that closing the border might at least help in regards to making it harder for terrorists - and other illegal immigrants - to take advantage of the US.
"North Carolina is a mini version of France. Islamofacist beachhead"
I don't think so, why do you say this.
feh. If you think I am "arguing against" securing borders, well, there you go again. See ya, no time for you.
If you are going to argue, first learn and then debate. Obviously you are not up to speed and haven't done your homework.
Nope, they don't release them. The people who I know don't.
Three? It doesn't count unless it's a stockpile of terrorists.
Bound to happen sooner or later. Wonder how many others have previously slithered in here, without detection, and are now laying low in the mosques.
"It it was noted at the end of a Charlotte Observer article by Tim Funk."
End of his career.
Personal experience. Lots of Palestinians, etc got student visas in the 1990's. Never graduated and never left the country.
Good find... bookmarking for future reference...
Did this perhaps happen about the same time that our Homeland Security Director decided that we needed to stop illegal immigration? Could the two events be related?
First of all, I was very polite in responding to you and I told you I respected your opinion, but that I disagreed with it. I also did not "put words in your mouth". I asked two questions.
I agree that we should all be thankful if in fact three Al Qaeda terrorists were caught crossing the border. That does not negate the fact, therefore, that terrorists decided to enter the U.S. through the pourous border with Mexico. Kudos for them! They know what WE know. That there is a great, gaping hole in our national security. And just because we caught three of them, does not mean we will catch them all.
Now, you can respond to me if you so choose but I will not get into a flame war over this issue. I will take the sarcastic parts of your post to me graciously this time, but I won't respond if you do not want to discuss the issue in a more dignified fashion. :)
Hundreds were injured and 167 men, women and children died when a truck loaded with improvised explosives were detonated.
Just wondering if AQ needs to have MORE bombs than McVeigh to be able to kill as many or more? /sarc
