On that point, why in the world would the Army want to recruit in San Francisco? :-))

For special forces. You know, the kind of supersoldiers that can penetrate an enemy's rear lines.

Oh, I think Fleet Week's days are numbered. They don't want the presence in the city, remember?

I agree, after the refusal to allow the USS Iowa to retire at its WWII homeport of SF, because of the War in Iraq, I believe we may have only one or two more Fleet Weeks. It would be nice to see the Blue Angels strafing the city, doing practice bombing runs. Of course we all know that SF will never be a terrorist target..they never attack their allies, right France?

That will be painful for the enemy. It will be declared Torture by the US Senate. McPain will sponsor an amendment to every bill banning such torture. :-)

As I understand, the Marines already closed their Recruiting Office on Davis Street in SF.

When Fleet Week leaves, and the money goes away, let's see how quickly the recruiters come back.

Blue Angels doing practice bombing runs...LOL You are killing me.

an excerpt:
Middle class filling up military, study says

By Rowan Scarborough
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
November 8, 2005

Middle-class youths, not the poor, are providing the bulk of wartime recruits to the armed forces, according to a new study by a conservative think tank.
The Heritage Foundation research paper found that a higher percentage of middle-class and upper-middle-class families have been providing enlistees for the war on Islamic militants since the September 11 attacks on the United States.
Researchers matched the ZIP codes of recruits over the past five years with federal government estimates of household incomes in those neighborhoods. Contrary to complaints from some liberal lawmakers and pundits, the data show that the poor are not shouldering the bulk of the military's need for new soldiers, airmen, sailors and Marines.
The poorest neighborhoods provided 18 percent of recruits in prewar 1999 and 14.6 percent in 2003. By contrast, areas where household incomes ranged from $30,000 to $200,000 provided more than 85 percent.
"We found that recruits tend to come from middle-class areas, with disproportionately fewer from low-income areas," said the report, prepared by Tim Kane, an Air Force Academy graduate and economics scholar. "Overall, the income distribution of military enlistees is more similar to than different from the income distribution of the general population."

What never ceases to amaze me is that young men and women are willing to die for this country, despite the fact that it includes places like SF.

Think of it this way, the recruiters could be offering young straight men and women the chance of getting out of such a hellhole.

The city of San Francisco is a regular liberal utopia. It's got the loudest gays, the most ornery bums, and the hairiest women in the west. Is it any surprise how they voted? They're a lost cause.

The Recruiters are offering just that, but with less ways to notify the youth of what the option entails, they will be stuck there. Sometimes literally stuck... Bad enough it is the 13th largest city in America, and only has one recruiting office, and the marines have left the area.

Maybe we can declare them persona non grata and deport them...

I don't understand what the rationale is behind such a ban. What is its basis?

They reject anything remotely "American" - even if it makes good practical sense.

If you told the liberals in SF that breathing air was a patriotic American thing to do, they would find a way to suffocate themselves to death. (Wouldn't that be nice...)

Actually, it appears France has decided to try deporting the Rioters.. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1519147/posts ..Imagine the ACLU raising up if we tried to deport the city of SF...

Now hold on, everyone. No one should be upset or agitated over this ban on the Military Recruiters. After all, we are a Democratic Republic and a free and open election was held and the people have spoke. That free voice is necessary to our survival as a Democratic Republic.

Since the people have spoken loud and clear, our Military is honor bound to abide by the people's wishes and we are honor bound to support and uphold them too.

Therefore, effective immediately, all branches of our Armed Forces should declare the city of San Francisco as OFF LIMITS to any and all US Military personnel. Any ships tied up in San Francisco Bay should be moved elsewhere as should any Active Duty Military within the City. No Fleet Week either as this would be a recruiting tool.

Give the People's Republic of San Franciso what they desire, a Military Free zone. Let them fend for themselves, as they are so noted for.

Now if every FREEPer contacted their congressional representative, we could make that happen. Not one Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine would have a problem with it.

Fascinating:

Instead, Proposition I encourages city officials and university administrators to exclude recruiters and create scholarships and training programs that would reduce the military's appeal to young adults.

Some years back the lib-Dems in the SF Bay Area opened their own new "colleges". One's south SF, another is in Santa Rosa. Exclusively "liberal" schools, generally, entered into via scholarships. I've been wondering for quite some time -- all those liberal "ed" inits, locally and statewide, and where the money is being funneled to.

On another topic.. lol...Read what liberal students say are the best colleges for liberals.

The marines closed their Davis Street recruiting office BEFORE this "shadegrown" SF Initiative? The anti-gun "shadegrown" init was also very interesting.
